- My personal favorite for this beautiful Puccini aria. Recorded 6th November 1909.
Lyrics Italian:
E lucevan le stelle...
e olezzava la terra...
stridea l'uscio dell'orto
e un passo sfiorava la rena...
entrava ella, fragante,
mi cadea fra le braccia...
Oh, dolci baci, o languide carezze,
mentr'io fremente
le belle forme disciogliea dai veli!
Svanì per sempre il sogno mio d'amore...
L'ora è fuggita e muoio disperato,
e muoio disperato!
E non ho amato mai tanto la vita...
Tanto la vita!
Lyrics English:
The stars were shining...
and the earth was bathed in fragrance...
I heard the garden gate quietly open
and a footstep brush the sandy path...
she entered, softly perfumed,
and fell into my arms...
Such sweet kisses and soft caresses,
while I with trembling hands
removed the veils from her exquisite form!
My dream of love has gone for ever...
the hour has fled and I die in despair.
I die in despair!
And never have I so loved life...
Never!
Caruso's final version. Never equalled!
Il piu' grande di sempre.
Immenso!!!❤❤❤❤

Grande Caruso

You listen, but you don't believe this sound is coming from a man - and then you remember .... it's Caruso! Thank you for not "enhancing".
Why wouldn't you? It's a male voice.
@@rabbiezekielgoldberg2497 What I should have said (and what I meant) was HUMAN and not just MAN.
@@johnbevan4684 Aahh, that would make more sense.
@@rabbiezekielgoldberg2497 Yeah, sorry for the mistake there. Cheers.
du grand art bel enregistrement
In a class of its own.
He catches your interest immediately and keep the supreme attention all through the piece.
Thank you for the great transfer and the beautiful
photo.
Wonderful!
Grazie!
Proprio non capisco come si fa a paragonare Lanza a Caruso. Caruso il più grande tenore a detta di colleghi e critici, quelli veri . Lanza un cantante con voce gradevole ma modesta
Lanza was the GREATEST, and Arturo Toscanini said that of Lanza.
Divine... Il grande, il unico maestro... Thank you very much for posting.
1:34, o dolci baci
Great! Truly majestic!
It is awesome to 'unstupidify' from the horrible Traviata I've just heard one hour ago....
Great emotional performance, but remember that Cavaradossi’s part was written for a Spinto Tenor and Caruso is not that, I would prefer Corelli and Bergonzi to Caruso’s because their voice fits this aria more, nonetheless this is a thrilling performance
So what is Caruso if not a spinto tenor?
@@chastenor caruso was a dramatic tenor
@@andress4780 Yes, but he was equally at home as a lyric tenor and a spinto tenor
Is Bergonzi a spinto always thought he was a heavy lyric- he has a super lyrical sound. Not disputing just never thought he was spinto. He’s my fave !!
Caruso is definitely a spinto.
