“Our style” of food? I’m a 48 year old life long Southern Californian. The French Dip is a Philadelphia sandwich, not a California original whatsoever. And for some reason the Internet started saying that there is such a thing as a “California Burrito” that has french fries in it, which is total bull. Never in my life have I seen a burrito sold here that has french fries in it. If it is sold somewhere, it is a _VERY_ niche thing and not a popular thing in California whatsoever!
I’ve also never in my life seen pizza topped with a pound of uncooked Arugula or whatever greens they used. I would have picked that crap off of the pizza too if I were them!
This video is a joke. California doesn’t really have original food that it’s known for. We simply eat a mishmash of every culture’s food in the world here, with the only difference is we tend to have more healthy and vegan/vegetarian options for those of us that aren’t Hispanic (which unfortunately continues to be less and less every day).

I just wish I could get tri-tip easier in Houston. Actual butcher shops will usually have it, but the butchers at the grocery chains don't even know what a tri-tip is nearly 100% of the time.
you used to be able to buy Whole cooked Tri-tip from Buckhorn for only $20 + FREE rolls.

Oh please, try foods from the Pacific Northwest. Salmon grilled on wood planks, Marion berry pie, etc.
Lived in California for the first 25 years of my life, not everything was super accurate but still a great video! Hope they eventually get to try food from New Mexico (the state, not a modern version of the country Mexico). All you really need to import/order to make most authentic New Mexico dishes is a can or two of 505 hatch green chiles, the rest of the ingredients are pretty much just corn, flour, meat, etc.
I really wish we could bring them on a vacation to America and let them try the foods freshly made . Maybe even spend the spring or fall and travel the country. Maybe some day when I'm rich. Maybe somebody that is already rich could do it.

Seeing the big trees is definitely one of the top experiences of my life. I hugged one in Mariposa Grove and stayed still long enough a squirrel ran down the tree to my shoulder.

Im talking 30 years ago stationed out there the tacos were so cheap and so good. 5 bucks and i couldnt eat it so had leftovers. Now probably 5 bucks get men1 chicken wing.
Was there 6 years ago, the best local burritos were from a gas station cafe. Could get a plate for about $8. In the big cities maybe not but in the farm towns go to the local places. I miss it so much 😢

That plant is not arthichoke, it's called Rucola. Artichoke is another plant that looks like a round bulb.

Where's the dressing for the Cobb salad. It looks very dry. Also all the ingredients are supposed to be tossed together and coated with the dressing. I love a french dip sandwich, but I appreciate that one of them was honest and said he didn't like it. Btw, the pictures of California don't do it justice. I've been to those places and they are magnificent. I kind of wish you would show just how diverse in climate different locations are and how big California is so large.

My bills are not that high and i have money to save and travel the country and back home for holidays. im not fleeing california, i came to japan to live in a foreign country that i liked for the experience of living abroad....most are not brave enough to leave their city let alone their country. i can live a good life here with my salary but the same salary in california is unlivable.

There's no cheese on a french dip. It's the roll, thinly sliced beef and the savory juice for dipping. Anything else is a different sandwich.

Personally, I don't like California. I was so glad when I moved and haven't looked back. Yet, they do have some AMAZING food! I do miss the food.

@@Reactistan I lived there for a long time. Not sure if you've read, seen, or heard about "liberals" and the like, but if you haven't, just watch something and you'll understand. When places like Fisherman's Warf in San Francisco (used to be one of my favorite places to go) is now nothing but a disgusting homeless camp with people defecating on the streets, well, it's just not a good place to be. The political environment has taken a turn for the worse as well. There is so much wrong with the state that it would take a novel the size of "War and Peace" to write it all down. When I left, I never looked back and would never live there again. It's a great place to visit (Sequoia National Park, Mojave Desert, Lake Tahoe, the ocean, etc.), but not a place to live.

It kinda sucks watching people dissect the food and then try a teeny bite of a single ingredient and try to comment on it's taste when they essentially didn't try the food. The ratio of ingredients is paramount to how a food is supposed to taste. Eating a Hamburger does not taste the same as eating a steak with bread and salad on the side so picking a single topping off a pizza and thinking that you tried it and then to critique its taste is crazy.
