"You're not brave. You've merely forgotten the fear of death. Allow me to reacquaint you."
Not gonna lie, that line was badass.
I mean, on top of that Neil Kaplan voiced him. What a badass va for such a badass character
That is the coldest line ever, of all time
I’m a 10 year player…Like 4k hours of play while raising a family lol My son doesn’t really dig this game. But he LOVES this entire scene. 😂❤
Not gonna lie I like how Dominus wanted to prove he's worthy rather than just taking the light. Much respect
Daniel McAllister Yeah, let's ignore the fact that he tried to kill us and wipe an entire system. Still respect tho.
Daniel McAllister He dies, he wasnt worthy
Daniel McAllister I
Daniel McAllister But then all respect lost when he took it by force in the end anyway...but props for trying Ghaul!...

"I was born an outcast, a runt. As is custom with the Cabal I was cast aside and left for dead. Rejection, ridicule, torment. It made me stronger. I gave everything to win not just for acceptance, but glory."
Another tale of how monsters are not born, but made into what they are. From a nobody to the most ruthless warlord in Cabal history.
Yup bro most villains are just broken people who are turned into monsters by our society

Props to the Speaker. Despite his situation he keeps giving Ghaul crap.
"Ghaul... I... speak... for... the traveller... I never said it spoke to me..."
Oh damn it all... I ferl bad for the speaker...
MrRuner45 I'm pretty sure at that moment the Speaker knew he was gonna die

andy estrada Hey I'm New Monarchy so i've never been fine with the speaker. But I cannot help but feel pity for him after that...
*Sigh* ... I will never see him as I used to.
andy estrada He literally never lied to us. He said in 1, "Until it wakes and find its voice, I speak for the traveler." He just did his best to lead the guardians and protect the light. And he died protecting us.

Honestly i loved ghaul as both a character and a villian. Yeah hes kinda a bad guy, but he wanted to EARN his place and EARN the power of the light. I respect that, but the consul (still bent on revenge for calus) kept trying to force ghaul to use force for everything. ALSO whoever voiced ghaul is a beast, i know he prob has a filter still god damn. Like that little speech before the final fight, he sounds AMAZING
You_Just_Got_Sarged That Voice Actor is Neil Kaplan, he actually had little editing. He can just get that deep. He also voices Madara Uchiha in Naruto Shippuden and Emperor Zarkon in Voltron: Legendary Defenders.
@@austinkersey2445 and the voice of Tychus Findley
@@CBRN-115 I forgot about Tychus Findley. I love Starcraft 2, though I'm more of a Protoss kind of guy myself.
@@austinkersey2445 and he voices Magath in Attack on Titan. Bungie has done an absolutely amazing job on getting voice actors. I can’t think of a game that has so many great actors.
If you watch the "work from home" video, made by the offical Bungie place, you'll see the guy that played, and voiced as Zavala.
Ghaul be like: Look upon me. Dominus of the Red Legion. Annihilator of suns. Razer of a thousand world's. Slayer of gods and conquerer of the Light. I. Am. Ghaul. And I have become legend.
Pulls out small pistol.
The first time i saw that i couldn't help but laugh. Pulls out this cute little pistol after giving this speech about how powerful he is

