A few notes!!
- XSOverlay is great, but its performance stats are inaccurate, especially CPU stats. This is due to a change in Windows APIs that I don't think Xiexe has accounted for yet. Unsure if OVRDrop has fixed this. On the other hand, FPSVR is _exceptionally_ accurate. It's great for seeing if you're CPU bound or GPU bound in a quick glance.
- Our "jitter smoothing" is actually an unintended benefit from networked IK. It gets lerped out! It's very trivial but OVR Smooth Tracking _technically_ will reduce the quality of your tracking for remote users, but probably not by enough to matter.
- TurnSignal is great, but both FPSVR and OVRAS include these features too! TurnSignal has a few more features and customizations though.
- The true glasses hack is to swap to contacts just for VR. It only took me like 3 months to learn how to do contacts properly! woo!!!!
Incredibly additive comment, thanks Tupper! ✨
So, it's not fixed in OVR Toolkit yet, but you're correct it's related to a Windows API change! Technically, the 'wrong' value is actually accurate, it's just measuring differently. (Look up what actually changed, it's a weird problem they tried to fix related to hyperthreading if I recall)
I've been speaking with the fpsVR dev and they've been assisting me in fixing the issue, it's just very low priority as OVR Toolkit has integration for fpsVR so I usually recommend people use that for more advanced performance stats. No point in my re-inventing the wheel when fpsVR is already the god-tier solution and so cheap, I'd rather support them. :)
Was gonna say the same thing about the tangled thing. OVRas has it too, I have found that sometimes it does get confused and you have to zero the rotations though. Then again it's been a second since I hopped on VR maybe they fixed it.
Fpsvr also has cable untangling. It's my go-to for untangling, performance stats, and such.
wdym true glasses hack
Thanks for the shoutout PHIA!
It means so much to me that people actually use OVR Toolkit, nevermind them seeing it as a 'must have'!
I'll keep up the work on ensuring bugs are ironed out. :)
You’re a hero for the community!
I literally bought it for my boyfriend because I said he needed it 😂
Not here to start something but I did abandon it for XSoverlay, due to the seemingly high performance impact and many bugs when using it
Dude, OVR Toolkit is night and day for VR, especially with full body tracking. Thanks for making it!
@@Hunter248GM This was the case back in the day, but today OVR Toolkit is just as stable and performant as similar software. :)
There's just a lot of bad vibes from ex-users who remember how it used to be, OVR Toolkit was a mess in the past and it's something I'll never try to deny. It improved a lot within 2022 and 2023.
play-space drag is SO useful in and for almost EVERY VR Application and Game! 🌟
OVR Advanced settings has a compas you can place on the ground in the center of your playspace, creating a visual that is always there instead of rug + fan. I still encourage the fan those, VR is hot.
The rug gives a *tactile* indicator of where you are, so it doesn't rely on sight, like a visual compass would.
This different sensory input is helpful when your sight is already occupied by something else, for example aiming down-sights in a FPS.
@@Adam-zt4cn the compass has to render over the game.
@@Creator-- I think the point was the player is looking around at the game and might not be thinking to look down all the time. tactile queues would come as a reminder without the player having to remember to do something
Lucky for me, I never not have a fan on in my room. I cannot stand silence and need the motor sound.
i have a tip similar to the rug and fan trick incase u don't have either of those, in steam vr and oculus theres a feature to always show a outline of your play space on the ground. something i do is i make my play space have a indicator of where is forward (like a divit or a notch in the outline of the space if that makes sense) and just use that. its not to intrusive and u tend to just rely on it like second nature. on oculus theres also the "glance" option so that it will only show the overlay if you look down at it. just thought this could be helpful, happy playin!
I've done someithign very similiar, whenever i get close to my play space "border", it shows up and i can tell from the shape of it, where i am and what way i am facing. i simple have to get one fo my controllers close to it, and it shows up. Really useful!
