Pistol Pete is the one who originated the behind the back elbow pass. No one had done it again (in a game at least) until JWill aka White Chocolate, did it
You can find a video of Shaq saying that he had the most fun playing with Jason Williams. Shaq said he could get in the paint and throw his arms up in the ball just be in his hand because JWill put it there. His job was to get the ball up the court and into the hands of the shooters. Love watching these highlights with you… most of these I watched live growing up, and it’s so awesome to see a new generation dude like yourself appreciating the greatness of the past players… keep em coming bro.
Yup JWill made the elbow pass famous. When that happened everyone was doing that move. That was when Sports Illustrated named the Kings team "The Greatest Show on Court." We had Vlade Divac, Chris Webber, Jason Williams, and Doug Christie. All of whom where incredible passers.
White Chocolate was an amazing talent so fun watch. Now that’s out the way - a lot of fans today (we all likely know the huge Instagram page pushing “pure hoopers”) talk about “pure hoopers” guys who look natural. Guys who’s basketball skills are high level and it just comes naturally to them. Williams was that....... and once the Kings got rid of him for Mike Bibby - a guy who knew the intangibles, what needed to be done on the court to bring out the best in his teammates as a point guard leader they became championship contenders. That pure hooper shit will only get you so far. Some of today’s guys (I won’t name names) know how to play. They have all the skills, they can shoot dribble all that but they don’t understand the game. Pace of play intangibles that make good players great and great players champions. It’s why some guys as talented as they are won’t be champions as the best player on a team.