Am I the only one who likes how ghaul didnt want to kill the speaker
WhiteHole- Media me,ghaul didn't want him to die but the speaker died anyway
Speaker survives a massive city invasion, starvation, sleep deprivation, and dehydration, but can't survive a five foot drop.
flash flood99 He got punched so hard it killed him. That can happen
flash flood99 who said they didn't feed him and give him sleep?
Zoova Ado you can hear it in his voice. He was going to die anyway.
Possibly all the things you mentioned weakened him, and the drop finished him.
flash flood99 boi died by fall damage
For a second there, It almost seemed like Ghaul felt bad for the Speaker.
Dark Souls Fanatic when?
Xandur 13:12
Maybe, but what I like about Ghaul that he is not just a bad guy who wants to kill everything that moves, he has principles, and takes his time to understand everything before taking action. Proops to Bungie that finally give us a worthly anthagonist.
He takes his time. Then he destorys your sun and kills everything that moves.
Dark Souls Fanatic
He did. He wanted help from the speaker to prove his worth, instead of killing him and taking the light. Only after the speaker's death did Ghaul turn to his last resort.
It seems to me like as the cutscenes progress the Speaker has convinced ghaul that he has to prove himself to the speaker
DustierGalaxy he tricked him good and if he didn't listen to him he could of just already token the light
@@josephthegreatest9714 he took the light but didnt have a ghost to revive him and 'deny death'. I think had Ghaul released the traveller and died in its presence, a ghost may have chosen him (as it did Savathun because she knew that protecting the traveller stops the end of all life) but the Consul stopped the Speaker from getting through that last bit of 'unworthiness' that Ghaul had
I just realized something about Ghaul’s armor.
Although it’s lacking the purple coloring (likely replaced by red because he is the leader of the Red Legion), Ghaul’s color scheme and armor design is not unlike the armor given to Calus’s Shadows/Champions (Rull, The Ace-Defiant, The Fulminator) that player’s Guardians receive from The Leviathan Raid. Ghaul’s gun even shares a similar aesthetic and color scheme to those found in the Leviathan.
This would explain a lot since Ghaul was once Calus’s right hand man.
It makes sense because he was there for Calus rule, Caiatl has changed the color scheme to gold and blue for her Cabal Ascendency
I mean he is one of calus' sons
"Cowering behind walls..."
That was directed at you Titans in crucible for sure.
"I speak for the traveler, I never said it spoke to me."
This implies 2 things: It could mean what it sounds like. The traveler never responds to the speaker. Instead it answer in other ways like bringing good fortune to the people.
Or it the line could ve read that the Speaker had been faking and lying to the people the entire time. This could be the speaker just letting thr lie out in his final moments before his(supposed)death. This could give weight to what Brother Vance was alluding to "Tell me guardian, what would you do if you knew the speaker was a charletton?"
James Elzie he had been faking of course you could have known if you payed attention in destiny 1 like when a fallen sees u he screamed EVIL THE EVIL IS HERE
+James Elzie yeah, I think the Speaker "interprets" for the Traveler, so I go with point 1
I’m a little rusty on the lore, but I recall our speaker was the first who couldn’t communicate with the traveler. There were others before him who could, but he was the first who couldn’t hear it.
@@argusthefallenangel6135 when was that?
@@BrEAcHxROWDY it was an old fan theory. it holds no weight as fallen don't speak english, but it's pretty fun to check out. i think game theory covered it if you wanna check it out
The speaker almost brainwashed Ghaul!!!!!! so close
It would have been pretty epic if Gaul ended up siding with the Speaker, and that Consul did a coup to become the surprise final boss with Gaul fighting with us.
+joshua kim (then Ghaul becomes the raid boss)
Actually, Consol has already done it. Tons of lore behind Ghual' s past that most don't know about.
I would've liked it if Ghaul repented and accepted that he was a sinner and that only through the Traveler may he find happiness and a chance at being chosen
“Take care your tone counsel”
Says that he started to defer to the speaker.
Reminds me of the Dead Worm god familiar that spoke to Savathun
Ghaul starts the story with telling you not to look at him. He doesn't even think enough of you that you should be allowed to witness his presence.
He ends by telling you to look upon him, having gained a respect for the one Guardian who was able to reconnect with the Light, and singlehandedly beat the shit out of his forces.
Cabal respect strength.

Lmfao
Who here in all honesty loves ghaul? He was such a great character. I even can go far to say that he was actually respectable in a sense that I feel he would've actually been a good guy. But I believe consul misguided him. In all Honesty I respect his wish of actually trying to earn the light, made him more different from the basic shoot em up blow up cabals. The final fight with ghaul was such a damn let down. It would've been great if ghaul was the raid boss. And the fight would Be him having the power of light using what subclass he wished. But no, we got a fat bastard robot dude that no one will remember after a week
Yea people like him I understand it was just my opinion. I also felt like a first raid for destiny 2 it was more challenging. Like in destiny 1 VOG was a great raid, it had challenging aspects to it aswell as being easy to learn. This raid seemed to complicated especially if people were new to the game
Tommy huynh Bungie didn't want Ghaul to be the raid boss, because then people who can't do the raid would fell like they haven't done anything significant in the story
Tommy huynh true he would've been a good new variks
I think Oryx was a much more intimidating and overall better antagonist than Ghaul
@@jerrybravo2305 That's... that's actually a really good idea! But Calus is the new Variks.
I always return to this video, the sound of Ghauls voice and his goals, possibly my favorite character in all of destiny

