- Rasputin sacrifices himself to save humanity. This is his final moment in Destiny 2. Ana Bray helps him, and she is devastated. Eramis wants to destroy the Traveler or cause it to leave. The Travel decides to stay. The Witness then moves his fleet closer to Earth. This is the final cutscene in Season Of The Seraph in Destiny 2. You have to have the Final Dawn Quest to see the cutscene. This is Rasputin's Death Scene in Destiny 2. (Rasputin you will be missed)

The cinematography in this cutscene is masterful. To have The Traveler’s departure into orbit recreate the promo art we saw waaaayyy back in 2013…that got me, ngl.

And then standing shoulder to shoulder with eliksni, watching the traveler leave.
The eliksni know what's happening. Its happened before in their history. Now they have to watch it happen again, this time to people who never experienced it.
this was really powerful
I find it very hard to actually fault Eramis and some of the other great houses for hating the Traveller. It did nothing less than betray their trust and leave them for dead, only for them to find it again decades later over a new race to play Civilization with. We aren't fighting humanity's enemies, we're fighting all the people the Traveller pissed off during its time.
I love how this basically answered... why did the Traveler choose Felwinter? Why did a ghost revive a machine? Felwinter wasn't a exo with a human mind inside. He was a full on machine created by Rasputin for the purpose of exploring the new world. Well one could say that the Traveler saw the humanity within Rasputin. Behind the "tyrant" was ultimately something that would willingly die to protect others.
I don’t think Rasputin had any impact on the traveler staying. Again they stated the Warsats if fired on the traveler would completely annihilate the last city in the fallout. The traveler moved to spare the city from the crossfire that’s why and to confront the witness

How is it that the previous season had a more weight-full and emotionally impactful story than anything that happened in the Lightfall expansion?!
Because it was designated filler expansion made with minimal effort. All their actual resources probably went to the seasons of lightfall and final shape. Lightfall was just a strand tutorial.
Because it's based around and solely relies on a character who existed since destiny's inception.

This might be overlooked but, I love how after the traveler ascends to the sky the cutscene rotates and reveals what we all saw in the wallpaper of Destiny 1: The traveler high above the earth (the original wallpaper of the original game)
Well, Bungie killed off one of their most mysterious and badass characters imo.

It sucked because they finally developed him that season to the point of becoming an actual helpful and cool side character that could help defend earth and then Bungie just straight up removes him from the game by the end of season
@@phatdog I don't think lore wise it was going to be possible to keep him alive without creating serious lore issues. Though, I do think he will be brought back in some way. Maybe not in the same way or the same Rasputin we know and love.

@@johnderat2652 Basically Eramis is the fallen under the Witness and she gained control of Rasputin's warsats that could be used to destroy the Traveler. Rasputin had himself be sacrificed so the warsats couldn't be used to destroy the Traveler because that would cripple humanity against their fight against the witness.

Ive always thought that the traveler puposely had earth and humanity as its last stop before it confronted the witness because it somehow knew that we could and would make the final stand with it against the darkness and defeat it! And just look at how many of our former enemies stand with us in this noble endevour! It had nowhere else to go because it simply didn't need to run/go anywhere else. I also cant help but think that the traveler is luring the witness into a trap.....despite how all powerful the witness seems to be he/she/they sure seem to need an aweful lot of help getting much of anything done doesn't it? I mean despite all of its efforts it never did truly aquire the veil and only was able to open a link using a ghost, which then allowed it access

Somehow, she was able to break out of the ice. If we finished things in Beyond Light instead of leaving her there, NONE of this would have happened. Rasputin and Amanda Holiday both would still be here.
We killed Oryx in his ship and in his Throne World in D1, and we massacred the Black Heart. We physically killed Ghaul and the Traveler revoked his Light pass (I still hold that ad D2 canon). We even killed Panoptes in The Curse of Osiris and Zol in Warmind. Why can't we go back to KILLING our enemies?

Man...this was a great cutscene, but I can't help but feel robbed. The whole point of the season of the seraph was to bring Rasputin back. Then it just ends with him dying again, permanently, because god forbid now that he actually has a way of speaking to us, he gets some good character development.
Like, the season of the seraph just feels pointless by all of this, only now we lost the warsats, so we're even more screwed when the Witness comes knocking.
I feel that was the point

We’re in the stages of the story arc where we’ve been suffering nothing but loss, we’re losing ground on the witness

It’s even more bad when you consider Rasputin has ALL of humanity’s culture pre and during the golden age. If he survived he could have told the last city their ancestors actions and legacies. And poor Ana, she was undoubtedly a mother figure in her first life to him, in her second she searched for him unknowingly and awakened him, and in the end she will feel like she’s the one who pulled the trigger of the gun that killed him.

It just occurred to me. The Witness wanted Rasputin out of the picture. Why would it want the Traveler destroyed? It's needed for the Final Shape, destroying holds no purpose. It needed Rasputin out of the way so that his weapons wouldn't be turned against the Shadow Legion. The pyramids are immune to Rasputin, but it's minions are not.
This was never about the traveler being destroyed. The Witness knew it was gonna happen this way. It was a win either way. Rasputin is gone, or it damages the Traveler with its own protected people.
Although rasputin very well could become a guardian due to his actions here (also his son felwinter was able to become a guardian) I don’t think that light and bulb noise is of a ghost resurrecting him. It doesn’t sound like it.

