We headed to one of the most famous and possibly the best Nasi Kandar restaurants in Malaysia for our first time trying Nasi Kandar with a local in Kuala Lumpur. Nasi Kandar Pelita is a very popular place with the locals to grab lunch and since it was approved and recommended by our Malaysian friend, we couldn't resist heading here for some wonderful Malay - Indian style Mamak food. This has got to be some of the best Malaysian food we have tried so far...

A bit of correction:
Local avoid prawn, crab, squid on such place not because it is not fresh. It is still good, more or less like you get from frozen seafood quality.
Most of the time we avoid it because of the PRICE. It is way too expensive compare to the "freshness" quality. Who want a RM40+ for a plain white rice and a single humongous squid? I wil rather eat 40 roti canais with that price.
This is the more precise reason.
If you have the money.. why not. The curry blend of seafood is another level of taste! Splendid. RM40 for seafood curry is cheap compared RM300 in Europe per plate. KL is haven.
Those seafood usually have funny taste because they have been sitting there for a long time
Donât think the local guide is very good. His understanding and knowledges questionable
@@flahmadzaki2172
Once in a blue moon, yes, we would eat that. But we as local, we prefer to eat lot of food rather than expensive food đ
@Siew Yong Li
Depend on timing and restaurant/franchise. Most of the time, I got a good one, but I myself rarely eat those thing because of the price. Crab maybe spoil fast. Squid will get chewy but still good on taste. Prawn retain the taste.
00:40 that is a bird actually, a non flying type of bird. we call it "burung puyuh", or in English you call it "quail". it's not a baby chicken đ . Quail meat are rarely used in any chinese dish, except for their egg. (the small egg - quail egg) which is more commonly known in any dish around south east Asia. I guess the guy never eat quail meat before, but it is common dish in Malay cooking.
Pelita ok.. But in KL, I prefer Restoran Kudu at Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman for Nasi Kandar..
Olivia should ask for "half rice" when eating nasi campur / nasi kandar đ
Olivia, u can ask for less rice when u order. just say "nasi separuh" (half portion of rice)
It is not small chicken. It is probably quails or Burung Puyuh.
That dude really don't know his food đ
I hope you can reply to my comment and would like to treat you with a better restaurant.
There are much better and cheaper Nasi Kandar in the Klang Valley area. Nasi Kandar Pelita is definitely not one of them. Their seafood is also not fresh, sometimes it is leftovers from the day before. I would recommend the following eateries:
1. Nasi Lemak Royale, Ayer 8, Putrajaya
2. Sithique Nasi Kandar, Jalan TAR, KL
3. Nasi Kandar Melayu, Setiawangsa
4. Sadam Nasi Kandar, Segambut
5. Mahbub Restaurant, Bangsar
6. Nasi Kandar Basikal, Puncak Jalil
Thanks so much for the recommendations. You can always message us on FB or insta :)
Always support u guyss!.. Respect to brother Joseph đČđŸđČđŸđČđŸ
thanks man!

Nasi kandar is Indian Muslim style mix rice. We also have salad but we call ulam and we eat with sambal belacan, budu, tempoyak and cencaluk.
Malay authentic salads called rojak..kerabu..ulam..pecal..acar timun nenas.. etc only can be found in Malay food stalls and restaurants..
Finally you tasted nasi kandar. And I was just waiting when you and Olivia will do it! Good job bro Joseph, you are the man!
Thanks Jimmy!
Malay got their own salad called 'jelatah', typically comprises of pineapple, cucumber, sweet turnip, chili & onion. Not much stalls selling it. Usually they serve it with biriyani during wedding feast.
All I wanna say is, I love you guys journey and adventure here in Malaysia. Pls pls plsss stay a little longer đđ»
glad you like the videos, we will be going back and forth between countries
What's your favourite Nasi Kandar?

Nasi Kandar originates from Penang. The curries are a mix of Malay and Indian flavours as the Mamaks who sell Nasi Kandars are Indian Muslims. If you have tasted Indian curries (banana leaf restaurants), you would notice it is different from Malay curries (found in warungs in Kampung Baru) and the Nasi Kandar is like a marriage of both. If you happen to go to Chinese restaurants, try the Chinese style curries, they taste different too.
Thanks for the info đ
if you like potato dishes we have a few thats good, bergedil , kuih keria to name a few.. karipap is like a curry pastry with potato curry.
Nasi kandar mainly very popular at north malaysia, back then we just eat nasi kandar at Penang, Perak, Kedah or Perlis.
Normally its made from Indian muslim or we called mamak, but now days we can taste nasi kandar in Malay version because their is a difference between Malay curry and mamak curry, malaysian can spot it very quickly
But mamak curry and Indian curry quite similar
Basic raw vege for nasi kandar its was green chilies and lady finger
Restaurant pelita is not mamak restaurant its was a Indian restaurant, we malaysian know price there quite pricey
I will get some link to you to having really
nasi kandar mamak
Nasi kandar Malay
In Km
I will rekomen to you to you the best dish normally we eat
1. Ask for KUAH BANJIR, means they will mix at lease 3 to 7 type of curry for the gravy
2. Side dish must be, salted duck egg, green chilies and boils lady finger and boil chicken egg. So every nasi kandar must have these basic ingredients in every nasi kandar.
3, normally we add fried chicken or other fried dish like fish or meat
4. Beside fried chicken, ayam masak merah ( spicy chicken with red chilies), ayam kicap ( chicken with soy sauce ), ayam madu ( chicken with honey ) , ayam bawang ( chicken with onion)
And last chicken curry
5. Daging masak hitam ( beef work black soy sauce ) this is the best
6. Other type of curry, chicken, seafood and lamb even lamb shank - just beware when you having seafood and lamb shank because its quite pricy - its can be rm100 in one plate
That why basically we having chicken or beef

Looking forward to your next video Mario.
Hey guys hope your good weâre not far away maybe see you around đ
Try find Malay food 'Bubur Lambuk' (it a rice porridge with huge flavor). If you can find 'Lemang' (sticky rice in Bamboo) with Rendang Daging, you're lucky to taste it.
Honestly.. RM76 is quite pricy. But Malaysian will happy and never regret to pay it for their guest.
Agreed
Its stated in english and Malay. And price tag has been displayed. Its not about pricey. If feels pricey. Then dont eat out. Cook at home. Buy your own things and cook. See how much will cost you man đ will cost you more then that for 3 person.