"You're not brave, you've merely forgotten the fear of death... Allow me to reacquaint you."
Take me back man, I loved the red war arc
Fr tho, in my opinion, red war was one of or if not the best campaign that destiny ever had. and the fact that they dropped it really sucks :/
7:27 just click it... You will hear the most beast roast ever
PaperiLiidokki you think about it too much and end up sounding dumb as fuck
Exactly that's why i'm asking, because i'm an idiot, moron, dumb as fuck, feel free to use what ever term you see fit, for not really understanding the ''insult'' with my thought process.
That's why i would like to someone who thinks differently help me realize/ better understand the insult there
Though asking help or opinions in CZcams comment section is a thing in it's self.
PaperiLiidokki he told him to just straight up kill himself
But to my mind at least, that doesn't constitute as an insult, only thing a broken, defeated, useless man on he's last legs would say out of spite and bitterness, by failing to defend what he believed in, the light and the traveler.
Looking back on it, the opening cut scene with our guardian pulling his ghost towards him, is an amazing foreshadowing of what was to come to Cayde-6. Although we as players were not aware that guardians could die by their ghost being destroyed(at the time), our guardian seemed to know and made sure to protect his ghost at all cost.
Brilliant.
I don’t think it’s as deep as that. It’s probably more akin to having a defenceless person in front of you and feeling the need to protect them. But it’s still an interesting comparison to make.
What? Did you not play destiny 1? I swear clueless new lights are so cringe
Everyone knew ghosts and guardians could be permanently killed. You didn’t even have to read the grimoire in destiny 1. There were DEAD GHOST collectibles that any brain dead person could find and realize that ghosts and guardians by extension could die.
@@william3117 I mean I was a 14 year old day 1 player, so.
Youre right tho yeah. Wrote this comment months ago and it was just a thought. Its just been so long. You didn't have to be such an ass 🤣🤣🤣 thats even more cringe.
Am I the only one that noticed that Ghaul is albino? His skin is whiter than other cabal and he has red eyes
shadowstarthe1st when? I only found out he was albino, because I read it Destinypedia
Dumbo Octopus I forget where precisely, but it brings up that Ghaul is albino and that was the reason why he was an outcast as a child.

Dumbo Octopus "Albin Primus" says all
Indominus Ghaul
The architects killed the Speaker😂.
Xd
Worst way to die. Then everyone thinks you're so weak when it really wasn't your fault.
7:51 for the lead up to one of the greatest roasts in videogame history!
9:17 that’s probably my favorite line from Ghaul, makes me respect him a lot more
12:16 there’s been a LOT of debate about this line, so I’ll explain it. The Speaker DOES get visions from the traveler thanks to the amplifier mask he wore, reading the constellations book gives us this, the last vison the speaker received
"Before that shackle was put around the Traveler, it cried out to me. It showed me || a broken mask, repaired by gold on fracture-seams || everything I needed to see; a lifetime of service rewarded."
So he lied just to give one last middle finger to Ghaul
I avoided everything like the plague until it came out on PC and I was thoroughly impressed with the story line and this new enemy. I love the voice acting between Ghaul and his adviser.
I only realized now that Ghaul actually had a chance to obtain the light, had he not imprisoned the Traveler. Savathuun obtained the light, what's to stop Ghaul should he have died in the siege?
Ghaul was the closest thing we had to a villain who we had no idea how close he was to succeeding.
Right? I’m kinda bummed he actually died and looking at the way he died it doesn’t look like he’s coming back soon:/
And he was starting to realize that, but Consul had already rooted ideals too deep, and with the speaker dead no one actually gave him *good* advice.
I wish that Ghaul didn’t steal the travelers power, but Consul did, and kills Ghaul for his betrayal, and you kill Consul instead, and Ghaul dies an ally by helping in the fight because he didn’t believe in taking the light by force.
He was still an enemy since he still intended on taking the light for himself.
The Consul was just a bastard for taking it by force.
if Dominus was brought up like us he wouldve been that way, but i prefer this ending, choosing to take Consul out for killing the travellee and resorting to taking it, not to become a God, but to force it to wake up and notice him
If he wasn’t outcasted by Calus he might have been an ally. Calus made a monster and we were the ones who had to deal with it
"Ghaul... I speak for The Traveller... I never said it spoke to me"
This is honestly one of the most interesting quotes in all of Destiny, really makes you think about the relationship between Guardians and The Traveller
I could imagine if the speaker spoke to ghaul like he talked to the guardians in the first game "I could tell you, of the power of the traveler, I could tell you, of how you would be defeated... But I'm not"
Funny how Ghaul never mention Calus, even tho he was the one that made him a Primus in the first place and loved him.
7:27 for the roast
Gaul had more screen time here then the joker in suicide squad
He had more screen time here then Godzilla did in his own movie
By far one of my favorite antagonists. Some of my favorite game quotes come from his first appearance, and he is such an interesting character.
Aghhh, I was hoping that Ghaul would turn to the light and join us! Wouldn't that of been so cool?