For people using SteamVR, another way to keep urself oriented in your room is to give ur play splace border a recognizable shape
I have a small desk in the corner of the room, and it's great because I account for that when making the play space so there's always a corner that has little square taken out of it! Could also be good to have like a little fan or something in the corner instead and use that!
ive honestly never thought about this but you could litteraly just put a traiangle to show which way you should be facing, smart idea
Playspace Drag is a HUGE accessibility tool. I'm really happy to learn of it as I would need to be seated when using VR.
that’s a lot of gadgets for sitting by a mirror all day
It took me like a year to discover all of these programs and tips on my own, thanks for condensing them into one place, especially Labs! I'm gonna be checking out those worlds and vetting them.
This is a fantastic compilation for someone new to VR
I hope one day we will get body tracking included with the basic headset. They can track full body using base stations.
Perscription lens are definitely a livesaver not only for comfort but so I don't put my glasses as risk when I'm being a goofball in VR. Thoughhhh having one lens shaped even slightly wrong causes me to have to keep it glued onto my headset or it would fall out whenever I looked straight up
One of these days I'm just gonna abandon lens altogether and get some laser eye done but until then.... I suffer
I just pay for expensive throw away contact lenses for this reason.
because my prescription changes so much buying lenses is not worth the cost for me
@@MonstehDinosawr I wanted contact lenses, but my astigmatism is so bad that I just have to buy prescription lenses unfortunately. @xeethevirtualexplorer8119 could get those that comes with magnets like mine, though mine is a random no brand one that actually does them for super cheap.
I've definitely broken frames wearing them under my HMD. Now I have lenses from VR Optician and they're great, highly recommend
I myself was looking for a program that does voices. Definitely gonna need that link. Thanks again, Phia. You're the best.
I can't wait to be able to try prescription lens. Having the headset with glasses is one of the reasons as to why I haven't played my vr headset recently.
Yep, they are great. You just get that temporary feeling, when reality is more blurry than virtual world.
Another way to keep yourself oriented in vr is to simply always have your floor chaperone lines on at all times and have a play space that has a unique shape (like one corner is slightly indented from the others. This has by far been the best help personally to keep me pointing the right way.
I do not recommend using joy cons for any bodypart. I use them myself and they are the most glitched thing ever when it comes to turning around or quick movement.
Been using Voicemod for the past 4 years! I love it
I've been using Standable this past week and it's genuinely really cool! It does have some issues for me personally (at least for the avatar I commonly use) where sitting and laying down are still pretty awkward and don't look right, but when it comes to standing, leaning, and turning, the movement is way more natural looking compared to VRChat's default stiff movement for half body users
It's still in development, but I'd say it's worth the $20 if you can't afford actual trackers yet
hey just wanted to say, this channel got me into vrchat almost a year ago and i slowly evolved from pc, to rift s, to index, to fbt. this world is perfect and it has helped me so much socially.
i have already discovered all the tips you showed in this video before tho lol. but great video either way.
Honestly- bless you Phia!! You're a lifesaver so far for learning about the ins and outs of VR!
6:45 My room already has a ceiling fan and I also use a rug for playing VR. They’re both great at keeping me in check of my playing space.
This is the first thing I am going to send to any of my friends that are starting to get into PC VR; it will save me a ton of time explaining what these tools are and their benefits!! 🥳
This is really helpful phia. I just got an index too so you couldnt have had better timing in my eyes.
When I had vr I prided myself on having every tool I needed. It’s been so long I’ve forgotten everything. Glad this exists
Another must-have in VRChat is friends :D
Is there a modpack for that?
I just always do what I enjoy doing. Eventually you meet people that enjoy the same stuff
Yes, but it requires that you already have the social_competence, EmotionalUnderstanding_v5.7 and TalkingSkillzTM addons preinstalled.

$19.99 monthly friend subscription add-on purchased separately!
@@Adam-zt4cn if you enjoy world hopping, I'd love to meet up 😀 doesn't require lots of talking. Sometimes I just worldhop on my own.
