    Xenoblade 3 really does bring the mirrored nature of 1 and 2 together.
    Like you had brought up, Shulk and Rex start on opposites “sides” and end up reaching the same conclusion somewhere closer to the middle.
    Rex starts as an Ouroboros and has to become a little bit more Moebius (like Mio). A blind quest for betterment in search of Elysium, and the final boss is the extreme Ouroboros (Malos/Torna = Ouroboros, Amalthus = Moebius).
    On the other hand, Shulk starts on the Moebius side (Zanza) and has to become more Ouroboros (like Noah). And the final boss isn’t the extreme Ouroboros (Egil), but the extreme Moebius, Zanza.

    It’s funny how Future Redeemed actually blew a hole in something I’ve been saying about the series. I’ve said for a while that every Xeno game is “A field of flowers growing on top of a graveyard.” Because every single world was created by tragedy and the gods have their own designs for them from the start (except the Architect, whose growing ennui is its own problem.) But humanity keeps growing beyond the purposes set in motion for them and become the new life that rises from the dead. They are saying to us that it doesn’t matter that these flowers are growing in a graveyard, the things beneath the ground are dead, they are alive, they are what need to be cared for now.
    Future Redeemed is the entry that finally contradicts this. Deus was only about the graveyard, the flower field was an unintentional side effect. Klaus didn’t mean to destroy everything, and he did cultivate the field afterwards, but does intend to rip it apart. Alpha’s streamlined the process- he’s going to fill the graveyard on purpose and willfully plant his field over it.
    It’s almost exactly the same stance the series takes on forging destiny- those who claim to have the authority to decide destiny for others are always cruel and in the wrong. Those who forge destiny for themselves are always, ultimately unstoppable. Nature and the way of the world growing the flower field atop the graveyard is good, creating that situation yourself is wrong.
    Lots of rambling there, sorry, just lots of love for this series.

    I made the exact connection between Matthew and Cris dialogue. See, Cris says 'You are missing something Noah! Being content with one's lot'. This could have been phrased better or explained a bit more but what Cris is talking about is the importance of equanimity and contentment. The key themes of spirituality and awakening. Desire is an instinctive human emotion and that EXACT desire that resides in Noah ALSO resides in the ravaged world we see in FR Earth memory scene. THAT has also arisen out of desire to go 'beyond', the 'betterment' of our lives. Cris actually tries to express the wisdom of spirituality (the importance of equanimity) to Noah in that scene just as Matthew is showing how a world made out of the death of people will repeat the same mistakes that has arisen out of craving, ambition, ego and desire. That was a very profound but subtle parallel I was able to connect but I'm glad there were others like me who actually introspect and spend time weaving the themes of XC3 into a coherent structure. Great job!

  • @kyurei4478
    @kyurei4478 Před rokem +28

    Humans desired for beyond, and it's not inherently a bad thing. This is human nature. They should just learn when to be content. But what they should strive for is always the smile on people's faces, so what they could say when looking back is: "I'm good now", nothing more. That should be the right goal to reach. Noah wants to change things, but it's not a bad thing in his case. He realized this is a world where only few can smile. If this is a world which prevents them from living their lives, he will end it. Fighting in order to live. Such world doesn't deserve to exist no matter what, so he had, they had to try for better. The humans from Klaus' world just didn't know when to be content. We all know which world the Klaus' world is supposed to represent.

      I'd argue he didn't need more screen time perse but specifically a better segue into his reappearance and maybe a better distribution of his screen time. We actually know exactly why he's important to Noah within two cutscenes; the first being the very first offseeing we see and the second being when Noah experiences N's memories where he names Crys directly. The problem is that the first appears near the start of the game while the second appears in the more latter half of the game and I don't think we really see him in between. The amount of Miyabi content we see is about even up to her return but we get those bits and pieces a little more throughout the game; along with that though her present state needs less explanation than Crys straight up becoming Moebius for a seemingly unlikely reason (That also would be seemingly be in opposition to Mobius's interest).
      All in all I still think he was great. He just needed a better reintro

    I'm pretty sure Crys didn't actually think that way. He just wanted to cheat the system and see Noah again, thats why he accepted becoming Moebius. Thats what I think anyways. Similar to how Ghondor pretended to want the world to stay the same when you first meet her.

    bro, figuring out the narrative and symbolism of Xenoblade chronicles 3 almost feels like I am reading the bible (accept it feels more difficult because this series is so complex and deep).
    But I love this kind of stuff in stories, you can see so much in the game and yet it is the unseen things in this game that is goes beyond the boundaries of the game itself. I am absolutely confident that the narrative of this game was so much more difficult to create than the game itself.

    Thank you for shedding so much new light on Takahashi's story. This bit made me wonder why we hear Z's theme (the only time it plays) when Alpha is forcefully asserting himself onto Matthew. If Alpha is Ontos reflecting the desire to start over, is it Matthew's "theme of wanting the now"?

    • @miiks...5...3...9...
      @miiks...5...3...9...  Před rokem +12

      In my personal opinion I would say Alpha and Z represent two opposing ideals taken to their absolute extremes.
      Whereas Alpha could be viewed as an extremist Ouroboros, Matthew is more balanced in his approach.
      By refusing to be absorbed into Alpha, he is expressing the will of Moebius, fittingly he saved by N when he says "I'm not done" in a way what he says can also be interpreted as "I'm refusing to move on from the now". So it makes sense to have Z's theme play in this moment when N helps Matthew assert the will of Moebius, balancing out Alpha's dominating will of Ouroboros by embodying the opposing will. Alpha and Z, or Moebius and Ouroboros are kinda like Keves and Agnus, a fake duality, with the truth lying somewhere in the middle between the two.
      When N becomes Moebius there's a left and a right path in the theater screen, but once he fuses with Noah the screen reveals the true path in the middle.

    • @Sherkel
      @Sherkel Před rokem

      @@miiks...5...3...9... S's speech in chapter 5 converted me completely to Moebius's side, even after the ending, so it's good to hear it described as two sides of the same coin with Ouroboros.
      Unfortunately I can't reconcile this with the deliberately one-dimensional nature of most of the Consuls. We never got an "extreme Ouroboros" in the base game and only allegorically as Alpha.
      Is it just because Ouroboros are our player characters and they wanted us to root for them?
