  • Join me as I travel to the Navajo Nation Reservation in Arizona to train their PD. As a former Green Beret, I had to be proficient in the application of a combat handgun while deployed operationally throughout the world. I have seen and employed many different applications to enhance my speed and accuracy in a combat handgun situation. Here, I talk over the important combat handgun fundamentals of “Stance and Grip”. In this video, I explain how I have adapted the basic fundamentals of pistol marksmanship to enhance my combat shooting. Understand the mindset needed to be affective in combat. Understand how I have taken forms and teachings from martial arts and athletic sports to enhance my balance, power, footwork and reactive speeds.

I've been trying to figure out grip (I still am) but watching your videos on both rifle and pistol has been helping me improve my stance, grip, and point of aim. I'm still struggling with grip but it's a work in progress.. I just hear you when it flips telling me to slow down and grip the gun. Thank you for your service Tum, both while you were in and what have done for your country after.

A true educator. I always learn from Master Lam. Love the grip, stance and relax draw tutorials. We've all been trained differently for so many years. Why? Who wrote that book? Here is a warrior who has put these things to the test and KNOWS what works and what doesn't. The LE community should really re-evaluate the way we qualify and train our people. Just because that's always the way it was done doesn't mean it should remain so. God bless, stay safe.

Gah I love this. Just the simple articulation of stance alone. Paraphrase: “If you’re crouched down, you’re having to stabilize everything else as well as grip.” Makes too much sense. The pinky grip as well. I gripped my handgun while he was running through that and realized I already didn’t grip with my pinky. Never even noticed. That’s the absolute difference between a professional and a good teacher. The ability not only to do the thing but to break it down with logic/reason in a way that makes sense to those learning.