Awesome video once again, Phia! Really helped me realise a few things here and there, so cheers!! 💙💙
Heres a tip, you can create a bat file as a vrchat shortcut to run ovr, vrchat and anything else like amethyst (fbt) with one click
I had absolutely no idea that there was a way to make fbt smooth. my friend on VRChat was doing summer salts, hitting the cleanest dance moves, with the same setup as mine. and I was over on the side just watching in awe bc every time I jumped more than half a foot my trackers jiggled. Now I know how they did it.
I’m finally playing vr on pc but I never really figured out how other pc players can hover in the air and all of that, but now I know. Thanks and great work on the vid!
for the mat trick, im using the twisting disc thing that is used for waist exercise, also great for other shooter game like pavlov where i have to turn around constantly, while keeping myself in the same spot
Fan and mat trick are so helpful, I use my mat all the time and if you get one that is cushioned it will help with standing fatigue I find.
This is really helpful! Thanks. Kinda reminds me about how little features valve have added to SteamVR over the years.
Even as a non VRChat player, majority of the "must-haves" listed here are very helpful. Thanks!
Two more paychecks and I'll finally be in the reality of this show. I'm definitely a fan never clicked on a video so fast you're doing RN Jesus work!!
1:48 I've been jamming to these mixes for the past few days! Hell yeah, great music taste!
Great vid! I've been a frequent VR user for years and still learned from this vid!
I actually just recent learned the whole rug+fan thing is really effective recently, and on accident too! lol
Another banger from Phia. She just don’t MISS
That was a fun video, so many great programs and life-hacks to have, i will definitely use some of these in the future. THANK YOU!
OVR Advanced Settings already has a feature like Turn Signal ;)
Thanks for the vid! ^_^ I have lots of these already, but I'll send it to my friends who are new to VRC!
for people that don't know OVR Advanced Settings also includes a build in turn signal that works extremely well.
Thank you very much for the video and the useful tips! I'm using some of this stuff too. Especially the Smooth Tracking is a must have for my taste!
So often I had the situation when I "aimed" at something, my arm was shaking and every tiny bit was seen in the virtual controller movement. I wished for a kind of smoothing for it. A couple of months ago someone told me about the smooth tracking and a kind of dream came true for me.
I learned about OVR and playspace dragging through this video. At last, I know how other people are able to adjust their avatar's height with their hands, and I can do it myself as long as I launch VRC through Steam VR.
The green screen end card with the new avatar looks so slick!
Another amazing vid- tysm phia!!
Alright, that fan idea is a pretty low tech solution, but seems effective. I'll keep that idea in my back pocket.
Thanks a bunch for the video, Standable sounds pretty amazing
Thanks that is very helpful I always wondered how people fly with their hands
Omg thank you the fpsvr helps a lot I didn’t know they had all of this!
There is a special build of OVR Space Calibrator by bdunderscore for hybrid FBT users (Quest FBT) that improves the QOL significantly
The special build has the ability to do "continous calibration", which basically _reduces_ the time needed to calibrate the playspace. Instead of doing figure-8 gestures with a controller and a Vive tracker, it instead uses the Vive tracker attached to the HMD to readjust the tracker positions to more closely match up with thw Quest 2's guardian.
Can not recommend this enough. Continuous calibration is so convenient as a "set and forget" way to do FBT on quest.
What’s it called and where can I get it
You should definitely do a setup tour. & that view is crazy good with the windows
This was cool and very helpful
Thanks a lot for this video! Gonna use this as a reference after I got a vr headset!~
Great video! Thanks for sharing.
This is a really good informative video. I actually already have most of these except the OVR smooth tracking. I might actually need to give that a try as I do sometimes record VRChat gameplay and it does look pretty shaky. Thx for the hard work :D
Very good editing ad well :)
thx for the info
first time seeing your new avatar - huge upgrade!
As a beginner user, this is great. Thanks so much.
Im planning on getting myself a quest 2 and get into VR cause I have seen a lot of it recently, and Im currently saving up for it! But OMG your videos are very helpful since I didnt really knew much about the inside world of VR and I have watched a bunch of your vids cause they're so helpful.
