- THE ULTIMATE CARP RIG?! How To Tie the Spinner Rig Like A PRO! Mainline Baits Carp Fishing TV
The Spinner Rig may be super-popular, but there's one very good reason for this - it catches a tonne of fish! Full of anti-tangle qualities and able to reset itself if rejected or moved, The Spinner Rig is a hugely efficient carp rig, and one that in this video we show is also easier than you think to put together, and suitable for both wafter and pop-up hookbaits!

Can I just say I really appreciate that you presented each item in the order you use them when building the rig. Other people would have made this seem much more complicated than it is but you really balanced detail and simplicity well. Thanks!
Glad you like them!
That krimp tool is really nice finally some brand that got it right to invent something that works great to tie rigs yourself
As always mate, well made, informative and simplifying rig construction for the lads, brillaint!
Thanks! Glad you think so!
these rig vids are absolutely brilliant help
Thanks - glad they are helpful!
not been fishing to long now this video has saved me £'s on rigs cheers mate didn't realise it was so easy to make them step by step
Great to hear!
Well done Noah
Another really good demo John!
Thanks Paul - glad you liked it!

Another great video🎣! Tight Linz🐟Keep up the hard work 👍🤙!
Thanks! Will do!
You guys should come to the USA!
@@jakemartin1999 That would be amazing!
Hi John great rig and great video, I have a question, what size of crimp are you using in this rig? You just say its a small, thanks
Really thinking about trying this I'm a massive multi rig user for 99 percent of my angling but need to try this
Its another good option and similar to the multi can swap hooks without tying a whole new rig.
Great video to help others.
Thanks 👍
Excellent content as always 👌
Glad you enjoyed it
Enjoyed the video
Great to hear Tony!
Afternoon john
Love this rig got me out of more blanks than I can remember it’s all I use now had a 26lb mirror just this morning. However on a kamakura size 6 wide gape and a 12mm cell pop that rig is doing me well recently 👍🏻
Good stuff Joey! Well done on the mirror this morning!
Mainline Baits Carp Fishing TV thanks I’ll put the photos on the website 👍🏻
@@joeyr2523 Look forward to seeing them!
Tommy Bee I have full confidence in this rig so I’ll keep using it no point swapping and changing what works
Great!!! Thanks!!! ✌️✌️✌️!!!

Hey John great video 👍🎣, was just wondering why an anti tangle sleeve is being used on this rig as the boom material is already super stiff and plenty stiff enough to kick the hook bait away from the lead on casts and ejections without the use of an anti tangle sleeve , I’d understand if a more subtle braid or material was being used as the hook link then I’d understand it’s purpose.
Hi Joe, I like to attach my rigs to a quick change swivel where possible, so like an anti tangle sleeve as it covers all of this over for neatness, but when using the rig with a lead clip it also ensures the rig falls out in front of my leader/line/tubing instead of potentially falling back on top of the leader.
Good vid. For soft bottoms just swap boom for some soft coated braid
Thanks!
I've seen so.many people put the qc swivel through the front of the eye, on here its going through the back, does it make a difference??
great demos john, just one question, im new to fishing and was wondering would i have to use a helicopter set up with boom or just a normal lead clip set up ? cheers
Yes, you can also use a lead clip set-up with Boom and this rig - glad you're enjoying the videos!
love the video. i have one question, ive tried putting together this rig with a size 6 Kurv shank and 12mm pineapple pop up. i tested it in the water and its more a wafter rig with hook on the bottom and bait over the top. any recommendations on how to rectifie this? thanks
Hi, ideally you need a more buoyant 15mm pop-up for a size 6 hook and this heavy rig - if you really want that smaller bait you can add a small cork insert.
