8/10 caps blew! That's not a bad record for first try!! One cap blew but didn't make a sound, that was odd... Don't forget to register for Keysight!
Thanks mehdi
Ps matthew from the us
I thought it was just going to go boom once and every day it would reload for a new boom. Rapid fire booms much better!
did the mic just not pick it up or was there in fact no sound to be heard? probably hard to pin down looking back, right?
I signed up for the Live from the Lab Keysight event! Can't wait to watch the stream tomorrow!
This alarm clock not only wakes you up but makes you get out of your bed instantly. Super effective
Also wet your bed too :D
The laundry bill would get excessive.
If you are lucky enough you can also burn down your home, all in one.
Design is very human?
Yes, it's like hearing gunshots while sleeping 😂😂
This project involved live mains power on an open contact, but what scared me the most was Mehdi's woodworking skills.
You're not a woodworker until you sacrificed a quart of blood to tree carcass gods !
Risky jigsaw technique
Ive seen safer videos from china on liveleak
My only fear is accidentally putting ur hands and or hand the the live.... Probs?? And once the alarm goes off it electrocutes u. "The best alarm clock ever it's even 5D it's so awesome it's SHOCKING" is my commercial. What's your's???
If he keeps using a jigsaw like that his hand will be a jigsaw puzzle.....Working out which finger goes where 🤟😂
02:39 Keeping Your welding glasses on your forehead, so that they automatically come down when You get scared by an arc is the best Idea in this video XD
As a professional welder
I can confirm this is indeed how we do it, we keep the goggles on our foreheads or the helmet if you wear one of those lifted up so when the arc scares us they flop down over our eyes and we can begin welding

7:41 "It's almost like I'm making a time bomb..."
The MOMENT he realized the optics aren't great on this one 😂

That was the perfect moment for the 'FBI! OPEN UP! meme.

Agreed Amazing video best video.
The slow-mo sound of the alarm reminds me of the intro of the song The Ruler Of Everything by Tally Hall.
Sounds like the final boss music from Little Nightmares 1
needs some color grading magic and it'll be the ultimate meme
Sounds pretty nice actually
That was quite dangerous but very fun. Yet he didn't get shocked once !
What a pro !

those edits when the music stopped and focused on mehdi's face and switches back eery time is cool.but whats funny is when it was focused on the keysight scope, the giveaway music started. great editing!
The pause Mehdi took after joking about that he wasn't making a time bomb killed me
@Tango Dragonfruit Just throwing ideas around ;);)
I guaran-goddamn-tee that CZcams's legal department will either take this video down, hit him with a channel strike, or both. Buncha corporate lawyer asshats.
🤣🤣🤣🤣 im dead too bro.. its just his paused face.
@@tangodragonfruit5544 I mean, how hard would it be to take a switch off a trigger, and solder the wires on the alarm?
@Tango Dragonfruit That wouldn't work, most explosives need either heat or a powerful shockwave to detonate. For example ANFO, a common explosive that is readily made at home, requires another explosion to set it off. Just fire or electricity won't work. You need to connect the wires to a specifically designed detonator and that would require greater voltage. So you would need to connect the alarm voltage to a relay or other switching device to tell the detonator to ignite.

This guy seriously needs his own TV show. Like Super Dave. Only with electronics lol. Look up Super Dave on CZcams.
Super Dave Osborne is a character created and played by comedian Bob Einstein. Einstein's comedic depiction was of a naïve but optimistic stuntman who was frequently comically injured when his stunts went spectacularly wrong.

A combination of sheer joy combined with a extra appreciation of life, known only to those who have come close to losing it
There is something universal in the reaction of a human when something connected to an electrical plug explodes. I made literally the same sound when i was fixing the plug for my water heaater and it exploded after being plugged.
U would be a great author if you ever decide to do it then I would be the very first to try it
This is the exact alarm clock I need. I usually have to set 10 consecutive alarm to wake up. But with this one, only one alarm will be enough to wake me up permanently in the heavens.
Make sure you got an extra pair of undies nearby. Trust me. You will need them
Piece of advice from a fellow multiple-alarms guy : the trick is to have the alarms close enough to one another so that you can't fall back asleep completely between 2 alarms. Like, having 10 minutes between alarms is useless, because you're back to a deep sleep after 10 min so the second alarm is just as bad at pulling you out of sleep as the first one. From my testing, the optimal time is 3 minutes. 5 is acceptable, but less efficient.
@@arantes6 or just put your alarm away enough that it requires you to stand up to turn it off 😕
and if you upscale and use old TV capacitors, you get a bigger boom, and the room fills up with smoke so you either have to leave because of it, or that the smoke alarm triggers, which is even louder😂😅

