Inherent Rate: Less than 20 Ventricular beats per minute. ACLS algorithm per Asystole protocols must be initiated immediately.
INTERVENTIONS: based on AHA 2016 ACLS Guidelines.
- Perform high-quality CPR
- Start IV/IO, draw/send labs
- Give Epinephrine 1 mg (1:10,00 solution) IV/IO followed by a 10-20 mL NS/LR flush, repeat every 3-5 minutes

It's incredible to see that even we're close to death, the heart continues trying to pump blood into our body, trying to sustain it, until the last breathing...

They are either on the very verge of dying or are dead. It's pretty much a flat line, but the heart is eternally struggling for life.
They are on the very verge of death, someone with this heartbeat are taking its last beats
The fact that the heart still continues to try to beat when you have no hope of living just shows how loyal it is.
nah its called "still having electrotyles in your blood"
An agonal rhythm means the heart is not pumping at all. Its a fish out of water that has stopped flopping around.
Just so you know. Fine VF is the death warning, Agonal is the beginning of the heart's flatline, and Asystole is when the heart fails and then flatlines(dies).
Atonal is rarely seen after fine vf during cardiac arrest

Agonal can be treated if the right steps are done. I asked a doctor from Harrison, KY and they stabilized a patient that was in Agonal.
Yes, it is possible, although chances are very low.
you need to have a shitton of luck, its like a 5% chance
maybe, the rate of success is low, when the body is ready to die... it dies
the prognosis is really bad, about on par with asystole
@@dragonfireproductions790 much more like 0,5% considering the huge amount of the heart´s cells that aren´t working anymore when this rhythm occurs...
I have also heard of this as being Ventricular Bradycardia. Slow heart rate and wide QRS with no P waves means ventricular rhythm. This is commonly seen after V fib but so is NSR. V tach is another commonly seen rhythm after V fib is treated or is paroxysmal(rare for V fib to be paroxysmal. Usually if it is paroxysmal, it is V tach or A fib). I wouldn't be surprised if a person dying of old age had Agonal or Ventricular Bradycardia in those last few moments when they are still breathing but are unconscious.
Caters Carrots Typically, patients will start out in Pulseless VT, then progress to Coarse VF, then to Fine VF, then to Asystole. You don't see agonal very often, but I've seen instances of patients being defibrillated in VF and then going to Agonal after the shock. As for the elders being in Agonal, I could understand that.
Caters Carrots This is a transition rhythm between fine VF and Asystole and that yea,Dying persons often get into Agonal prior to death as it is infact a rhythm representing a dying heart

The heart is struggling, to keep the brain alive until the last breaths....

A person experiencing agonal rhythm is no longer conscious, but reflexes in the brainstem are trying to keep them alive. Unfortunately, once a person's heart is in an agonal rhythm, *death is imminent*
This music is so eerie, especially if you think about what is going on inside the heart when this happens.
The heart that was been with you though all those great moments in your life, beating away with a lovely sinus rhythm has sadly had it's last beat and now replaced with nothing but the occasional wide and unrecognisably bizarre QRS complex as the heart cells die it tries and tries weakly but fails leaving nothing but a flatline.