@@MainlineBaitsCarpFishingTV okay thank you. i have tried adding corking and it doesn't seem to affect it. thank you very much
I had this same problem and took the bait screw out and tied the floss straight to bait ring
Aaarrghh i wish you had done this video last week!! i watched another video on how to make this rig ready for my session on the 12th and they look awful in comparison 😭😭😭 im gonna have to snip them up and start again!! Seriously though another clear and quality tutorial thanks again mainline 👌👌
Ah sorry Luke, but thanks for the kind comment and hopefully now having your rigs spot on will pay off for you!
@@MainlineBaitsCarpFishingTV guys im a complete novice in the world of carp fishing can i just ask your thoughts on leadcore yay or nay? I have it but am just not sure on its uses/benefits or shall I just wait till im more experienced to incorporate it into my arsenal? Thanks in advance guys
@@lukephillips6577 Hi Luke, leadcore is fine when used it the right way and correct situation with one very important aspect being that the lead must be able to easily fall away from the leader should it become cut off from your main line i.e. by using a lead clip system or Heli Safe lead release system. Now lead core is designed to keep this section of line/tackle down, close to the lakebed so as not to spook fish visiting the area. These days anti-tangle tubing also does a very good job in achieving this, especially if you choose a heavy tungsten variety. So if you're a little nervous to use lead core just yet I'd suggest using tubing for now as in most cases it won't inhibit your potential catch rate at all. Meaning you'll continue to learn the many aspects of fishing for carp safely and most likely fully understand and be able to identify the times when lead core can benefit your approach. I hope this helps and good luck!
@@MainlineBaitsCarpFishingTV spot on folks il go with the rig tubing then till im a bit more confident about the leadcore thanks for the advice 👍👍👍🙏
@@lukephillips6577 No worries Luke - we're here to help! Good luck fella!
Hi John.
These demos are the best.
One question mate.
Why eliminate the loop, by the hook.
Surely, a small loop would aid the spin ??.
I would love your answer to this.
Please keep them coming.
Superb
Hi David, the swivel the hook is attached too, and the swivel on the hook to which the hookbait is attached ensures that the hook spins between the two swivels quickly, so there's no need for extra movement that could see the hook not spin to grab hold quite as quickly. Glad you're enjoying the video's!
@@MainlineBaitsCarpFishingTV
They are, one word.
SUPERB.
John puts it across, like no other.
Please keep them coming.
Mind you, i believe he has covered it all.
But, i hope he does the helisafe demo, because, you never see the diffrence between, ejecting the lead and keeping it on, in clean lake beds.
Hope this may be useful to you.
@@davidryley4162 Thanks David!
Best rig tutorials you will find anywhere.
Great video. Nice and clear as ever thank you. however I have a couple of questions. A. Can you use chod link for the boom? Also what is the boom attached to please a leader? Booms baffle me.🧐
Hi Jamie, I've not used Chod Link before so not entirely sure - if you can tie a figure-of-eight-loop-knot at each end then yes. With an attachment loop (and anti-tangle sleeve) at the end of the boom section you can attach the rig to quick change swivels and use the rig with a corresponding leadclip or helicopter style on the leader above the lead.
Mainline Baits Carp Fishing TV No probably not as it’s really stiff but crimps might work. Thanks for your response. I’m on a 7 day session and want to try a few new things including this rig.
@@jamielee135 Good Luck Jamie!
Love this rig but I use shrink tube instead of a kicker. Shrink tube has a better hold and this makes me a better feeling. Use this rig often in spring with neon popups. It's unbeatable
Like it!
Hi thanks a lot, can I create a boom using another tool as I can’t get my hands on the krimp tool Korda version but have Korda boom and Korda Krimps
Ah, no - you need to use the Korda Krimping tool for the krimps to be safely secured.
Can anyone advise if this rig can be used on a helocopter lead section and can I use this combo with mesh bags. If so how. Another great vid Mainline!. Many thanks
Yes you can! (on both questions) Thanks for watching.
All I have is question lol my apologies….. great Chanel 😁
I’ve always fish bottom baits but am adapting lol .. could this be fished with a running ledger on dark matter tungsten tubing?
Yes you can!
