Working line German Shepherd against a purebred Belgian Malinois you're right. German shepherds are thicker not as lean and have heavier bone. Regardless, the best dogs honestly are a mixture of the three, Dutch Shepherd Malinois I'm working line German shepherd. The vast majority of working dogs are not FCI dogs. The most impressive studs in the world are outcrossed and bred back. They even breed with Mastiff and apbt and breed back. The Dutch Shepherd and Mal desperately need size and larger head types and a little bit more bone and stability, seriousness which the working line German Shepherd brings
My BM smokes all the GSD at the dog parks. This guy brings a gas rc car for the dogs to chase around. Hands down, BMs are running circles around most dogs!
I've had both and currently I have a shepinois (mali x gsd). Well bred German shepherds are definitely the better option for most people as they are alot easier to deal with. The tend to be alot calmer and have an "off switch" but can switch into work mode as soon as it's required. They also tend to be less high strung and are alot more adaptive then mals and can make great companions. I should emphasise the well bred part though, there are alot of badly bred german shepherds these days that have a ton of health and behavioural issues. Malinois are pretty strictly a working dog and need a consistent job, they do not make good pets and are not the kind of the dog that will lie around all day. For the right person they can be the perfect companion, but for 99% of people, absolutely not. They need ALOT of exercise and just walks probably isn't gonna cut it. When not exercised enough they can become destructive, mouthy, and extremely anxious. They also seem to be more prone to anxiety and biting issues then gsd. Both breeds are extremely protective and excellent guard dogs. They do also both need high amounts of exercise but mals just need even more. They are also both super intelligent, extremely trainable breeds and are the very best dogs for working.
Malinois has a few yrs in longevity, but the GSD is hands down the best breed. My Dad had K-9's in Vietnam and brought them home and were pets as far as we, as young children, were concerned. They were awsome dogs. They were awarded Commendations, but when the War was over, although my Dad tried, weren't allowed to come home and retire as a reward. I was so upset and so was my Dad. He went as high up as he could take it to bring the last one home. I heard it went all the way to the Prez, yet since he was trained as a killer and performed his duty well, yet was as gentle as a Lamb, but protective of us as a Lion, he was not allowed in the country. I understood that they put them down. My Dad told me that Canada was able to talk him as a Police dog, but I don't know if he just told me that because I would not stand for his fate to be the same as the others.

Both are basically the same for military ap from what I've personally seen but if you're dealing with very wet bm or very cold gs is what I've been told
You forgot to mention two very important fact about these beautiful beautiful dogs . Firstly, the Mallinois is a much more versatile and articulate dog than the German Sheppard and secondly, the Belgian Mallinois has virtually no health problems, which the German Sheppard does, especially with hip displacia.
Malinois actually suffer from arthritis and can have problems with elbow dysplasia. And German Shepherds are extremely athletic themselves, and they are better at making hardcore decisions. Thats part of their superior intelligence. They are easier to train as well.
@@glennlienhop342 what line of Gsd did you have? Working lines are extremely athletic and healthy. Some go their entire life without any joint or hip problems. Showlines are the ones that are more laid back, and suffer from a lot more health issues. When people explain that the Gsd is smarter than the BM, they’re talking about the working line, which I consider the “real Gsd”. Working line gsd’s are smart as a whip. Working line Gsd’s have always been present in my family, very hyper dogs they are. They were bred to go all day.
@@glennlienhop342 not all BM are smart my uncle had one and it was not smart at all and my gsd was smart as hell but I'm a say they are both equal and both are good for a military dog but in my opinion i think gsd is best for me
For military work If you want bite force, go with the shepherd If you want a dog that's almost as good as a German shepherd but eats less and doesn't need much grooming and lighter to carry around, go with the belgian malinois
Been in the dogsport world for 30 yrs, and I've been impressed with both breeds during that time, but in the end a Malinois will athletically run circles around the GSD. And that doesn't take into account the drive that Mal's have, second to none.
I would say they both qualify because they can be trained to do it all both breeds are strong loyal and a force to be reckoned with. With proper training these dogs are amazing at what they do.
