Let's talk about how much alcohol you would have to drink to cause liver damage.
One study found that just 21 binge drinking sessions could potentially produce early-stage liver disease. In this study, a binge drinking session is classified as more than five drinks in two hours, and a drink is classified as 0.6 ounces of alcohol.
0.6 ounces of alcohol is equivalent to:
    • 12 oz of beer
    • 8 oz of malt liquor
    • 5 oz of wine
    • 1.5 oz shot of liquor
When you have an alcoholic drink, about 25% of the alcohol is absorbed into your bloodstream. As it goes through the bloodstream, it goes through the liver. The liver then breaks it down and deals with the toxic material.
Over time, you will lose the enzyme network that breaks down the toxic material. The toxic material can then build up and create a lot of damage. This can lead to fat in the liver, inflammation, and eventually cirrhosis.
Inflammation in the liver usually starts within five years of heavy drinking on a regular basis. Cirrhosis typically takes 5 to 10 years or more to develop.
Eventually, you can lose liver function. This can cause an inability to detox, leading to digestive problems, DNA damage, and a higher risk of liver cancer. But, you won't experience many symptoms until things progress.
The first symptoms of liver damage:
    • Fatigue
    • Belly fat
    Symptoms of advanced liver damage:
    • Ascites
    • Arthritis
    • Itchiness
    • Jaundice
    • A spike in estrogen and a drop in testosterone
    • Fatigue
    • Bad breath
    • A loss of muscle
Consuming sugar has about the same effect as drinking alcohol. It can actually cause nonalcoholic liver disease. Certain medications and even viruses can also destroy the liver.
The good news is that the liver is the only organ that can completely regenerate if you stop doing the things that are causing the destruction. But, there is a point of no return where there is too much scar tissue, and the damage is irreversible.

I drunk 15 bud lights everyday within 4 hr period for 2 decades. Always woke up sluggish (functioning though). Quit last June 24th cold turkey. The first few nights was a little hard to sleep. Then after that it became easier. One tip I have is to drink a lot of water to replace the urge to drink beer. I know everyone is different, but I hope this post helps someone that may need help. For me, quiting wasn't as hard as I expected.

I’ve been drinking for quite some time now, however for the past two years I gradually began drinking one liter a day of vodka. My father committed suicide last month due to drinking a handle or more each day for four days straight. So my drinking increased even more due to the shock and depression that arose, almost repeating my father had done. I was hospitalized last week and had nearly a .45 BAC, a lethal amount of alcohol in my system and I needed to be treated. I haven’t touched a drink since May 5th, and I truly hope I never do again.

Damn dude. That’s intense. Don’t listen to the drink’s whisperings and callings. You can do it. The longer you’re off it, the better you’ll feel, and though you always need to keep your guard up as cravings come and go, it will get a little easier over time. Remind yourself how many people screw their lives up over it, and how many times it’s embarrassed you or caused you to do dumb or evil things.

I drank a 6 pack every night for about 11 years never any of the hard stuff just beer. In the late summer of 18 I went to the ER with what I thought was UTI, unbeknownst to me I had stage four cirrhosis. I stopped drinking that night cold turkey it was either that or death. With no health insurance I was sure my life was over.
I was able to get on state funded insurance until my wife finished graduate school and got a job that offered insurance. It was a struggle staying sober because the only chance of living was a transplant but I did, and after having my 2nd HE episode on my 41st birthday I woke up in another ICU room a 100 miles away in San Antonio and was told I was being moved to palliative care because my body was no longer functioning.
One doctor refused to give up on me and promised me that I’d walk out of there again if I pushed myself harder then I could ever imagine.
On March 7 2020 I had successful transplant surgery and walked out of that hospital on May 7th 2020 as promised. I just wanted to share this for those that struggling with sobriety, and for those that have cirrhosis. Life is not over