@@MainlineBaitsCarpFishingTV
Cheers 👍🏻
Another question lol
Would this boom section work on a heli rig in silt ?
How do you attach to main line? (Lead clip)
Hey guys I've just got back from France, i used this rig all week with the pineapple pop ups that you recommended to me and I caught alot including a few biggies ! Where can I send the photos too ?
Hope your all well
Great news Reece! - You can upload to our website here: www.mainline-baits.com/upload-catch/
Hello my favorite channel !!! always nice to watch! I learned a lot from you !! I WISH YOU EVERYTHING GOOD AND HOPE EVERYWHERE I WILL MEET YOU! Your products are always happy. I haven't seen the best yet! I would like to cooperate with you in promoting your product in the Caucasus and Russia!
Could I use a beaked point hook on this rig
I belive its better to put the swivel through the hook eye the other way round ,if for any reason the swivel end finds its way throught the kicker/shrink tube you could cause mouth damage to the fish ,in effect you could have two hook holds.
Doing it the other way ensures nothing can go wrong and the mechnics of the rig are the same

FANTASTIC Videos as always Thank You! PS: I Must Know. IF you could only use ONE RIG for the rest of your life, Which Rig would you chose please? Tight Lines!
Difficult question but The Simple Wafter Rig (see the link) probably goes out more than most. czcams.com/video/YJgzikH8Txo/video.html
@@MainlineBaitsCarpFishingTV fantastic! Thank you for the answer and link, i will be giving this a the on the weekend. I have some nice , mainline, 15mm wafters at the ready. 😎
@@ssibenchley3232 Good luck!
Can this rig be used on lead core clip system or just the heli setup?
Yep, you can use this with a lead clip.
Hey John, ive been using the spinner rig with your favorite hook pattern ( longshank ) with a bottom bait, and ive had incredible results with acurate hook holds. ive been placing the hook bead opposite the barb..
Sounds good Lee - the Spinner Rig is very versatile in this way!
@@MainlineBaitsCarpFishingTV yes,,im also adding a stick, then as i said just a boilie outa the bag. but its a winner..
@@leecallaghan5294 Love the attraction from a small Stick!
Can this rig be used in conjunction with solid pva bags John ?
There's no reason why it couldn't be when tied shortly, but a soft braid is the preferred hooklink for solid PVA bags - supple to sit okay within a tightly formed bag.
Would this work with a bit screw and with a knot instead of crimping?
Hi, you could use knots to create a boom section, but a bait screw may not give the same movement as the micro rig ring i.e. let the hook spin and turn between the swivel above it with the hookbait and the spinner swivel below.
Браво
New to this rig lark. This looks very much like a Ronnie rig or is there a subtle difference.?
This is the same rig - known as the Spinner Rig or Ronnie Rig, but the same presentation.
Hello. Could you please tell me what size Micro swivel do you put on the hook what holds the Pop Up?
Hi Daza, there is only one size of micro swivel and they are just called that on the packet - hope that helps fella.
@@MainlineBaitsCarpFishingTV Thanks for the quick reply…I’m getting the option of medium or large everywhere I look?
@@gdb99238 I just saw that myself - sorry I Thought there was only one size. I'd use the medium.
@@MainlineBaitsCarpFishingTV Thanks. Great vids by the way. Helped me loads
Thank you for using your camera on the top. But being focus would have great
Hi there, I still haven’t received my snowman rig bits. When will it arrive? Many thanks
Hi Billy, the order of your tackle prize items has been processed so should be with you soon fella!
@@MainlineBaitsCarpFishingTV okay cheers guys!!
Ino it's sounds daft but this looks similar to how a chod rig is made but tied to mainline rather than running. I.e chod rig has the bollie running free around the d shape you form in hook. We're as this has bollie sitting free on the hook. And both use stiff monofilament. U could basically tie a chod rig to main line
Similar rigs but with some big differences like the Spinner will hold a pop-up tighter to the bottom and can also be used with Wafters.
What micro ring swivel are you using here?