@@ryanveith82 what's better than a Dutch shepherd, and X herder. Malinois, Dutch shepherd, working line German Shepherd and sometimes even out crossing with Mastiff and breeding back. This is where you get these supersized Dutch shepherds and Malinois. The very impressive looking studs, most of them are outcrossed and very few are FCI dogs. In fact most of the contract of military and working dogs are mixes of these dogs and come from knpv lines or Eastern Europe or they use these mixes. They should really call them X shepherds from now on because that's what they are
@@ryanveith8292% of all military dogs are Belgian Malinois's. Search up what the British sbs Belgian Malinois's did. He killed 9 Taliban fighters in a 6 hour fight
I’ve worked with a few dozen drug, bomb, and patrol dogs in the military, both mal’s and GSD’s (and some other breeds) - GSD’s are significantly smarter, so search/detection and obedience is typically better on GSD’s. They can also be taught to grab an arm with a gun in the hand, stuff like that. They’re also a little more of a baby. Still an absolute nut job, but are more cautious about what they do and tend to think harder about stuff like “here’s a fence, but there’s a gate 3 feet away that will be slightly slower but still fast…” mal’s are psychotic. They see red and hit a target with everything they got regardless of their own safety. The Mal’s will jump the fence because it’s faster regardless of how close the gate is to them. I’ve seen a Mal jump 8 feet, knock over a dude and bash it’s face on the concrete, breaking its jaw and knocking teeth out and did not flinch or let go. They’re both FANTASTIC at what they do, but they serve different purposes and have different strengths. It’s up to the handler to know those strengths and know what their dog is good at
I think the B.M is the ultimate military/12 dog they don't stop period unless their sleeping & probably chasing someone down in their dreams. Plus the size difference & strength makes them great at climbing vs the GSD being heavier. Family dog -GSD Devil dog that will take out an entire army - BM
Ive had both dogs for work, and the malinois i feel put in more effort and a better investment🤷♂️ my malinois was off leash about 2 months sooner than the shephard
I got 2 pups at the moment one x and one pure the mal is so easy to train but they have like no fear. My boy the pure holds his ground when a full grown dog come lurking and does not even the slightest show intimidation.
The "mallies" I professionally trained (now retired), were of WORKING stock and SUPERIOR to the GSD's. HANDS DOWN!!! The GSD's were great, but the mallies were EXCELLENT; SMARTER, more VERSATILE, higher PREY, BALL, and DEFENSE drives, ENDURANCE for DAYS, etc. The mallies my day WERE BETTER because they did JOB(locating perps, explosives/bombs, drugs/narcotics, performing sentry/patrol and guard duty), but when the became popular in the media EVERYBODY and their cousin WANTED one!!! Because of unscrupulous breeders wanted the MONEY, and were ill- concerned about maintaining breed integrity ALLOWED watering down of the original drives and instincts. What a shame...I have seen some WEAK mallies and unfortunately, that fault carries over to some instances of undesirable temperaments and INSTABILITY. Just check out the mallies in the shelter/rescues... thanks for letting me unload, but to answer your question, the mallies have my vote. 😄😄😄
We had K-9’s over the years (husband was a K-9 officer) & we loved our Shepherds. But there is nothing like watching a BM work. Living in the city, I would never want one as a pet. & think that the BM requires an exceptional handler. As much as I appreciate the beauty, athleticism & drive of the BM - I would be way out of my depth to try to raise one. To the people that have them I commend you, an insane amount of time, patience & knowledge goes into training the BM.
Malinois and Dutch shepherds for the military, because they don't run out of energy and have a higher prey drive. Also German shepherds can't run up walls like a spider, mals and dutchies can because of their arched toes. They actually have claws instead of nails.
Don’t underestimate the Malinois. I think if they were to fight each other, you would see a bit difference from what your saying to what would actually happen
belgian mallinoi is a perfect combat dog or working dog,its a character like achilles,my neighbours mallinoi have 95kg and can climb on the roof of a 3 etage high house like a cat, absolute warrior but should never be used as a house pet where children and smaller animals live
Mals or Dutchies are fantastic. But they desperately need size and larger head types. This is where the working line German Shepherd comes in. Also providing a little more stability, seriousness, less neuroticism. The best dogs come from knpv lines. The Dutch don't give up their secrets but people want to know know that they are crossing Dutch shepherds, malinois, working line German shepherds and then even out crossing with Mastiff or apbt and breeding back. The most impressive looking studs are these lines. They can use paper hanging but most of them are not FCI dogs anyways. The military does not care they want the best working dogs
It’s not even close! I’ll take the Belgian any day over the shepherd! Belgians are one of the most agile, fearless, working dogs in the world!!! And they’re pretty intelligent to say the least.
I love them both! I can’t choose. They both have tiny negatives, but major positives. Intelligence, is what I’d go with; however, just like people two dogs 🤔 everyone is different, the next Pair could be completely opposites
You forgot the BIG difference here: DRIVE. The Mal has insane levels of drive compared to the GSD hence the reason I worked along side Mals my entire time in Ranger Regiment and never saw a single GSD
I love both breeds they are great breeds for military dog. But i love malinois more than any other breed less maintanance though. Malinois is most used by millitary. Health wise and maintenance i think. imo
I have one too, shes about 2. She keeps to her self but shes all up in your face throwing paw on arm if she wants to go out. If she wants water she picks up her dog bowl and walks off with it and drops it in a random place. Wish she'd bring it to me because I dont wanna look for it lol.
