I left London this past summer after living there for 3 years. I thought it would be my forever home. I left mainly because It was too expensive for what I was getting out of it (even though I could afford it). The rent was too high to justify the bad weather, bad food, high prices for basic things and everyone seemed mildly depressed. I moved to a large city in Spain and love it! I visit London every 6 months and that is perfect for me.
Sounds VERY similar to my situation!! Especially as a freelancer, my income isn't tied to living in London so staying there at the moment was quite hard to justify... there's a whole world out there to see 😁 Where in Spain are you based? Sounds amazing!
@@girlvsglobe I'm also a freelancer and a lot of Londoners and freelancers moved to Barcelona which is where I am now based.
Would *YOU* live in London? 🇬🇧 I wanna hear your thoughts!
No I'm not
I've never been to London and I probably wouldn't move there if it's too expensive. I'm kinda looking for a country/city with lower cost of living to move to in the future.
Same here! Just taking some time out and weighing up my options ☺️
Lived there many years ago in West Hampstead and Hampstead and would live there again in a heartbeat. But, yes, it is very expensive! I particularly liked it in the spring.
Ah Turnpike Lane. The memories 😄 So many good points! I lived in London for six years. It was an amazing time in my life but I don’t regret leaving. My advice to anyone considering their next steps is to explore and be honest with what fits with your values and lifestyle. Our needs definitely change with life experience and age.
I left London for my reasons as well and lived for 1.5 years in Germany... and I have never been bored like this in my life :D I had a feeling my life is on hold. I moved also because I did not want to be in my thirties in London. Being 30 and moving back seems so funny to me now. I do not regret moving out, I think I needed a break (especially after covid) and found out so much about myself. I miss London and I am moving back. I stopped saying I am moving somewhere for good because I said it 3 times already ;) I totally understand your POV and also that there is no ''wonderland'' that meets your criteria 100%. Good luck with finding a new place, there is always the possibility to change your mind and come back, if you feel like it :)
Thanks so much for sharing your perspective, that’s really helpful! I do think I might go back at some point - but for now I’m so glad I left 🥰 Hope your move back goes well ❤️
As someone who moved from the Midlands to London - spot on with the mentality side of things. Worth saying London mentality is veryyyy different to the rest of the UK - especially compared to midlands/up north! Note to tourists that London doesn’t represent the whole of the UK and there are so many other cities with a variety of cultures to explore here (that are cheaper and friendlier!)💕
100% agree with this!! I used to live in Manchester and Glasgow and they're both veryyyyy different to London, although they're both quite large British cities as well 🥰 Hope you're thriving in the Midlands Sophie!
The point about spontaneity really resonates with me. I'm terrible at planning ahead for anything social, even vacations tend to be last minute for me.
I also hate the boxes/labels. I'm me, with all my preferences, quirks, priorities, and ideological views. But those things don't need to fit in boxes prescribed by people who aren't me just so they can understand someone based on pigeon-holed preconceptions rather than actually getting to know me.
I 100% relate - I’m a v last minute person and that part of London mentality has always rubbed me the wrong way 🫠 And totally agreed, now I’m just trying to figure out who I really am without the “benefit” of all those labels
I’ve never lived in London previously and never wanted to, but after watching so many CZcamsrs on London, I regret not doing that at some time in my life. Sadly, I’m heading towards the end of my life now.
I just booked my flight home to Australia after living in London for four years! I’m excited and scared that I’ll get there and regret leaving, but I can always come back it’ll just cost loads of money and time 😂
I can really relate, and in particular, with the quote about being tired of London 😂 I don't know why this quote has so much power.
Our rent is running out in about 20 months and after that we have no idea where we go due to the rent increase and generally being a bit tired of London. All my best friends have now moved to Australia, Bali and at the end of the month another friend is moving to Peru and then Asia. It's so hard to make genuine connections with people with similar interests who love travelling food and creativity. You will be surprised another reason I want to move away is because of a shitty Internet 😅 We tried it all, because of the area we are in there aren't many options. Anything thing is that we live from salary to salary, with a struggle to save. I saved a bit last year but even though nothing has changed in our lifestyle this year I didn't managed to save anything so far. 🙈 Anyway, I am excited to see what you create and where does your journey go next. Hope to see you again soon ❤ Maybe for another foodie event ❤
Ahhh what is with that quote? 😅 Also - I totally relate to the shitty internet! So frustrating! Wishing you all the best with the decision… it’s not easy ❤️
There is a possibility that I'll move to London for my job, but I'm confusing because I'm an introverted person so I don't know if I can make it there. Nice video anyway! 👏
I have many introverted friends who like living in London so definitely wouldn’t write it off on account of that alone 🥰 So glad you liked the video!