Hi Robin, I think these ones were from Fox.
What size kickers are used please
Hi, we used the Medium sized Kickers here.
Is the the pineana - pineapple and banana?
Yes Chester they are made using a blend of those flavours (plus sweeteners etc).
06:02 I gather this is just an editing error? We don’t need to take another 7/8 inches of Boom? 🤔
Could you use this rig without krimps?
Yes you can.
@@MainlineBaitsCarpFishingTV Thank you 👍🏼👍🏼
not sure why you need a kicker in this rig. it has no connection to the angle of the line as the ring of the swivel allows for a lot of change in direction on the line... so the line wont be pulling on the hook at an angle? Or am i missing something?
Joshua Rin Hi Joshua, apart from increasing the claw-like angle and hooking potential of the hook, the main function of the kicker is to cover the join between the hook and spinner swivel meaning it stays in a secure position without any risk of the hook falling off the swivel.
How on earth is getting a kicker over a spinner swivel that easy its bloody stressful 😂
Haha - keep practicing Andy and it'll be okay!
@@MainlineBaitsCarpFishingTV I've tried trimming away as much as I can get away with I've tried saliva I've tried everything I have particular trouble with the size 4 wide gapes I prefer to use but cant get them on 😂
@@andynorcott586 Maybe just check you have the largest size kicker for a size 4?

Don’t suppose anyone’s got a list of all items needed? So I can go into a shop and buy it all
I know 2 different people that won the Jacckpot on the Lottery . They didnt even have to share their prize . I cant even win some bait making bits . Spinner rig . Yay .
Ah... better luck next time! We will be doing more giveaways in the future.
@@MainlineBaitsCarpFishingTV Not to worry mate . Ive got all anyway . And the kitchen sink . Its probably all well out of date though .
Korda and partners/associates really don't like calling it by the correct/original name(Ronnie Rig) and pushing their own name, everyone else calls it the Ronnie Rig. Any reason?
Not sure, Ronnie or Spinner we hear the rig referred to as both within our catch reports etc.
Just tease it in just a bit off bell
Just a Korda advert
Hi Nick, a pity you think so as this is more than branding and an explanation of a great rig. We need to use terminal tackle of some sort and used what came straight from my tackle bag which are the items I'm happy and confident in using, and I think it would only right to use or recommend the items I use myself by choice (I am not sponsored I can use whatever I wish). Hopefully this adds some transparency to the tackle chooses here and a video where we are simply trying to give people good advice and rig info - thanks for your comment and good luck on the bank!
You all keep using it.....nothing I like more than you all using the same rig!!!
So much variety with rigs that can all work well on their day - with this just one of them.
@@MainlineBaitsCarpFishingTV all I see is Ronnie's on all the newbs rods after 40 year carp fishing I know rigs don't matter simple.
I dislike this rig , because only the kickers keep the fish , if the kickers go back you lose the fish
Okay - thanks for the comment.
That makes no sense
You can is a pièce of shrinktube instead of the kicker, Works perfect👌
The overhyped ronnie. Trying this atm and probably had 3500 beeps and nontakes per take. Never used such a non hooking in me life
BOON! Material is infact amnesia mono, £5 for 250 mtr
Don’t like the Korda crimps utter rubbish crimped the 6mm crimps on the small size on the pliers as stated made sure everything was inline before I crimped the boom section. pull tested the boom with 8 times and they all snapped defo something I will not be casting out in the pond. Just my own person experience I think their not safe utter rubbish that will count for more lost fish swimming about with a hook in its mouth
john, my dad says if you reply to this comment he'll plead guilty to the rape charges
Who else has never had so many beeps and aborted takes as when using this rig? 🙋🏻♂️🙋🏻♂️🙋🏻♂️🙋🏻♂️🙋🏻♂️
worst rig ever...i used this rig on big fish waters soon as i got runs picked up rod hook pinged out.never again, lost alot of huge carp on these, old school is best keep it simple not all this
