  • Working with Sonny & Cher was so much fun. Number one, because they were just nice people. Number two, because the band was unbelievable - all studio guys, but the core was Don Peake, Mike Rubini, Lyle Ritz, Bob West, Barney Kessel, David Cohen, Mac Rebennack (Dr. John) and the cream of the crop Wrecking Crew guys rotating to fill the band out. One of my big influences as an arranger was the leader of this group, a man by the name of Harold Batiste - one of the senior members of the legendary New Orleans musician family Batiste. Harold was such a perfect role model for me to copy in the way that he led musicians: kindness, encouragement, and respect.