This is a scary heart beat because since CPR or any resuscitation methods didn’t save the patient, the patient will soon die and then a-systole will occur.
The heart is dying, the atria have given up, the last P wave is in the past now, a cell deep in the suffocating ventricles fires, struggling desperately holding on to a glimmer of distant hope of just one more heartbeat, it's whole world is disappearing around it as the neighbouring cells it once spent many happy memories of that strong QRS complex are dying off until it too joins them inside the heart in the sky.
You make this look so poetic, so dramatic. You'd do a good writer.
Damn, you would make a pretty good writer.
This almost made me cry.
_Almost._
This video is a simulation of agonal episodes yet you just made me emotionally live this
you made some absurd mixture of all the adjectives and adverbs, thinking it would look 'kewl', but messed up with the incorrect usage of it's and its.
I think agonal is worse than asystole. If we consider that in asystole, if recent, the big majority of heart cells are still alive.
But agonal is specifically caused by the death of almost every cell on the heart.
There is, however, asystole that comes after agonal, and if it's that the case, my above statement is invalid.
PostData: I'm not saying you can't stabilize an agonal patient, but the prognosis is extremely poor.
Agonal is the last semblance of electrical activity of the heart prior to death. It represents a dying heart and has been seen on even people dying from old age.
velaachlorine Agonal is considered as Asystole due to its same lethal effects,Its prognosis count is included in Asystole as well,But majority of cases of revival seen are of Asystole. So your hypothesis is justified.
velaachlorine In Agonal,If the heart cells are dead it cannot contract anymore or transfer electrical signals. But the main point is its not only the last electrical activity of the heart prior to death but also the transition stage beteween VF and Asystole/death
Yeah recent asystole is more treatable with adrenaline than agonal because it’s more cells are alive adrenaline will force blood into the heart restarting it
I'm not a doctor, but I think that the asystole that comes after agonal rhythm is way less treatable than that that occurs after v fib (correct me if I'm wrong). Because in v fib asystole most cells are alive and can be restarted. But after agonal rhythm asystole most of the cells are dead so restarting the heart is much harder. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Respect bro died for us
🤨
Is this what happens right before a heart stops completely?
Well, this usually happens from old age where a majority of the heart cells and dead and few alive cells vibrating to get the blood flowing. Asystole can happen from a cardiac arrest or a myocardial infarction, which is also different because most of the cells are still alive.
@@n0b0pygamer38 So since in this case most of the cells would be dead, a heart transplant would be a good treatment?
@@FutureAIDev2015 Well in this case, a transplant would take too much time, since all the organs are barley getting an oxygen, so all the organs would be dead by the time it was done.
@@FutureAIDev2015 theoretically that would be the ideal treatment if it could be done immediately, but usually this is combined with multiple organ failure indicative of imminent death, either due to body old age, or heart has deteriorated to a point that it hasn't been pumping blood efficiently for quite a while and other organs have failed
You start feeling pain in your chest. Minutes pass with the doctors trying to correct the situation, but to no avail. The Grim Reaper walks in the room, it gets very cold. The heart, with only few alive cells, desperately shaking, clinging onto life by a hair's width, tries to get the heart to beat normally, with the other organs, starved of oxygen, begging and pleading for the heart to restart, but it's too late. The last P waves and T waves are in the past now. The feeling of despondence fills the room as your heart rate is flashing in and out of an actual reading. You see a light, and and afterlife. Minutes pass as the medical team try to revert your heart back to normal, but to no avail. The Grim Reaper plunges his scythe into your chest. The last QRS complex, has completely flattened. The lovely, neat, and organized sinus wave your heart beats in, has just went in shambles. The doctor, trying to pull your soul back into its body, desperately does chest compressions, but, it's too late. Not only are you asystolic, you are now officially declared dead. With your roaming soul in limbo, you decide to go to purgatory, where you turn in a document of your entire life, featuring every single virtue, and every single sin. You barely pass with 35 virtues and 34 sins committed, totalling to 69. Nice. You are now in heaven. It is peaceful here. With bright scenery and shiny buildings, your story ends here.

I don't think is an agonal. The morphology and the high rate makes me think it's a slower version of idioventricular rythm. More info:
Agonal rhythms are dysrhythmias, most recognized as the last ordered semblance of heart activity before asystole. Agonal, ventricular in origin, is caused by weak cardiac contractions in a person's last moments before completely shutting down.

Pulseless V-Tach.

Can you imediantly fix this agonal by fast injection of atropin or suprarenin? Or do you have to start cpr? (I hope you do understand, my English is not very well ;-)
The treatment should be injecting adrenaline (epinephrine) and starting immediate CPR, but the chances of recovering are extremely low. I'm not a native English speaker either. ;)

Agonal heart rhythm is considered a form of Asystole (aka a flatline), Agonal is a treatable rhythm, but the chances of these efforts being successful are EXTREMELY low. This is pretty much the heart’s last signals of life before true death arrives. At this point, a vast majority of the heart cells are dead or are dying out, while the heart cells that are still remaining are trying to keep the heart beating until they can’t anymore.
