    What a fun shopping trip. I love how you caption everything, US dollar, what you're thinking or getting. My eyes 👀 got huge when I saw all those yummy bento. 😍 thank you for taking us shopping.

      I wish there were bento and rice balls in my area of the USA. But no, the "fast food" selections here are all junk and expensive on top of that. The Kit Kats in this video, the equivalent here is more expensive. The closest to bento here is one Japanese restaurant (who mainly focuses on sushi) offers "bento lunches" but they kind of such and a very small selection of mostly American-themed bento. No rice balls anywhere. Sushi is kind of popular, but I think these places are totally missing out on a lot of potential profits. If they offered genuine bento lunches for a reasonable price, with the right advertising, they would make a killing.

    I live in the state where Walmart started and is headquartered. It is now a company policy to prioritize local produce. I've been to stores in my area that may even have a photo of and information about the farm where the produce was grown. It's nice to see the consistency in focus between these two branches of the company.

That pack of shrimp would be more than $10 here (about $8 US or so I think?). The scallops would probably be closer to $15 or $20. Thanks for posting the price equivalent, saves me a google! It's so interesting to see what average life is like for people on the other side of the world.

      The reason the carts in the USA are so big is that you are more likely to buy more with a bigger cart than a smaller cart and the stores want you to buy as much as possible. They are intentionally big to try to make you buy more. Some grocery stores have smaller carts, but even they are pretty big.

To save money, we should get a place with a kitchen, eat two meals per day inside and eat one nice meal in a restaurant. Shop at Saiyu, Life or one of your other great supermarkets, and stock up on plenty of snacks. I always like to have a plan, but then I deviate from it if comfortable.

    I always hear people saying Japan (especially Tokyo) is "expensive". Well, either Tokyo is not expensive or where I live is expensive as prices for similar stuff here are similar and apparently, in Tokyo, some items are way cheaper than here. The tofu, for example, is about $4-$5 a block here. A little more for the organic. The "fresh" vegetables are more costly where I am and are of much poorer quality. I bet the pay in Tokyo is higher than the average where I am in the USA. All in all, I say it seems that Tokyo is not expensive, at least when it comes to food. I bet housing isn't cheap. Oh, and another example, at 10:05 that same kind of ready-made thing in the only local place that would sell such (they don't sell that specific one but do sell similar) would charge about $10 for it.

    • @miyakawaso
      @miyakawaso Před 4 lety

      Much of the variation and perception in prices has to do with the exchange rate. In the early 2010s it was around Y80 = $1 while in the past few years it's been above Y100. That makes Japan significantly cheaper from a US perspective.

      I find it funny that people are rushing to acquire a share of btc and crypto in general just on hearing Elon musk got some, despite the recent challenge at 48k(USD) for market value. The truth is, Bitcoin is way bigger than anyone in the world currently, this is merely a start to the rise of btc and crypto in general this year. What i'm trying to say is, btc is bigger than Elon and would sooner than later see better figures irrespective of his purchase.This is the very reason I am focused on accumulating more btc by way of trading with high indicators and expert signals I use for personal trading from pro trade analyst carlos I'll admit it, His guide has been the reason I've gotten 17 BTC in portfolio trading in the year 2020. he can be contacted on iNStagram (@carlos_andrewfx) for crypto-inclined challenges issues....

I am glad that chicken thighs are not popular and that will keep the prices down. The prepared meals are very reasonable for the nights you don't want to cook.
