That scene where the Witness shows his wrath to Calus was absolutely the BEST cutscene in the entire campaign. I also love the fact that you can tell that most of the conversations with Calus are in a sort of dream state which is really cool.
Yup it shows just how powerful this being is. And that’s just a fraction of what it’s capable of.
It makes sense, the Darkness is of the Mind as we now know. I've been wondering for awhile now if the Witness is even a physical being at all or if it is more of an intense psychic projection or a sort of confluence, a concentration of psychic energies.
But if we never get to see what he saw, it will be criminal. Witness better show us that same rage in Final Shape.
This almost confirms that the witness will have a different form in the new raid.
Fun fact, the witness is over 100 feet tall in his physical form!

I don’t think so, in the cutscenes he was just a bit taller than Calus was.
at most he’s 50 feet tall, I think he’s closer to around 40 given our height compared to calus, then calus compared to the witness
8:43 Interesting touch, here. The Witness says "You will see the Veil destroyed.", but as we learn from the ending of Lightfall and later, Asha's cutscene, the Witness never wanted to destroy the Veil, it wanted to link it with the Traveler. The Witness intentionally used Calus as a pawn to get the Young Wolf and their Ghost to go to the Veil, so the Witness could use Ghost to establish the link.
The witness wanted the veil destroyed because its the key to the travelers portal. He knew we would find a way to track him if the veil stayed there. He ea ted calus to make the link then destroy, just portrayed oddly
Actually it says just that. It says link the radial mast to the Veil then destroy it. Maybe because the veil doesn't get destroyed that is how we can win
@@Jeremy-yy1ukthis is just wrong, we’ve known for years that the witness can control our ghosts and speak through them, very clearly by how it went the witness intentionally allowed us to see this exchange so we would get our ghost close to the veil. The ghost being a creation of the traveler and made of light it was used to make the connection the witness has needed. This is literally confirmed from season of the deep
The Witness said to Destroy, because it would make the guardian rush to save the veil, by having the guardian there at the veil, our ghost would be entranced by the energy, creating the link
Likely a trap. We never accidentally seen this conversation. The witness meant for us t hear it knowing it would make us rush to the veil. Calus didn’t need to win here. He just had to draw us towards it. Once we were there all we had to do is kill the former emperor leaving him dead and our ghost close enough to make the link it needed
Writing error, actually
Biggest problem with this campaign is pacing. Forget how confusing it is, we jump into this thinking we have one shot at this and we have to hurry up, but then the Witness shows up and just looks at the traveler. Then, we need to get to the Veil before Calus, and then we head to watch tower and just talk. Then Calus finds the Veil, but he doesn’t actually have it. Then we need to destroy the radial mast before he uses it and we do… and that’s it. Then we have to go back to the veil and then we kill Calus and that’s it. Then our ghost does the Witness’ dirty work for it.
Don't forget nimbus wanting a fist bump (and the animators having the audacity to force our guardian into it) immediately after Caiatl witnesses her dead father, followed by nimbus not acting sooner
Not to mention that although Osiris made it crystal clear that above all else we had to prevent the enemy from getting the veil (which by the way no one knew what it was back then, not even Osiris nor the cloud striders), not a single guardian was sent by the Vanguard, like, what in the ass. The entire army of Guardians was just chilling back on Earth waiting for the Witness to do something and in the meantime, there were 1 Guardian, 2 cloud striders, 1 decrepit old man without powers, and some Cabal sent by Caiatl fighting for the fate of the freaking universe in Neptune and not a single move from the Vanguard, that's just lazy writing. Had we just been accompanied by someone like Ikora the Witness would have had to personally go and take the Veil, and the outcome still would have been the same, but at the very least it wouldn't feel like we literally surrendered the one thing that would allow the Witness to reshape the Universe without even so much as putting up a fight.