The thing about the general term 'Curry' when non-Malaysian refers to are actually consist of varieties here in Malaysia. Malays have theirs, so does Indians and Chinese too. But it all boils down too the added ingredients when making it. Needless to say, even locals sometimes can't distinguish which is which :) But the most important thing is, all of them taste sooooo goood đ
Kebanyakan makanan Malasia dipengaruhi budaya Asing termasuk budaya lokal asli Indonesia đ„°đźđ©

Dont think NK Pelita appreciates when you criticize that their seafood is not too freshed. They cook every hour due to high traffic demand. Its fresh. Its definitely not yesterday's leftovers.
Restaurant kudu bin abdul. Try it.
Sedap, the best in town đ
@@FitriRashid i never like pelita. Expensive and not so nice food.
Olivia should ask for 'nasi separuh' next time (half portion of rice), so you can finish your meal.

Mario, if u like potatoes u must try local favorite potatoes dish called 'begedil'...You can get it at some Malay n mamak restaurant, Nasi Lemak Wanjo at Kampung Baru sell it
Thanks for the tip! Looking forward to try
Yay first
Fried sweet potato vegetables are less bitter.
I like potatoes too
NASI KANDAR SEDAP đđđ
In Malay its called peria-bitter gourd.
Respect you joseph
You picked the right restaurant.
In Malaysia, we are less into salad and more into our original ULAM..
More videos needed from Thailand đ„
The best nasi kandar obviously in Kedah, its the mother off all nasi kandarđ
The little bird is called 'burung puyuh' taste similar to a chicken of course but usually the meat is tougher
Kan... The local guide has limited knowledge on mamak food đ
đ. Always follow your videos
thanks bro!
Good job Joseph! đđ» Way to go! đ§Ÿđđšđš
Yoi have to try Saddam Nasi Kandar or Kudu Nasi Kandar.
I prefer nasi kandar zainul near the A & w building or near amcorp mall at PJ. Anyone tried it? The curry has an really spicy taste compare to pelita where curry is a bit diluted and sweet
You guys should try Banana Leaf!
Wow. It's great to explore any place with the local hanging around with you. This place looks a paradise for the foodies. . Nice vlog đ
Thank you!
i like your channel dont forget to melaka back , i will bring you explore whole of melaka
I am in KL as well, would love to meet you guys.
Nasi lemak is a original malay dish serve with bananan leaf..sambal..peanut..boiled egg and anchovice.....Salad normaly at malay rest..the call nasi ulam..there are rest in my place the call "nasi ulam cikgu" you can search in youtube...Mamak is India muslim..not india hindu..but now not rest mamak are from orginal from india muslim..Mamak rest are little bit expensive than a malay rest..exspecially when you take..beef..lamb or squid..
Pelita restaurant is really pricey and especially if you eat seafood like prawn, crabs and squids @ cuttlefish!!!đđ€·
the "aiya"đ€Ł
Cruel. I am drooling.
I think many of comments will be , Mamak = Indian Muslim , Malay = Malay Muslim.. and sometimes the cuisine/food/drinks will seat-in-between these 2 races/cultures.
Mario never let go the potato đ
You guys should visit East Malaysia as well.
we will at some point!
Nice đ
makan kat sitihque atau saddam
The small bird/chicken is not a chicken.. its a quail.. or in Malay they called it puyuh..
Kedondong is hog plum
Nasi kandar is Indian sold by Indian Muslims called "mamak" which means uncle. Kandar is a Tamil India word, it is a wood you put over your shoulder to carry food in a pots on both ends filled with food to sell in olden days like food peddlers.
Thanks for the info!
I just realized, mario has beautiful eyes.
It's pretty pricey.... Oh, it's Pelita. No wonder huhu
I'm doa to Allah,for our Brother's Joseph,to travel sukses...
Nice
oh my ! call himself a local doesn't he know PELITA is a mamak ( Indian muslim) restaurant?
u can be my buddy, potato & cabbage also my things... maybe i'm also a lithuanian in my past life. lol.
enjoy!
I actually prefer NZ Curry House over Pelita when it comes to Nasi Kandar and even their roti.
Agree that
Biasanya Makanan Budaya Malasia itu banyak mengadopsi Makanan Budaya Nusantara Indonesia.. apalagi Nasi lemak dan Nasi Kandar ini campuran bahan-bahannya mirip dengan bumbu Indonesia.

That small chicken is quail. And you get the whole bird.
Balik ke negara asal mana nak cari nasi kandar...
I think you befriend a wrong Malaysian. Pelita is not a bad place but if you want better Nasi kandar in KL, you should go to Kudu Abdul, Yaseem or Ibramsha. They're all more authentic and similar to Penang style nasi kandar and all located in the same street, Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman.
In North side we call asam ko not asam boyđđ
I thought asam girl
its probably a quail not a baby chicken lol

Nasi kandar are synonymous with mamak or Indian Muslim. Pelita is not Indian Muslim owned. It is a Hindu or Indian restaurant selling Indian Muslim food.