Or their Iraq and Afghanistan
I love ghaul one of the best antagonist that I've seen in a videogame he is ver complex and feels very human (keep in mind that there are many great games that I haven't played)
Now we'll never know what's behind the speaker's mask
Ghauls voice is just.....TOO GOOD
*Ghaul. I speak....for...the Traveler. i never said it spoke to me.**

12:36 look at his face lol he's like WTF
Ghaul: CONSUL NO
Consul: TAKE THE LIGHT!
A detail i love about Consul is how he wears a necklace of dead Ghost cores, and an arachnid helmet
Dude these cut-scenes looked movie quality good. Like I'd LOVE a movie of this game. Cayde looked very well animated Imo
i would do anything to replay this campaign
I feel like we still dont know everything about the speaker. He says "I know your kind... You started small... you will end small." Suggesting he is not human, awoken or exo maybe something more ancient... ive not seen anyone talk about this yet i cant be the only one to notice it. Can i?
Nitroband Or he has just researched the Cabal extremely through their network from when Guardians bring stuff back
Nitroband well he died Anyways even the ghost says so at the tower he says we need to find a new speaker
Nitroband That was such a cruel thing to say, even to the Cabal.
+Nitroband like Tyra Karn, the Speaker used to be a Guardian (Warlock), he's just in a non-combative position
He wasn't talking about race ehen he said your kind. He was reffering to people like Ghaul. The ones who start at the buttom and climb up to the top by crushing everything that stand in their way. But at the end they find out that they actually have nothing. He was right about Ghaul. Ghaul wanted to wiled power of the light properly. To be chsoe nlike Guardians but at the end he was forced to take it thus he didn''t actually accomplished nothing.
I kinda feel sorry for ghaul since his teacher pressed his buttons. He only wanted to get the light a different way
Respect for speaker went from 0 to 100 when he straight up roasted Ghaul.
His deep voice is both powerful and gravelly to the extreme. Fitting voice for a badass like Ghaul
It's the same guy who voiced the English dub of Madara Uchiha from Naruto.
@@noahgassler746 no wonder he sounds badass
The fact that in that first scene Ghaul didn't even kick him off the edge line you'd expect. He just pushed him with a "you're not even worthy of my boot" tone to it
I personally think that Ghaul is the best villain and here’s why, when Ghaul talks about his backstory of how he came to be, that’s similar to me because I have Autism which is the case of why it isn’t easy to do much outside of home when I was really young and so forth, then over the years I have learned to become better than the kids that try to fail, and like what Ghaul said, “ I NEVER FAIL!”. Ghaul would do anything to make sure he won and become chosen to become a god. Ghaul destroyed worlds! Also Ghaul was able to dethrone Calus. When the Speaker died Ghaul realized that the light cannot be given but it had to be taken since he finally realized why he won’t be chosen because he was a destroyer of worlds and stars and even gods, also the Consul was controlling Ghaul, so Ghaul killed the Consul so he could rise above and be greater without the Consul in control. Finally, Ghaul in the end was a villain that won’t let anyone stand in his way so he can truly become legend.
Well said.
Dude, there's no wonder I connected with him so well, I'm autistic too and failing makes me more horrified of being left behind.
*literally chocking someone to death*
“Old friend”
I miss playing the old campaigns. Holy shit they were awesome. And critics who said the story was bad were clearly dumb. Because HOLY SHIT. The presence of such a being like ghaul. It's insane how good we had it back then. Campaigns weren't drawn out over the months in the form of weekly story missions and seasonal passes.
Ghaul just feels way more threatening than the witness ever could be.
The Speaker is savage af
His voice actor did a great job
Sadly, Ghaul lost his argument before he even started. In assaulting the city, removing the light from guardians, and in abducting and torturing the Speaker, he had, in essence, attempted to get the light by force. It honestly would have been more interesting if Ghaul's faction had attempted diplomacy, first.
He even admits that is way was the wrong way later on In the recent season (well his ghost did)
@@heavyheart9685 I think you mean his Nightmare
Dominus Ghaul is still awesome, and he was still the best villain, because after a thousand years, he was the first to attack the Last City and cripple their defenses after the House of Devils failure during the Battle of Six Fronts, he had countless enemies killed, and i like how he wanted to be worthy of the Light
I started destiny 2 after this was removed as the start of the game, but man, sometimes I wish I’d gotten to it sooner, despite all I got to start with. I can see now, why this game is so highly regarded.
i bought the game when it came out and only just started again recently but yeah the campaign was something special and i wish i could experience it again but it sucks that its gone :\
I hope somehow you get to experience it in the near future. The feeling when you lose the light, also seeing the old tower filled with cabal destroying it was a shock and heartbreaking.
My favourite line for Gaul is definitely “your not brave you have merely forgotten the fear of death, let me reacquaint you”