It was here with this act of Bravery, Mercy & Sacrifice that the Traveler chose humanity to be its Champions and remain.

To be fair, all this time Eramis thought the Traveler would leave and was trying to stop it from abandoning another solar system. Eramis will 100% pull a Darth Vader and betray the Witness.

the last destiny cutscene that made me feel anything
This has no meaning for me because I stopped playing so long ago. For me, Rasputin never dies. I stopped playing D2 when they started removing DLC that I and many others paid for. I stopped playing when they stopped caring about the story and started caring more about the cosmetics (which were already a problem to begin with, that progressively got worse over a very short time). The last time I played Destiny 2, was when I avenged Cayde, I killed them all and never looked back. I dislike immensely the apparent direction they took Rasputin, the artificial intelligence whose only other counterparts that I can think of in both complexity and function are SkyNet and Ultron, only he followed his directive until the collapse, because he could foresee that prolonging his own existence would be far more beneficial in the long term rather than allowing himself to be destroyed by the Darkness. It can be seen from the D1 Grimoire cards with his programming inscribed, he disables his civilization protection subroutines and determines that the Traveler will not leave the system. Once he does that he enters a state of prolonged dormancy and weathers the collapse.
I could go on even further but I feel like I would be just wasting my time. Though I am disappointed with the (IMO) terrible direction that D2 (and really the gaming industry as a whole) has taken I am glad I stopped playing when I did, before the rot set in.

The most painful thing is this was THE perfect way to hype up Lightfall. And then Lightfall's campaign was just.... meh

Sure, they're fictional characters, but having been on this ride for so long. Can't help but have a heart during moments like that; when Ana pulls the plug on Rasputin. Haven't had a sorrowful like that since.

I thought the last time the Traveler was going to leave, Rasputin attacked and disabled it and left it stuck with us.

Frankly I’m surprised she could talk him out of it given his ethics were overwritten to be more lenient, so long as humanity survived.

Finally managed to get a new powerful and actually cool side character that could help protect earth and actually had story importance since he's actually been with us in secret since the beginning of Destiny 1 but then Bungie removes him that same season with a character that we should have killed off in the previous story dlc. Bungie tried to do another Cayde pull but this just left a sour taste.

This is a full-blown rant for anyone who sees D2 content and in no way reflects my view on the video above (I personally loved this season and was saddened to see Rasputin go):
They've killed more support characters than absolutely necessary. IF WE HAD JUST STOOD ON BUSINESS LIKE IN DESTINY 1 AND KILLED THREATS THE FIRST TIME! First- The Black Heart, completely obliterated! Second, Crota- killed and proclaimed dead by us guardians, making an enemy if his father, Oryx. Third, Oryx the man himself- killed on HIS OWN SHIP and then in HIS OWN THRONE WORLD in thr Taken realm. Next (canonically, even if Bungie will never back this), Ghaul, who got clapped on HIS OWN SHIP, and then had his Light pass revoked by the Traveler! Then, Panoptes INSIDE THE INFINITE FOREST, AKA VEX DOMAIN! And finally, Zol, a freaking worm god (that I'm pretty sure we turned into a gun at some point; correct me if I'm wrong). We did need help from Rasputin, which is when he fully awakened, but I digress: Zol still got clapped. When did we stop? FREAKING UNDREN SOV!! THAT'S WHERE [Bungie] DREW THE LINE! (In game, it was Zavala, but basically Bungie, which making Zavala into that pisses me off, because he was all for taking back the city and doing what was necessary when Ghaul was around, but avenging the death of a member of the Vanguard and by far one of the BEST characters in Destiny all-around is where he draws the line??? BS)
Eramis should have died. Xivu Arath, whom we've been dancing around ever since the D2 reboot, making us start in the Cosmodrome again and helping Shaw Han out before going to the last city, should have been hunted down like Oryx and absolutely merked, and half the season crap we've had to put up with never would have happened.
But maybe that's just me. Feel free to comment what you think and correct me if I got any info wrong; it's been a while since I actually played.

Oryx, Savathun, Calus, the Witness. The story envelops the game. Saying that the story isn't a part of the game is strange and untrue. How could Bungie include the story in the gameplay, if they havent already? But having you meet the characters from the story and fight them? That's literally what the entirety of the gameplay is. I get the feeling you are trolling and are probably just a kid, so I'm not going to argue, but you are objectively wrong lol Sorry you don't enjoy the game. Bro the end of lightfall just further proves how pointless this was, why would the witness try to destroy the traveler if, “the final shape” requires it to go inside it. Such a dumb way to kill off Rasputin. Lazy, lazy, lazy. And they went back to back with Amanda staying behind to die for literally no reason, and then she refused to be revived by a ghost or her body couldn’t be recovered or something that doesn’t make sense along those lines.
The reason for this, simply was for the war to be removed from the equation. The Witness is very thorough, through this feint, his ships could move in unhindered.
@@SmithyJones the reason is that bungie didn’t want to bother finding a place for rasputin in the plot moving forward and saw an opportunity to milk 2 seasons about it by bringing Eramis back, which already made beyond light irrelevant and pointless. Bungie is absolutely ruthless about wasting everyone’s time and money with the seasonal model.
There is that too, I am no stranger to them completely scraping things for something else. Like with the exiled Guardian team just to name a big blatant one