(Sorry if my english isnt very understandable or right but Im trying my best lol)
just bought my first oculus (meta quest 2) and this is gonna help so much
Good list of 3rd party software to enhance my VR experience. Thanks!
Saving this video. I've had VR before, don't have it now (long story). Most of these I didn't know about
Awesome video! Such great information, thank you for this
Thank you for the standable recommendation! I dont have money for trackers right now and this is a great substitute!
Thanks for these recommendations!
Its been a while since i saw your vids and OMG YOUR MODEL IS SO GOOD
Hey Phia thanks for teaching me everything. I ordered slime last month now I'm just patiently waiting for them to get to croudsupply. I think I'll end up being in the second half of batch cuz I ordered so recently but I'm really excited. You and thrill are like our vr professors and this is alot of people favorite class
awesome thanks - OVR Advanced and Standable body tracker are both now in my steam library - their so good and handy to have
Good video, using like half of those and they really are essentials :) I'm sure someone has already mention this in the comments already - if you don't want tons of different apps, the OVR advanced setting also has a counter that you can put on the ground to set the middle of your play space as well as count how many times you turned to which way for easier untangling .. really helpful for dancers that wanna spin around ;)
This is awesome thank u-
I love the model and lip syncing and the video is very educational ☺️👌 nice job
This is so helpful! Thank you!
i'm new to vr and this helps sop much, i am at the moment on day 4 of even owning a VR headset so these things help as i wihtout the community would not figure it out
AMAZING video was really helpful
stops watching this channel for months comes back to a thousand times better looking avatar than i last saw and the content feels better somehow? glad i clicked
I like the rug trick better than fan cause when I played Phasmophobia, that fan scared the crap out of me several times. Also made that log cabin map spooky as hell.
Lovely, just what I was looking for
The fan and mat trick has been such a lifesaver
Stop Sign VR.
I've used it for months to mark out where my couch is in my playspace, so I always know where it is.
OMG I haven't seen your content for a while but love the new model!
OVR Advanced settings really is a great add-on for SteamVR, I've hardly gone a second without it ;D
I'd also love to check out these other add-ons myself eventually (come on, Linux support / alternatives when?)
also also, I had no idea lenses for VR were even a thing until now... maybe I can soon stop having to cram my glasses in my headset and get smudges all over em
god bless you darling, just got my quest yesterday
Have VR prescription lenses, and yes, can confirm, those are freaking awesome. I use HonsVR myself. Turnsignal is also handy even if you're wireless, since you can orient without a mat at that point.
Not that I've used VR at all in a few months. Quest2's battery took a shit on top of having little interest at all in it for awhile.
gonna be using fbe !! excited to see how it works out :)
I have most of these but just found out about TurnSignal! Good stuff and love your avatar! Cheers!
You have all the new tech I want so bad 😍🤣
On the cable front, you can get pulley systems for your roof so you can keep the cable out of the way.
this new avatar go CRAZY THO
I have to say the new avatar has grown on me, I love it now.
Whoa those are some cool things to add!
ive been using the fan trick without realizing for months, neat.
Thank you Phia! ✨🌸
Oh dang... I can buy prescription lenses for my VR headsets and my FPV drone goggles from the same place?? That's sick. SO glad this video showed up in my feed. These suggestions are great!!
Dude i unintentionally did something similar to the hat and mat trick, with my really loud bird and fan XD
OVR Toolkit is so great, can confirm!
Thank you for this video
man id love for literally any of these to work on quest standalone
I AM OVRTOOLKIT STAN, I HAVE 20,000 HOURS IN IT
Literally same
awesome suggestions!
imo another must have is the little fan for the index. From the brand kiwi to plug right in and cool you down
FPS VR Also has playspace overlays and Cable turn overlays alongside performance statistics. Super useful piece of software for a few quid :)
OVR smoothing seems soooooo useful as a slimevr user!!
