Anyone actually been in kings cross at winter? That place is frigging freezing! I'm astounded she could feel her fingers let alone rinse through a couple of master class worthy pieces on a rickety old upright! Respect to her!
This may have been a marketing ploy, as some have stated here, BUT IT SURE WORKED ON ME! I love that she was willing to play a sub par instrument and share a first rate performance with people. I love her for it. She didn't need to do this as she is already a famous musician. She has elevated herself even higher in my esteem because she is not a technical robot like many musicians. Many focus only on technical ability and have no emotion in their music. Lifeless cookie-cutter clones. Valentina is my favorite because of this.
ElderPinkerton I don’t see how an August Förster piano could be a sub-par instrument, to be honest:) Just needs a bit of a tune, which is quite a pointless think to do in such a drafty place as a train station.
@@kritixonmobile you should be able to hear the 'tuning' issues? I can, but as I said - it's a beat up old piano and they have a particular sound. Her playing skills are such that the sound doesn't really matter. Whereas, if I played something - it would both 'be awful' and 'sound awful'! rofl!
@@apxpandy4965 nah g, the tuning is good, and that's not a beat up old piano, it's in great conditions, not the best, but replenished enough. a real beat up old piano would never sound this good, not even if liszt himself played on it. but perhaps for sorabji enthusiasts, it would sound good no matter what
I just luuuuvvvvvv Valentina!!! She is a real trooper. What other pianist (except maybe LangLang) would sit down at a broken-down spinet (one ivory missing, no less) and make it sound like a Steinway Grand. A pianist for the people, that's for sure!! Hearts to her!
Que hermoso que grandes pianistas interpreten en estaciones del metro y a veces también en calles bellas composiciones para ser escuchadas por todo público.
Lucky people! I would kill to see her in concert, she is hands-down my all-time favourite classical pianist ever! She was scheduled to perform here in Toronto couple of years ago, but because of idiot politics my government refused to let her play here because of her stance on Russia’s politics. Politics has nothing to do with the arts! I was so angry, and I was dying of cancer, I wasn’t supposed to survive, but I pulled through somehow, it was either luck or divine intervention, but either way come hell or Highwater, even though I’m flat broke living on permanent disability, before I die, I am going to find a way to see Valentina live in concert, and pray have an actually get the chance and the privilege to meet her and to give her a great big hug, because even though she doesn’t even know it, her music is what got me through all of my chemotherapy, all the radiation, all the medications, the months stuck in a hospital crying myself to sleep every night begging for death because because I couldn’t take the pain anymore. Pardon the pun but I’m being dead serious, her music uplifted me, classical music, particularly classical piano, has always had a profound effect on me psychologically, it’s the only thing in this world that no matter how depressed I am, can bring me out of that depression, pick me back up, and allow me to be happy if only for a few moments, and that’s what Valentina did for me every single day. I just pray to God that she comes back to Toronto and my government doesn’t act like an idiot again, leave politics out of the arts, because music is the only thing in this world that can bring everyone together, politics is what tears us apart!
I really like this, but I prefer her performance in the "Birth of a Boesendorfer" video. If you like Rachmaninoff, be sure to buy her 2 CD set of all five of his works for piano and orchestra.
OMG Valentina Lisitsa makes La Campanella sounds like freak flying gun bullet shot sounding war =O This is actually quite shocking and scary o.O (referencing timeline, 1:11 - 1:27) As usual, such clean and monstrous slaps although with that freaky untuned piano...
I'm really impressed that she would be willing to play on that crappy piano. And not only does she play on it, she makes it sound like a good instrument!!
If I were waiting for the train to go to work that day. Well, I would have lost my job. She is amazing.

Monkey D Roofie I watched her. Its insane.
I AM there watching her tonight.

You were so lucky to witness this 'concert'! Every station should have a piano... just in case Valentina passes by...

This was St. Pancras, though as it's just across the road from King's Cross, your point is still well made.

Who cares? It's always great to have an elite player on a public piano.

Pls can someone tell to me the name of this version of campanella?
La Campanella by Liszt
Pagannini - Liszt - La Campanella
Victor Prosper It's not a different version, just the recording starts about halfway through :)
Listz- Paganini grand etude 'La Campanella'
It's Busoni's version of Campanella
Same level as lang lang with another subtil touch
I'd play the first 5 measures of Beethoven für Elise and stand back up
There's a clip of her playing that on here. Done as an encore after a concert, causing a laugh from the audience.
that one octave:
C D E F g A B
And I thought that one doesn't simply sit on St Pancras Piano and play La Campanella...
