RE: QOTD - WhatCulture seemingly also overlooks KoRn frontman Jonathan Davis’ soundtrack on that movie which to this day is revered by Goths and Metal fans alike. Not to mention the way in which Davis’ vocals in the performance segments perfectly complement Stuart Townshend’s physical performance and overall look.
Oh, and Davis also has a small cameo in the concert scene as a ticket scalper outside the venue.

Critics are worthless and objectively untrustworthy. It's obvious that they're paid for reviews by the studios. Then there's the contrarians that actively hate anything popular just because it's popular. The numbers speak for themselves, most film on this list has very dedicated fans even after decades yet you'll still see people trying to say "it's not good" or "it's only liked because" and have flimsy arguments that don't change that hundreds of thousands of people still love the movies.

I found Fallen to be more of a solid thriller, than a horror film. I remember enjoying it in the theater; and I recently rewatched the film on dvd. 🙂🙂
Sure, it had a supernatural/religious element to it; but it was still a great film. 🤔🤔
I agree with Ellie that Fallen is one of Denzel Washington's more underrated movies. 🤔🙂
Also, The Covenant seems to have a strange obsession with me. I've never seen it (for as long as I can remember, the film seemed like a gender-swapped version of The Craft to me 🤔🤔); but everytime I go into a store which sells dvds and/or blu-rays; I'll be browsing the shelves, and sure enough, The Covenant pops out at me. It's like the film wants me to watch it. 🤔🤔
I know, I know, that sounds weird; but here we are. 😜🤪🤣

Underworld is one of my mother's favorite movies and House of 1000 Corpses was adored by my best friend. I'm way more critical of horror movies because it's the story, not the genre that attracts me though. I remember nothing about Stigmata except for that quote about the kingdom of God that was actually life changing for me. It was a light bulb moment that let me release my guilt about rejecting organized religion.

If Tubi has taught me anything it would be to ignore the IMDB rating. So many movies which have good icons and descriptions will have 3-5.0 ratings. Yet I will thoroughly enjoy the storylines and the acting. Are they masterpieces? No. But they don't have to be. They just don't have to be a waste of time. And the majority of these low rated movies were well worth the time spent.

Stay Alive was one of the most fun horror/slasher movies from the 2000s, at least to me. The problem was, like horror movies in the past, it got butchered in editing, leaving out an entire segment detailing who made the game and why it exists, as well as more gore to the deaths. It also reminded me of a more sadistic take on Jumanji and Zathura at the time, but with a video game instead of a board game.

Underworld, to this day, has one of the best supernatural worlds; it does not go into a "sent from hell itself" trope but rather for the biological setup and stablishes their abilities and weaknesses clearly. It works, uses practical effects, and has a lot of style. As a product of the 2000's, you cannot expect more. It has blood and passable edginess. Works for anyone.

Personally, I never look at what critics say no matter the genre. Too many times have I thoroughly enjoyed a movie that they panned. Many seem to have certain criteria they look for no matter what even if those criteria don't fit the genre or style of the movie. I've also seen reviews from critics that you can tell right off the bat that there was no way they were going to like the movie no matter how good it was because of personal bias or opinions.

I feelike the covenant suffered from being perceived as for teenaged girls. It was campy and ran on fan service, but that was the point.
Gratuitous shower scenes and antagonistic homoerotic tension for example? I feel like would be given a lot more leeway if it was an all female cast for people to drool over. It knew what kind of movie it was, the marketing was obvious. so i don't buy the excuse that people were ordering burgers and expecting a steak dinner.
Given that it was aimed towards a different audience is probably why it got labeled as cringe rather than camp.
