Dan, if you walk around the Chow Kit area or downtown look out for signs that say KARI KEPALA IKAN (fish head curry) on the signage, usually indian muslim restaurants /warungs will have the Fish Head dish. Ask for the price first as it depends on the size.
When I go to Mamak for nasi kandar my choice always be the mutton curry(lamb or mutton shank), quail & quail's eggs and a pack of appalam/papadom. Marvelicious!
The rule of thumb for sauce when you eat nasi kandar is you have to have the black chicken sauce along with other curry sauce because that is the classic dish for nasi kandar , the black curry chicken…for veggies is boiled long okra and green long pepper..and you can choose either the omelette egg or boiled egg or salted egg…and nasi puteh instead of beriyani…other mix varieties are just according to preference…Just sharing..anyway, enjoy!

The original the HQ, the 1st pelita is here at Butterworth. Been 30 years? or more since they started and i remember those days im still a teenager Pelita nasi kandar was the thing here. Even today business is good, people still queue up for their nasi kandar and some even come from far to eat here at Butterworth.
Pelita is a good place to try for foreigners. Dan and Anna already tried different kandar places even the kandar melayu so i believe they already know if its good or not.

You can get 30-40 ringgit fish head curry in KL but not at this kind of restaurant…you can find it at a small or medium indian muslim or malay warung.
