- We now know that the Voice in the Darkness that has been speaking to us this whole time was The Witness. So, here's a quick video showing every time our Guardian has been spoken to by the Voice in the Darkness, The Witness. Lightfall's main antagonist and the ultimate evil of the Light and Darkness saga. This video includes Shadowkeep, Season of Arrivals, and Beyond Light (cutscenes and dialogue). Also, for anyone who is wondering, I didn't include the final cutscene of The Witch Queen, where we see the Witness's true form because that speech was directed at the Traveler, and not our Guardian.

Exactly! It’s likely that Bungie didn’t have the Witness’ design finished back in Shadowkeep, so they used a doppelgänger to represent the Witness.

TO THIS DAY my favorite cutscene is the one at the end of Shadowkeep. Us talking to what appears to be us. It gave me chills seeing the Witness manipulate itself (or some other entity) to look like us and casually say "We are your salvation". 10/10 would replay again.
Shadowkeep ended right when it got good tho. Witch Queen had plenty of story bombs, but Shadowkeep just was too vague and not very "encroachful" for lack of a better word.
@@ActuallyNTiX That’s honestly what I enjoy about Shadowkeep, the amount of vagueness. Sure, from a gamer standpoint it’s boring, but from a story aspect? It fits in perfectly, almost unsettling. The Darkness itself has been vague, obviously starting in Shadowkeep, with only small hints, to which in Beyond Light, we picked those up, and pieced more together, as time goes on, either by Lightfall or The Final Shape, we will see the end, given it is the last DLCs in the Dark and Light saga.
Pretty much Shadowkeep was just meant to be a lot more vague and unsettling, as was the theme

The 4 races standing around a pyramid. Was just foreshadowing the 4 factions that will stand against the darkness. Guardians, caitals cabal, the house of light and savathuns hive guardians
It also showed the ones that we would face calus cabal, house of salvation, and xivu's hive and maybe guardians may ally themselves with the witness because of his influence
The hive will never stand with us, they fight their interest and if they need to kill us before or after the arrival of the WItness then they will do it. The Hive is an 3th faction. I spoke for the light Hive of course because the rest of the hive have yet join the Witnessye
@@Bracus.Reghusk xivu commanded the hive on the day of the exosism on behave of the witness to capture savathun so I'm pretty sure most of the hive have joined the witness
I already made a theory on this back in arrivals that somehow all the houses shown in the scene would rally and we are already 2/3 of the way there i think savathun will definitely need to come back and help our asses I'm lightfall
@@iixoticii8801 my main theory is that in lightfall we will be either abandoned by the light or it will be captured like in some red war type deal. We will combat this by resurrecting savathuun and asking her for help. Maybe she even gives us hive powers and that is the new subclass. And in either lightfall or final shape we will use all our Allies to try and defeat the witness. I wasn’t aware of the room with the four races as I wasn’t playing the game at the time and seeing it now helps me reinforce my theory. I also think it’s interesting that they have built each of our Allies a equal opponent. Caital has calus, mithrax has erimas, savathuun has xivu arath. I also think it wouldn’t be far fetched to say the traveler will grant caital the light and mithrax and the fallen as well

I know your comment's super old, but I really did wish Bungie retroactively changed some of these dialogues to account for your use of Darkness.
Between its appearance, the ability to possess various constructs and the way it tempts potential followers when they are at their lowest, the Witness seems not just alien, but outright demonic.
It actually has many tools of manipulation to tempt others to its ideology: the Pyramids themselves, the Ziggurat, the Nightmares, which can also torment its victims. The Egregore is another of its tools it’s been using to watch us for so long. It was responsible for turning Guardians in Beyond Light, as well as season of Arrivals. The Weapons of Sorrow also indirectly helped the Witness corrupt many Guardians. Though Shin took care of that. For so long, the Vanguard and others in the Tower have been wrong about why he should fear our true enemy. Don’t fear how the Witness can easily destroy us, fear what it can offer us.
That’s what I like about the darkness and light.
They don’t feel alien at all, but primordial. A force. A presence in the universe and out.

You can always tell when The Witness is speaking through Ghost because it only ever refers to itself as "we" or "us"
Can’t wait to see more of the Witness in Lightfall. And hopefully in that expansion, we can face an entirely new race.