As a person who has had a BM and interraxted with ALOT of GSD i can tell you malinois are alot smarter faster stronger and protective (speed isn't even close between them btw) even for the size the BM is around 2 inches taller from experience although my BM wàs extremely special even stated by professionals I still think a BM is alot better IF and only IF you train him properly and be kind with him
German Shepherd wins higher bite force stronger smarter easier to train high drive want to work all the time! That’s why you see more German Shepherds in this line of work.
I Love Both Breed's I Had a GSD when I was small they are Amazing, but my father told me German shepherds have a spine problem when they Grow up witch is why they live less Than the Malinois
The reason the military prefers a BM is because they are alot more swift and quick and won’t overheat as fast as a GSD, they also are smaller so they can go through many more terrains than a GSD that can’t. It’s also said that a BM will work till they die, whilst a GSD overheats EXTREMELY fast and will eventually have to take breaks every now and then.
I feel like this is arguing whether the werewolf or werebear form for the druid in Diablo 2 is better. The malinois is lighter on its feet and has more energy than a damn nuclear power plant, but the GSD has more brute force behind its bite. They're both good, just in different ways.
This is a load of rubbish there is no evidence of the gsd with this low bite force a gsd at 14 months old and has 450lbs as they have one of the largest temperalis muscles
For home protection I prefer the GSD, it's bark alone is enough to make people think twice. They have that spine chilling bark

Thank you. I'm so tired of people comparing bite force as if it meant anything. You'll never have high lvl competition dog owners who'll go "OMg my dog has this amount of bite force, what about you".
It just depends on the dog and how serious he or she is
@@oui2826 yeah, I guess the average person doesn’t really know any better though lol
I don’t think the person that makes these videos actually has experience with any of the breeds they post
@@Tommy.voodoo Couldnt agree more man
@@oui2826 I liked a couple of dog videos and now I keep seeing shorts that I wish I didn’t see lol.
I saw a video stolen from one of my friends that does PSA, a 5 second clip of him picking up a feisty Mal puppy, and the person that posted it is from Russia (assuming) and telling everyone the puppy needs to go to a trainer asap. I was like whaaaat? The puppy is with an awesome trainer 😂
@@Tommy.voodoo yeah man you're one of those rare, humble dudes out there on the internet it seems. I feel too many people own dogs and therefor feel the right to talk and give their opinions, which are most of the times not valid
@@glennlienhop342 agreed. That’s why I prefer females
@@glennlienhop342 not all BM are smart my uncle had one and it was not smart at all and my gsd was smart as hell but I'm a say they are both equal and both are good for a military dog but in my opinion i think gsd is best for me
For military work
If you want bite force, go with the shepherd
If you want a dog that's almost as good as a German shepherd but eats less and doesn't need much grooming and lighter to carry around, go with the belgian malinois
German Shepard...I was a breeder for them. They are gorgeous. I love them. Mine now, Venus is 10 Yeats old. She likes it quiet.
I like both breeds I've never had a Belgian malinois
Been in the dogsport world for 30 yrs, and I've been impressed with both breeds during that time, but in the end a Malinois will athletically run circles around the GSD. And that doesn't take into account the drive that Mal's have, second to none.
Any deady breed is good for me
Till the time they're pups😊❤
I would say they both qualify because they can be trained to do it all both breeds are strong loyal and a force to be reckoned with. With proper training these dogs are amazing at what they do.
German Shepard for family Belgian malinos
For military
Malonios are a Dutch Sheppard wanna be! LoL!

I have a GSD but I think BM is better for military
Agreed
It’s up to the handler to know those strengths and know what their dog is good at
It seems to be saying German Shepherd is better. But they both look like good dogs.
GSD is better for av poeple but MALINOIS is better for sporting peoples
I am Germanshepard Lover they’re amazing Dog we’re keeping that breed from Generations.
Recent study actually claims the belgian malinois as the most intelligent dog not just over German shepherd.
Malinois and Dutch shepherds for the military, because they don't run out of energy and have a higher prey drive. Also German shepherds can't run up walls like a spider, mals and dutchies can because of their arched toes. They actually have claws instead of nails.
My GSD can scale walls lol
Wtf bro 💀
Can confirm the claws lol
Que hermoso mascota cuidalo mucho
Malinois are less prone to injury and have natural instinct to bite and have much more energy. Definitely the better military dog breed
My friend has one I can play with and train while he’s gone for rn
German Shepard hands down nothing comes close .
How 95kg?
german shepards are second to none period..
It’s not even close! I’ll take the Belgian any day over the shepherd! Belgians are one of the most agile, fearless, working dogs in the world!!! And they’re pretty intelligent to say the least.
Amazing dogs. Both breeds. But ours is a GSD, and she's the best dog in the world!
GSD and BM are both very intelligent dogs and will protect you no matter whay
I love them both! I can’t choose. They both have tiny negatives, but major positives. Intelligence, is what I’d go with; however, just like people two dogs 🤔 everyone is different, the next Pair could be completely opposites
The most intelligent dog, I ever owned, was a mixed breed.
