Ross Taylor will probably go as the most underrated batsman of the decade. An AVG of 48 in ODI and 45+ in tests and performs in all parts of the globe.

I know right. Just wonderful. He is a proper player. The game of cricket quickened with ODI and T-20( and now The Hundred)...otherwise a cricketer of Trott's quality would have been more appreciated. In interviews I have heard him speak of the "art of batting". And in other places that his favourite batsman growing up was Michael Slater and how he tried to emulate him.

Beginning of the end of Matt Prior's England career. Had a terrible summer of 2013 and a horrible Ashes tour in 2013/14. Eventually quit international cricket in 2014. Leading up to this game, he had a terrific 4-5 years.

This series came a year too soon for NZ. KW not quite there yet, Latham yet to debut and Wagner hadn’t yet learned that pitching it up is for suckers. You can still see signs of the team they’d become though
And some weak/inconsistent batsman such as Rutherford, Fulton, and Brownlie. Brownlie was a strange case - he was great in his 2 matches against Australia, but didn't do much else.

England won the (very high scoring)ODI series 3-2.
Not exactly bad results overall, particularly considering England were playing at home.
From & including 2015 to now that was the only drawn series, NZ won 3 series, England 1 series.
England team management has always been crazy. Root and Bairstow at 5 and 6. Why????
Probably because you have Trott and Bell at 3 and 4 respectively? Both averaged over 40 in their test careers so why change things up for some inexperienced players finding their feet? Also Trott/Bell were at the peak of their powers around that time. Bell hit 3 centuries and won man of the series in that year's ashes
Both Root and Bairstow debuted in 2012 and had barely had a year in the England test team
Edit: Although i admit the 2013/14 ashes was the beginning of the end of Bell/Trott's test careers