Youre the best educator Ive ever seen. I finish every video with a big dumb grin on my face AND I get to learn something in the process. The way you highlight your teachable moments is fantastic. Thank you! Try to stay safe.
This man is perfect for designing traps for a Saw movie.
I had an old CRT TV standing in my bedroom. One night, at about 3am, a capacitor blew up inside of the (turned off) TV. So I can confirm that capacitors are good alarm clocks.
It was a ghost trying to keep you from a proper sleep schedule
thats pretty scary considering it was off, what it if had caused a house fire ?
@@novictim Digital appliances are very rarely truly off. They go into standby. The power supply is still converting a tiny bit of power to power a board to check if the power button is pressed. Not many things you plug in have a true switch that kills all power to the device. Oddly my wife just got a computerized sewing machine and it does just that, flip the switch and no more power. Everything else goes into standby.
Old CRTs can store In the capacitor for some time. Ive seen the tube itself blow. But it was powered when that occurred.
@@RedStripeMedia can that happen when it is off?

You can improve your design by adding brushwire to the capacitor legs to keep them from bending and then also adding a divider between live and ground on the igniter. This wave you'll have almost a guaranteed chance of having all the capacitors blowing up

Mehdi...with those power tools, seriously, you're killing me. Would you like to see the scar from where I drilled into my palm when the bit broke through because I was holding the workpiece to save time, instead of using a vice or other proper method of holding the work? Or the scar from where I sliced through my finger, because I was holding the workpiece while cutting it, instead of using a vice or other proper method of holding the work - to save time? The trips to the ER did not end up saving me any time. I learned the hard way. Don't be me!
I have a scar on my finger where i drilled it. It REALLY hurt and there was a lot of blood.
Especially when he used the saw.
safety regulations are for losers~~
Yeah, somehow the saw managed to be the most dangerous thing in this video
You should see past videos when he used power tools. I think in one he had his thumb right under the saw. I think it was the van de graaf video? lol

5:29 I had to pause it while I temporarily died😂😂
Well he is addicted to Electrogasm; his evil laugh at 11:01 tells
I would recommend using a stepper motor instead of a DC motor.
This way each time the alarm goes off it moves a set amount, you could also use the microcontroller controlling the stepper motor as a timer, so you wouldn't need an alarm.
I think he knows how to make something way more efficient. He just made a fun video out of an alarm clock, and you have to comment about how YOU think it would be better. Jeez man.. talk about being self centered.
Calm down he was just suggesting an idea
Just use a timer output and switch relays with it. You can switch as many capacitors as you want.
Mehdi doesn't use microcontroller in his projects. It adds an extra layer of fun and challenge to try designing electrical devices without computerization. Plus, if he were to use a microcontroller for everything, we wouldn't learn nearly as much about how electricity works.
Love your videos! Keep up the good work!
Lol. Just searched your channel up after seeing a meme of your old videos from ten years ago, glad to see you're doing well
The editing at 9:52 was so funny XD I laughed at the sponsor sound effect
I'm not sure what scares me more: how Mehdi handles power tools or how Mehdi handles electrical power 🤔
Have you seen any of the rest of his videos? This one is pretty tame
Amazing, man!
Nice. Will surely make up a memorable morning. I would choose something like a decade 4017 counter instead of a motor to drive a set of transistors
elays. Each alarm would switch the counter, blowing up a different capacitor each time. You could even put a larger capacitor on a 12-hour alarm and call it "Big-Ben".)

man this is so tempting to make, having all the equipment to make it
Bro this channell is the best. It never lacks crazy content :D
Make the capacitor holder two pieces by splitting the body along the circumference midplane of the rotor disc. Then make it to where you can secure them together with 3-4 equally spaced screws accessible on the front circular face. You could even make the capacitor holes a little smaller so it holds them more snugly, and then the caps won't rotate in place when the alarm clock goes off.
Or just put large metal pads on either side of the wheel with a little notch each leg can fit into (to make changing them out easy,) and treat it like a brushed motor
7:50 - Yeah, but Mehdi, thats how you do that. I assume, I mean.
You are great man love you❤