The witness is actually voiced by Bret Dalton. Admittedly there’s a few other people mixed in there….but I can still hear Bret in there….and he’s doing an amazing job! The Witness is easily destiny’s best villain

Fun little detail, you can actually see where bungie inserted lightfall into the cutscene. The opening attack of the witness has the helm bring up a blast shield which is only shown to go back down after the ENTIRE dlc. They’d have us believe that the helm was just sitting there the entire time with the shield up not doing anything while we trounced around on Neptune. Logically, it would’ve made more sense for them to only put the shield up then drop it after the attack, where the witness would then go through the portal, kicking off final shape. However, due to their poor planning, they had to somehow insert an entire dlc story into that tiny cutscene

What's really eerie about the witness is... For some reason i Don get the uncanny valley feel from it (maybe it's just me). It's alien enough not to feel like it's human even though it's face, and its figure is really close to that of a human. It just looks like a weird entity...
It's very interesting that the Witness is EASILY the most humanoid alien creature devised by Bungie thus far in terms of sheer appearance/morphology... and from a studio whose scifi narratives (Halo and Destiny specifically) have been about wildly differing sentient species coming together on common ground and settling differences... what does the Witness' design say about humanity?

One thing is made clear though with the campaign, even for the pacing--- the Witness, even for its god-like powers, is afraid, because it seems to want the Final Shape to occur to end death itself by allowing only the strongest who overcome all obstacles in their lives to live forever, because it just has this nihilistic belief that life is nothing but pain, and yet it only keeps spreading pain and destruction in its ambitions. And it's abused the Darkness for that goal, not having proper balance like our Guardians have since we wield both Light and Darkness without any ill effects besides the power of our will. And we've seen too how the Witness has had to lie, manipulate, abuse, and threaten those to serve it or those that defy it, because for all its power, it is just a coward who can't work past pain. As Rohan told Osiris, pain isn't a hinderance. It just reminds us we're still alive. Still fighting. But the way the Witness acts, whatever pain it suffered before its metamorphosis into the monster it is now broke it, and now it is just a dangerous being threatening the natural order of the universe.
Well spoked👏🏻 the witness is just a big bunch of nihilists who got everything what they wanted but they are just spoiled and maybe shocked what the light can do and angry because he never spoked to them. The Witness is the real reason why we - the Guardians exist. We are the real counterpart to the witness...

Plus even the spoilers for this season show how nihilistic the Witness became when its people witnessed the Darkness, and failed to think about how Light and Darkness are both needed, and how it's only reliant on the Darkness, while we as Guardians use both the Light _AND_ the Darkness very well. Even if we don't know the why behind it, we still can use it to protect the Traveler, everyone in the universe, and more that the Witness and its forces threaten.

That was the promise of the darkness. That sometime the whole race had enough from light and will seek the truth in the final shape. @@Seeker_420 Yeah, exactly. All because the Witness and its people couldn't handle the fact they lacked purpose due to how they misunderstood the Traveler and its gifts, and didn't try to do more. We saw how when mankind first met the Traveler, even as it helped terraform the rest of Sol, humanity began to expand even further, growing in technology and science, allowing us to colonize Mars, Venus, and the rest of the planets in the system, while also allowing us to go beyond Earth before the Witness would come to Earth and try to link with the Traveler during the first Collapse. Even the Eliksni expanded their reach beyond just Riis after they were touched by the Traveler, even if they also had depended on it a good bit too, just as the Witness and its people had clinged too much onto it, while humanity wanted to understand the Traveler, *BUT* also wanted to see more of what they could research thanks to its gifts.
At the same token, it truly does seem benevolent towards it’s followers, in its own twisted way. It schools Rhulk essentially as a little Witness junior, builds a statue to Nezzy facilitating his resurrection by the traveler, and genuinely seems to want to provide Calus with purpose and uplift him. It was quite patient with Calus before he disrespected it. Such an interesting villain as it believes it is in the right and is acting for the good of all life, not just itself.
After looking at what little expression The Witness was making after watching the 6:55 scene on my Warlock (I watched it on my Titan and Hunter but never went further) I relayed to my other two brothers that The Witness almost looked disappointed at Calus for not taking this Disciple stuff somewhat seriously. I then said “I get the feeling Calus is going to do something stupid and The Witness isn’t going to be too happy about it”.
Then 12:30 happens and the second The Witness snapped I thought to myself “Calus, there are strings that you are not meant to pull. That was one of them”. I then relayed to my brothers saying “Yup, I called it”.
It was right in front of us this whole time. From the depiction of multiple hands at 0:16 to the faces of the race that sacrificed themselves to become The Witness at 1:14.
I was trashing Lightfall's story because of how much certain things didn't make sense or was explained so I am really looking forward to Final Shape cs gawd damn, it was more planned than I thought.