I am an introvert, have lived in London for almost 20 years and absolutely love it here. I love the fact that everybody minds their business, I hate small talk so the fact people don’t start having conversations with me in the street/ on public transport is fantastic 😅. I don’t think people here look depressed or that the food here is not good as someone said in the comments. The food in London is fab, so many cool places to eat, so many things to do and what’s best is how cosmopolitan it is here. I just love London too much to say anything negative and I actually love Londoners too.
I think London is perfect if you’re the type of introvert who likes to be surrounded by people, but wants to be left alone and in peace. You can go out and about every day, and visit so many different neighbourhoods, without ever being bothered.
I'm from Shepherd's Bush Ladbroke Grove The best place in the world. It's expensive tho but it's Home and it raised us. Taught us to be street wise if everyone keeps moving to London it will lose its just identity it's turning into Miami especially West London. Many Brits have left.
Bwhaha I hope this is a joke Shepherd's Bush is probably the biggest shithole in Europe, it really doesn't qualify as Europe any more.
Shepsbush more like a big broken petrol station full of thugs and drunks
I watched this video after the Argentina's first impressions one and, girl, you're gonna love Buenos Aires ❤😅. Food, people, weather, everything is so good. Also plenty of things to do. Enjoy it🎉
So are you leaving the U.K. ?
I was born and have lived in London since 1986. It was a shit hole in the east end back then. But it felt like it was growing into something better. For the first time since then I feel like that's no longer the case
Ohh interesting perspective Henry, thanks for sharing! Any thoughts on why you don't feel it's growing into something better at the moment?
@@girlvsglobe How can you ask that if you lived there? Do you not see the potholes in the road, the litter everywhere, the buildings in disrepair even with trees growing out of the roof which I've never seen anywhere else in the world, walking down a street and 80% are speaking other languages than English and they are not tourists, the crazy increase in crime? Depressed people with mental health issues everywhere, homeless people everywhere. This summer the council are not even bothering to maintain my local park and it's overgrown everywhere, you have to duck below branches on the paths because they haven't trimmed the trees. It's in decline and decaying. I've been around the world and lived over 2 decades in Europe and it is not up to European standards, actually it's not up to first world standards. Did you live in a bubble when you were here?
@@simonh6371doesn't that make you a immigrant moving to Europe, you clearly are lost
@@user-mc1yd9bp5x Yes I was when I moved to each country, so what? I adhered to the local laws, customs, and spoke the language, even changing my way of speaking German in Austria, to the local dialect. There I went for months without speaking my native English, to such an extent that when phoning my mum in the UK I forgot English words and said them to her in German. I hardly ever got lost either, I was able to drive all over, to and in different countries, without GPS, and often without a map. It used to be quite normal to stop and ask people for directions if you did get lost.
@@simonh6371 even though you learnt the language doesn't meN you had to change completely
I feel like I would still try to live in London for a small time. But not permanently. 😊
Yeah I think that’s a great plan! London is amazing and I do love it 🥰❤️
Are you coming yo the US?
Not immediately but hopefully soon 🥰
weather and people drain you here. Then you barely have any energy left for the things that cost a fortune.
Maybe you were just not meant to be in one place. You have an adventurous heart so you should follow it.
I think you’re on to something… 🥰
Lovely voice👍👍👍👌👌 my beautiful
Omg i pick up so much British accent undertones in your American accent xD
I know! 😂 I’ve been in the UK for 10 years, it was bound to rub off he he
I lived in London for 2 years in the RAF mid 80s. I hated it. Too impersonal and hectic for me. Yeah I'm probably not the demographic for the vlog but I'm here.
I’m so glad you’re here! People are people, demographics don’t matter ☺️ It is very hectic, I can’t disagree with that!!
It is a very different city now, I didnt like it in the 80's
Nice video 🇮🇳 my dear friends