Just some hangovers. But later i started to feel a little pain on my right side, and ofcourse i was obese. That was the time when i said enough. After month of not drinking at all i saw how my sleep is better, no more fatigue, and no more wasted hours on hangovers. Now i just drink 1-2 beers like once a few months with friends and no more. He always had a can of beer open unless he was asleep. He couldn't get drunk from beer anymore , so he resorted to moonshine and whiskey. What amazed me was that he was skinny , no pot belly , and had washboard abs. I know he had liver disease. There's no way he couldn't have. I was a binge drinker. In times of crises usually caused by anxiety my drinking went off the charts. The more I drank the more anxious I felt the next day. It would escalate to drinking 3 bottles of vodka a day before I would be taken to hospital. The last time I had a binge like this I was admitted, I had deranged LFT’s and an enlarged liver on Ultrasound. My liver biopsy revealed severe Steatosis (fatty liver) but fortunately no hepatitis or fibrosis. I abstained and after several months my liver Function was completely normal and my liver was fat free. I was lucky! My anxiety disappeared and I’ve not touched a drop in 22 years. Do I miss it? If you love yourself you won't try to destroy the self that you do not love. I dont mean egotistically and superficially, I mean the being that you are deep inside, see the uniqueness with love and appreciation for life. Do the hard work. Recognize and do the shadow work. When you do, you will be able feel self love and then you can love others, also you'll be able to attract love into your life. I'm sending you much love and blessings. Namaste 😇😍🤗

Of course there is no such thing as a quick fix, so one will have to follow through later, with action. Not a prayer that is defeating with the attitude of giving up responsibility for their actions. Selflove is the target spiritually.

Being a type 1 diabetic on an insulin pump she would eat all she wanted and just pump up what she thought she needed to cover it. I was constantly having to pull her out of blood sugar highs and lows. Constant words of warning fell on deaf ears.

Everyone’s threshold is different. Some people really shouldn’t drink at all and others can slam for decades without major complications. Scary part is you don’t really know which type you are until it might be too late, which is why it’s best to play it safe if you can. I live in New Orleans so it’s damn near impossible to not drink and have a social life but I have cut back. Get blood work done annually, workout 4-5 days a week, and eat healthy, never had any issues but the time will come where I gotta quit or at least significantly cut back.

  • @Bertorama
    @Bertorama Před 2 lety +10

I rarely drink anymore, maybe a drink or two on New Years Eve and that’s about it for the rest of the year. I’m far from being a holy roller, and I used to drink on the weekends like an Alcohol Olympian back in the day. I eventually just kind of lost interest in it more than anything. I had a dear friend who died of liver failure at 36. His was a case of drinking himself into an early grave. While I used to blow off steam on the weekends, he was a classic alcoholic who for as long as I knew him, would drink as much as whole bottle of Johnny Walker Black between the time he got home until he finally passed out. This went on for years. We all gave him “the talk” but in the end it was for naught. I wouldn’t say that what happened to him was the reason which led me to quit drinking alcohol, but for me it was more of a cautionary tale. I certainly didn’t want to end up like him and today, a decade after he passed, I can’t imagine a set of circumstances where I would go out and get hammered into oblivion. Although I didn’t stop drinking because of CJ, I think of him every new year when I have my annual glass of wine or beer.

My humble advice: keep your mind occupied with positive things!! @@lordzephyrus6494 @stevenpervez7421 hey, thanks y'all for asking about an update. Labs came back great. Literally the lowest my liver enzymes have ever been, all inflammatory markers are in good shape, and now my sleep score is 15-20 points higher on average. The only things that are still a concern are my HDL, IGF-1, and blood sugar. Blood sugar was normal, but it wasn't as low as I wanted so next round of labs I'm asking for hba1c. HDL has been steadily going down for years so now I'm trying to add niacin. IGF-1 was very low which is concerning. Hgh is mad expensive so I've been using peptides for the last two months. Labs in two weeks so I hope to see IGF-1 go up some. I feel way better on the peptides though so I have to assume that's better.
As far as body composition - down 30lbs of fat and up 8-10 of muscle.
I now drink but it's way different. 2 beers on a Sunday watching football is as high as it gets, but mostly I'm only drinking once a month.
If anybody is thinking about quitting drinking just do it. Sure sometimes I want a beer, like on a golf course or after a long day, but once I ignore that feeling I still have a good time and feel better.

In an odd way cancer saved my life. I also stopped smoking from then on.