A wild river and a broken dam (or maybe it's just the sea crashing through a narrow gap I can't be sure). Waves slam through the gap and where they hit the stone they throw up pillars of spray that pierce the mist and crash down in thunder. There's a giant in the cataract, trying to wade against the current, and I can tell it wants to reach the lever and pull the lever which will seal off the flow or maybe give it the sword, but the torrent throws it back so it just keeps its head down and tries to push on. I can't see the face but it breathes out white smoke. I feel for it hard.
A world painted around the interior like a stranger Earth everted and glued inside itself but I don't believe this one it's too much like a metaphor.
A switchboard or a train station, empty, dead (waiting). The tunnels branch off into infinity. I stare down one for a long time and see a pale worm move in hungry coils around itself. I think this one is the most likely although I might have brought the worm.
An egg but I'm not sure if the broth inside is warm still, or if it's gone to rot, or if the warmth comes from the struggles of the tiny winged zygote or the bleed from the wound or the thoughts of something thinking very hard.

We count on stars as steady friends because they always rise and always shine but a star's a delicate truce: an explosion caught by its own mass so that it can't erupt and can't collapse. Thus I imagine the state of the machine might be. But one force or another has gone awry and now it rests here, snuffed and broken, waiting for the two rival forms of ruin to be set in balance again.
11:22, after seeing this part again, I feel as if the emperor was spitting a little bit of fact to the witness that made him lash out, so whatever that last sentence the emperor could have said, I'm sure the witness would have killed him on the spot
We see what the Witness does to two Guardians and their ghosts with just two small hand movements. Yeah, Calus was one sentence away from being wiped from existence

Yes, people *_loved_* to hate on _Thor: The Dark World_ but when that movie first came out it was *friggin awesome* and featured an end that reminded the audience 'Hey remember that purple guy who appeared during the mid credits of _The Avengers?_ *_Watch this space_* because shits about to get AWESOME!!!'
Compounded with such hits the likes of _Captain America: The Winter Soldier_ and the first _Guardians of the Galaxy_ movie not to mention the *_rather mighty_* initial Phase 3 announcement and I mean...yea.
There was a genuine sense that the MCU was going to build up to something incredibly cosmic and *_cataclysmicly AWESOME_* which indeed said shared cinematic universe delivered with Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.
Those films were genuine events, the first of which we had seen since the likes of the _Lord of the Rings_ trilogy and the Matrix sequels back in the early 2000s.
Nevertheless, Infinity War and Endgame came and went...and I don't know about you but the MCU is kind of feeling pretty darn *flat* these days.

I'm going to be honest, if you look at Lightfall with the witness's final goal to be to use Calus to lure us to the veil, it holds together a lot better.

After hearing what the witness says at the end of the video that where all victims and so is the traveler do you think the witness is doing this cause where all victims or do you think he’s just a baddy that wants everything for him self To perfect the universe
Really only solid part of this expansion is these cutscenes. The Witness is such a cool villain. Shame the story wasn’t what we expected but hopefully the final shape goes hard.

