It was 1979 and I was there. Was very honored to be in his presence. R.I. P # 19

I saw this live standing in some grassy areas beyond where those chairs were in the parking lot. We went to the HOF game from 1970 to 1983. The induction speeches used to be right in front of the original enterance to the hall, and then they had the game. The inductees would take a quick parade ride in convertables to the stadium and you could stand right where they went by and maybe got a quick handshake. And yes it was hot being late July. The stadium was all bench seating at the time. The last time I went to the HOF was 2017. When I went to the cahsier to pay admission they asked me if I drove there. I thought it was kind of a strange question but I said yes. Then they told me that parking was 20 bucks. It was always free at least up until 2004 which was my last previous time there. I almost walked out, but I paid it since I was already there so I figured I'd take one last look around thinking I'd never go back again. I still haven't.

I kind of wonder if football hasn't peeked in some way. I know it has for me. I looked back at those days as a kid watching Johnny U and the Colts, and it just doesn't seem as exciting today as then. Even though there are some great athletes playing today, it seems routine in so many ways. In those days when the modern era of the NFL was just starting, you could always expect the unexpected. Especially with Johnny U, you never knew what he was going to do or play he'd run. It kept the defense on their heels and the fans on the edge of their seats. I guess it's doing great since it's worldwide with maybe a billion fans. I wish them luck, but I'm glad I witnessed the era I did as a child and later as an adult because it was really exciting.

Class act. It’s still an absolute travesty that the Colts ever left Baltimore.

The Ravens should just altogether claim the Colts history like what the NBA's Bobcats did with the Hornets. Hell, we could even keep the Ravens name.

@@ocularzombie6679I disagree the colts should have the colts history. They are the colts. They are the exact franchise that left Baltimore. After they left you could have still rooted and been a fan.

John appears to be slurring his speech . He must have tied one on the night before with the liquor but hell the man earned the right . He was a football warrior