I wish we got red legion themed armour and shaders.
Titan Leviathan armour can get you pretty close to looking like a Cabal, but I get what you mean.
Ghaul and the Red Legion tried to take the traveller and accidentally ended up waking the darkness and now all of us are screwed
Ghaul deserved more screen time.
9:39 - The Traveler speaking through the Speaker.
man if they brought this back with the heroic difficulty it would make one of the best campaigns
Ghaul was a way more intimidating villain than people really wanted to realize. But if you truly asked me, there was a single moment that ruined Ghaul's level of intimidation and that's when Cayde called him Gary lmaoo.
The speaker sounds like Davy jones

Alex Serrato that explains it

I have Full Mad Respect For Ghaul
Has anyone noticed the Exotic Hunter helmet “Arachnid” on Consul’s necklace?

Ulrren was devoted to mara
Uldren was brave enough to raise an army and kill the hunter vanguard
Uldren died for what he believed in

This video aged well … for Savathun, the Hive, and Crow.
Ghaul reminds me of Darth Malgus from Star Wars The Knights Of The Old Republic but on steroids lol.
He really just said “I never said it spoke to me...”
I want an alternate reality continuation of this story where Ghaul stayed true to his word, died without taking the travelers light and being chosen by a ghost afterward
Gritty epic voice: "World without light", as someone who watched Naruto, I heard this before.
Roadhog in destiny 2 voice actor of ghaul is josh petersdorf
KevinGame3 wrong. Its Neil Kaplan
Something I've noticed is that Ghaul doesn't want to take the light by force not just because of pride but because he truly wants to earn it as he has to earn everything he has in his life. He believed that dedication and hard work can earn anything and that unfortunately is not the case with some things.

Uglyguy Vlogs Life Alert!
I love the detail of the Guardian grabbing Ghost to keep it safe.
Would it be too much to ask Bungie for some Ghaul themed armor? I love this antagonist’s look, the all white accented with gold. It’s pure decadence combined with an intimidating military presence
Can you imagine just how much it would get hurt to get hit by that guy
To this day, I wonder who Ghaul’s second-in-command was. Was it his advisor, the Consul? Thumos, the Unbroken, Commander of his Blood Guard? Primus Cal’aug, Commander of the Red Legion on Nessus? Evocate-General Umun’arath, Primus of All Legions? Caiatl back when she was a Princess? I wonder who exactly was his second-in-command
The most devastating thing the Traveler could do to Ghaul was ignore him since he was an attention seeker. Then at the height of his power, blow him away and take everything back he stole without a second's glance.
Man I wish I could've experienced the Red War. Coming from someone who started with Witch Queen
It was a really damn good campaign