No, they won’t. Doesn’t make sense story wise to introduce a new species when it’s the climax of the story. Afterwards it will come, but a new variant of a species is needed this time too.
After the light and darkness saga for in the new saga it would make sense to face a new race for this new saga

I still shiver whenever I hear him. I know he’s just a character in a game but Bungie really outdid themselves when it comes to making something emanate such a powerful aura of doom

What if the Witness straight up gifts us the new Subclass for killing the Traitor 'Savathun' and it sort of starts to corrupt us.
i mean stasis has corrupted others before like in the dark future where anna was corrupted by it. my guess is the witness will give us subclass after subclass hoping that it will corrupt us or give us enough reason to side with him.
I think the best way for us to beat the witness would be in whatever dlc comes after we get our 3rd dark subclass where he has to flee from us after we show that with all he tried to corupt us with it did nothing realy.
After all that in the future i hope we get some fused subclassess where we use both light and darkness at once as that is apparently what the witness want to do and if we do it first then that would be cool

@@johnprice6271 yea. Maby it could have customizable ability's from both and unique ones. I do feel like they would need to have been coding this in the background or give it 1 or 2 dlcs between us getting all the dark subclasses then dropping the neutral ones on us. I don't think neutral would apply for a mix of light and darkens as using powers outside of light and dark would be that... Maby some sort of fancy name that tells us the class is both light and dark. Unity many?

I always envision the Darkness talking to us through our ghost this exact same way. Was super hyped when it finally happened in Shadowkeep but I also wish there was a red eye or something
I think it would be creepy if our ghost's eye disappeared but its shell still moved, as well
I think Bungie is smart enough to understand that we need a new enemy race to fight and just think of the whole expansion taking place in the last city
you can notice a whole different race in dsc raid just right before the atraks encounter, they are frozen or idk paralyze i think cause if you approach closer enough you can hear them breathing. it sort of looked like the witness and rhulk race.

Nice. Gotta say, I've really been going all in on Destiny 2 lore lately, especially leading up to Lightfall. Can't wait to see what comes next! I personally think Lightfall is going to get us to sympathize with The Witness in a believable way. Even Savathun had some redeeming qualities and I think Witch Queen was good practice for us to see that things won't always be clear cut.
I'm assuming the witness has Psychokinesis abilities, he seems a lot like Professor X but on a larger scale.
Multiple heads could play a part in it also. In Savathuns two truths and two lies, she said he used to be mortal, the traveler blessed his species with the light, but they became powerful and greedy and dangerous.
He's able to manipulate our ghost fairly easy, enter our minds, and talk to us while casting an image of ourselves talking to ourselves.
If he's just an entity "wearing the darkness like a cloak" he's definitely a powerful individual.
His doesn't mean what he's saying, "The children of Sol is crying out in pain" The truth I believe is, this entity beat up on our advanced civilization of humans, no guardians were alive at that point, he's been trying to recruit us since they first arrived.
We've taken out everyone he's aligned with so far, I don't believe he's worried, but he does see us as a gigantic threat.
His crew has had their way with everyone except us, our specific guardians.
I think the witness had his eyes on us ever since we killed the black heart I think he would be very impressed with defeating crota,oryx,ghaul,eramis even rhulk and savathun
@@dropkick3024 We probably won't find out how he feels about Rhulk until Lightfall or one of the upcoming seasons before Lightfall. The way Bungie has written it, he's only reached out to a select few on our side, us as the guardian, Mara, and Savathun, I say Savathun because she's never really been our true enemy. She's never sent anyone after us, it's always been her underlings that we came across in battle on different planets, and remember what her worm said, she was one of the reasons humanity survived the collapse, she tricked the witness.

I see more so that we caught his attention not because we destroyed the black heart, but because we did it not even a year after our resurrection. Our Guardian killed The House of Devils Archon, a Vex Gate lord, The House of Winter Kell, and made a noticeable dent in Cabal leadership; this isn’t counting year 1 strikes either or else the feats would be higher. I say our Guardian doing things quickly is what establishes them as a figure, and how the Witness would probably be keeping tabs on them. Also if you look at our Guardian’s kill count of powerful beings you’d see how high it is, not even counting other feats; that alone warrants aggression from the Witness

Yessss was hoping for this to be released loved when the witness possed our ghost to speak to us In shadowkeep and arrivals and beyond light. Also you forgot there was dialog if you wait before going up the stairs to the viel statue the witness/ghost says "come to us...do not be afriad" and the part in beyond light "the light believes you thankless nothing more than a soldier asked again and again to do its bidding. So we want to thank you with a gift. To help you finally take control"
Okay interlocking all of those transitions made it feel like you just had a whole bunch of different flashbacks

the witness is that 5th enemy race, albeit they took it to the extreme, in the concept there was only a single dude with a ton of smoke and the pyramids, what we got is a single smoked head entity that controls the pyramid fleet.

Yeah except the darkness gives you memories, where the light takes them away.
And Ghaul even was told that by the Speaker. Sure, the Light takes away memories from the Risen who are chosen, but it also gives them something else-- redemption for some, like with Crow given the things he did as Uldren, which is why his being a Guardian now, even if he would have hated it in his old life, allows him to make up for his mistakes and forge his own path, away from what Savathun used him to do because of what happened to his sister.