I think it all depends on who the caretaker/owner is. It's all in the character whether you're a passive person or more outgoing.
Gsd are like 220 pound linebackers mals are like 115 pounds mma fighter
Environment, Training and Exercise is a must for both...
Not fact. I work dog almost 30 years and it depends the dog want it.
You forgot the BIG difference here: DRIVE. The Mal has insane levels of drive compared to the GSD hence the reason I worked along side Mals my entire time in Ranger Regiment and never saw a single GSD
GSD
I love my GSD for family protection. Nobody wants to mess with them when Blitz is around. Amazing dogs, both of them.
My Nana has a German Shepherd and he fought in the military with one of the he’s competition and he won
Nothing compares the drive of a malinois
The Mal is a fantastic newcomer……but it’ll take some time before his trophy cabinet is as full as the Shepherd’s.
I love both breeds they are great breeds for military dog. But i love malinois more than any other breed less maintanance though. Malinois is most used by millitary. Health wise and maintenance i think. imo
Per me tutti e due meritano il trionfo bellissimi stupendi meravigliosi
In every comparison gsd wins but when it comes for drive BM is a beast
The Dutch Shepherd. 😊
Yeah, something tells me a GSD lover wrote this with a ton of bias. Guarantee my Mal will out work, out play, and out smart most GSDs.
I’ll take the German Shepherd but both dogs are awesome guard dogs and pets
Definitely the German Shepherd ❤️
Ne 1 🌍 🐾
🏆 DEUTSCHER SCHÄFERHUND 🥇
👍😁✌
Der Deutsche Schäferhund ist ein Zehnkämpfer.
Und der Malinois ist ein Artist .
from this video malinois just don’t have enough sense to know danger, that’s why they’re the better breed
German Shepherds who make The history
Malinoa best dogs.
I got a new Belgian malinois and it’s a 8 month,it’s really good it tells you when it needs to go outside
I have one too, shes about 2. She keeps to her self but shes all up in your face throwing paw on arm if she wants to go out. If she wants water she picks up her dog bowl and walks off with it and drops it in a random place. Wish she'd bring it to me because I dont wanna look for it lol.
@@pleasek0ffs lol cute one
The malinois is more agile but a bit less sophisticated .
As a person who has had a BM and interraxted with ALOT of GSD i can tell you malinois are alot smarter faster stronger and protective (speed isn't even close between them btw) even for the size the BM is around 2 inches taller from experience although my BM wàs extremely special even stated by professionals I still think a BM is alot better IF and only IF you train him properly and be kind with him
Belgion Malinios is Active Smart @ Intelligent Dog Breed in The World ✅
I have a German Shepherd, best dog ever. Very Loyal, highly Intelligent.
German shepherd
Before I was walking on this
Field and this huge german Shepard was chasing me so I ran and it was gaining on me so I side stepped it until it stopped
Both great dogs,both winners 💪❤️
Both are great.
I never saw a dog who barks louder than a GSD. Bark alone gives him 10/10.
lol you never heard St Bernard barks
Both great dogs
German Shepherd number one.
Malinois deserves the win , who agrees ?? . ,
👇
German Shepherd number one❤😊
False statements in this short belgian malinois were just scored at the number 1 spot for intelligence
Malinois
Team GSD😊😊😊😊😊❤❤❤🎉❤
German Shepherd my choice 100%
I feel like this is arguing whether the werewolf or werebear form for the druid in Diablo 2 is better. The malinois is lighter on its feet and has more energy than a damn nuclear power plant, but the GSD has more brute force behind its bite. They're both good, just in different ways.
Someone finally speaking in terms I understand.
Malinois are the best breed out there.
They are an amazing dog. But I’ll stick with the European Doberman.
i disagree its german shepherd
personal dog and too protective even with the same dog of the same house and I like that...how much did you bought your euro dobie plz@@cruithin4773
My favorite is the Belgian
The Malinois is the smartest dog on the planet.
Shepard all the way. Smartest dogs ever.
Got got me a maligator she turns 3 months she is something else lol
I'll pray for you!
Belgian Mallinois of course
A new report actually says the malinois is the #1 intelligence dog. Even above the border collie
I have a Belgian Malinois German Sheperd so 🤷♀️ my dog best
This is a load of rubbish there is no evidence of the gsd with this low bite force a gsd at 14 months old and has 450lbs as they have one of the largest temperalis muscles
I have a trained gsd I love him , but both dogs are really awesome and shouldn’t b compared
The Belgian for sure. The GSD has developed some severe breed damage. Throughout the decades. And the Malli is more agil
There’s a reason you don’t see many malinois as family dogs. They are strictly work dogs, they are the breed that is literally bread to bite and work.
