  • 10th September 1966: For regular uploaders of these classic Match of the Day series it comes as no suprise that program editor Alec Weeks chose this fixture between Spurs and Manchester United for the third season running having previously witnessed several high scoring encounters. It might early season but it's Spurs in pole position before the match just a point behind leaders Burnley; however a win would see United leapfrog them.

Greaves was the goal scoring king of White Hart Lane! What a fabulous player!

Pat Jennings was a truly remarkable goalkeeper. One of the all time finest British goalkeepers in my humble opinion.

Great to see the G-Men getting on the score sheet , back in the days when THFC were a force to be reckoned with

I was at this game. My 2nd ever match age 7. My first was the week before when we beat the Arse 3-1.

David Gaskell's last game for United. They bought Alex Stepney from Chelsea and he made his debut in the following game against City.

Tavy@ i cant help but notice how bad george bests passing was pre 1966. I have saw alot of bests games pre 1966 and i had no idea his passing was awful to say the least. And it wasnt hard passes like a 30 to 40, 50 yard pass. It was all 15 yard stuff. He would either hit it to hard or not hard enough! And this is from a guy that boasted on every chat show he was on he was born with a gift?? MMMmmm. At age 16 and naturaly gifted passing a ball is the easiest skill out of them all. Like maradona. At age 16 he could sit a ball on a pound coin from 40 yards away. Best was the greatest player in the world from 1966 to 1972. He was awe some !!!! Best was the greatest two footed player i have ever saw, still to this day !!!!!!!!!!!! R.i.p george

No wonder they changed the goalkeeper passback rules. How silly that looks now.

Not really just an honest(perhaps boring for sure) part of the game!..They've sped the game up these days, smoother surface Grass(supplemented with artificial grass to hold the real stuff in place) a ridiculously lighter Ball,Fitter(perhaps more all round Athletic)Players, but ones who look the part, but either can't or choose not to handle the Physical side of the game, diving&constant cheating!
.I could go on,but I think u grab my point!
t...The Bottom line is ether of these two sides would tear apart their modern day equivalents, without the slightest problem!

It was after this game, in the Bag O'Nails club, that Best and Charlton wrote the lyrics to Strawberry Fields Forever.