After seeing what the witness did to the hive I doubt its intentions are to help us.

Oh god I remember coming to this pyramid back when shadowkeep was released. I spent hours trying to find a way to it and just couldn’t.
go the scarlet keep on the moon, go past the front gates and take a right and you'll be able to find once you go through the cave system. you'll have to glitch inside if you're in patrol, but you can go back inside if the weekly mission on the moon is "Beyond"
Ahh yes yes The sumoning key was given to us in shadowkeep end, ofcourse they did a collab with Cod bo3 that time. I remember, Richthofen after shadows of evil, he dropped it while time travelling to The Giant, so he came here and snatch it out of our hands once again off screen and we never heard from it again since shadowkeep. Goodtimes how could i forget

They are posed as villains, and yet I find what they say less than false.
What strength is there in being granted eternal life, a borrowed strength, another chance lost countless times. What hope is there when the only light left in the universe is the last, flickering light of the traveler you cling so desperately to. There is no equilibrium of light and dark to be had here, no yin to yang, no meaningful oscillation of night and day, only a light amidst the defaulting darkness everywhere around it. In darkness, there are no shadows, for there is no light to cast them, there are no shapes, for there is no light to draw their edge, and there is no weakness, for there is no light to expose you.
I'm very much looking forward to meeting this Witness, as someone who seems to be in agreement, if not about solely embracing darkness, then wielding both light and dark together.

we came a long way boys, from Crotas end to the potential end of Guardians as we know it
During season of arrivals the witness was speaking half truth but in a way to get us on their side for the light made Guardians forget who they were the darkness allows the possibility for them to regain that with deepsight
As well as how it didn't seem, to account for Strand when we come to Neomuna and Neptune. The Witness basically wants to sway us, but many Guardians' resolve is too strong to fall for its manipulations and half truths. Given we know it will do anything to get what it wants, like when we learned the Witness tricked Savathun when she was Sathona, to prevent the Traveler from blessing the Hive with the Light, and leading them to fall into the dark nature of its belief in the Final Shape, which ties to their Sword Logic. And it used things like Savathun's pride and Calus's lust for power to sway them to it and the Darkness, but they all fell eventually. Even if the Witness doesn't see itself as a god, it's underestimating us, like its Disciples and those that follow the Darkness like Eramis, Oryx, and such have, and it led to their defeats, so while things seem bleak now if you know the ending to Lightfall's campaign, there's still that hope waiting in the coming dawn. It won't be easy... but hey, it doesn't mean we can't win, given we thought we'd lose when it came to Oryx and his unleashing the Taken on the system.
Let's be real if anyone type of guardian would become a desciple it would be a trials player lmaoooo

Anyone know why the dialogue is cut short after fighting the Fikrul nightmare? Didn’t it used the say “The light abandoned Cayde, left him for dead and kept him from being saved, in light there is only failure.”
The dialogue in the mission has unfortunately been bugged since its release. Right before we approached the statue, it was also supposed to say: "Come to us. Do not be afraid." This is something fundamentally wrong with Bungie's scripting of the mission.
@@ThePhoenix329 it still does the come to us part. It just takes a sec. It's recognizing that the guardian is scared at the sight of the statue. Just need to walk slowly up the steps

It would be cool to see a pure darkness subclass after defeating the witness in a raid. Only be able to obtain the subclass if you beat him in a raid.

It's wild to me that now we know the Pyramids weren't tied to the Darkness at all, that's just the architecture that the Witness' original species/civilization loved.
It wasnt in the video, but it's a line in BL (last clip in this video) where the Witness says "the Light thinks you thankless, a pawn. But We don't think so, let us bestow a gift to you" Something like that. It's an interesting line, along with being told that they love us or something

did lightfalls tone and aesthetic sort of ruin the sense of doom and eeriness associated with the darkness and the witness for anyone else? the witness itself was still well done, but before whenever we went on a pyramid ship it felt like the end was coming, and then we got lightfall and everyone seemed way too fine with the witness showing up. no one seemed afraid of the inevitable final shape
I can't keep wondering, why the Witness just wants to mess with us... to talk to us...to convince us darkness is better.
The Guardian we are playing is possibly the most powerful Guardian to ever exist. Almost godlike. Canonically at least.

I still remember the first time the witness spoke to us in Shadowkeep. It'd been so long since I'd seen my guardian helmetless that I was very taken aback. She has yellow eyes too so it extra spooked me. Oh and The Witness speaking to us with our own voice also spooked me p good, homegirl sounded straight demonic.

I love how for Lightfall, Bungie keeps on talking about how “the pyramid fleet is finally here” yet they said the same shit like 2 years ago during that season which I knew was total bullshit.
Yeah, I was kinda happy during season of Arrivals, and then Bungo went a totally different direction when they outright removed the planets that the fleet was stationed on.