I’m glad they cleared up that the Traveler was *not* trying to flee when it rose from the City. It was indeed preparing to face the witness once and for all. The witness said itself at the end of which queen that this time there would be no escape and the only reason it did the first time was due to trickery. When it rose from the city the black fleet was already halfway through the solar system, if the traveler was actually going to flee it would have done it long before that day.
Seems like the witness subjugated calus very quickly
Given how it *NEEDS* control and demands it, it makes sense the Witness was able to do that, while Calus was mad it would assume he failed when they failed to anticipate what the Guardians could awakening Strand, even if it was at a time we couldn't fully control because we didn't go with the flow.
First of all: i was very hyped for the witness in the lightfall campaign and i was very to fighting him bcs the cutscenes showed this. Then BUUUM nothing and he's disappeared but holy shit i love the Witness so much.
I mean he's the coolest villain in the hole destiny history and I'm very sure we're need to switching our mind.

Palpatine and The Witness are my too favorite villains at the moment. Both have a black cloak and command a fleet of triangular ships with an apprentice. But if we're comparing power the only person from the Star Wars universe that could compare to the Witness would be Abeloth from Legends.

It's pretty obvious that the Lightfall campain was just spliced into whatever they had originally planned for Lightfall. If you go from 4:45 to 13:05 the scenes flow flawlessly together. They just thought of a place holder and decided on the stupid Neomuna campaign focussing on Strand. This campaign was such a let down. They took one of the best final season cinematics with Seraph, which built up the tension so well. Then they interupt all that so you can go to Neomuna and have Nimbus taking the whole seriousness of the situation away and cracking jokes the entire time that are stupid. All while Osiris is shouting at you while sitting back and twidling his thumbs doing fuck all.
It doesnt look like it flows together to me. Witness tried to open the portal and failed. Or, it knows that it needs to 'contact' traveler to know of the veil location. So that means Theres more and that scene isnt side by side.
@@MICROKNIGHT3000They clearly added the "failed to open the portal" part. Like 5 extra seconds of oh he couldn't do it without the veil. The original roadmap for the light dark saga was supposed to be three expansions. Lightfall was supposed to be the final one. But then Sony bought Bungie and they wanted an extra expansion. Clip out the fails to open portal part and go to 13:05 and its a flawless transition.

Nobody can make sense of the fact this campaign starts with Zavala, Ikora, Osiris, Mara and THE STRANGER, all magically together in a ship without explanation of why, they just stood there....Osiris left to Neptune, we left as well to help him....at the end we come back to see the rest of the group still in the ship... opened the window and the witness was still there....this campaign felt like it was part of The Final Shape and Bungie realized they could split it in 2 and get more money out of it.
They didn't split the campaign to make money out of it, they split the campaign due to time crunch. They had no choice to do this. And now they had way more time to work on Final Shape to make it bigger and better than it would have been.

tormentors/strand/nezarec and these cut up cutscenes involving the witness are the only good things that came out of this "expansion" even though strand was meant for witch queen
So like.. they clearly have the ability to go warp speed or whatever, yet it took them years to get to Earth.
When the witness is with Calus the whole shatter effect around them is The Witness talking to him in his mind. The pyramid fleet was WAY outside our galaxy of course it would take them years to get here.

Like as cool as what the witness is and the interactions between it and calus is, the campaign is bullshit.
The stranger has never made it this far in any of the other timelines, as we've lost and all died in every other timeline before we even knew neomuna existed. So she wouldnt know about anything in lightfall, shes flying blind like the rest of us

Calus should’ve been a raid like we should’ve gotten a day 1 raid then have root of nightmares be a sequel to it showing Nezarc actually coming back to life like a season leading to it idk maybe I’m asking for too much but Lightfall was really rushed and the seasons were hit and misses at points for me

The Witness would’ve been more threatening if Bungie would’ve made his eyes smaller and gotten rid of the unibrow and maybe have a black mist come from his eyes but as is, he just looks like a Pixar villain.

It's not a unibrow. It's a facial graft/tattoo, not hair. You don't know the meaning behind the word threatening if you think big eyes are goofy looking. It's meant to convey a sort of ephemeral ambivalence, like a black hole. Which is what you'd be staring into, were you to come face to face with such a being.
