Made this cake yesterday for my husband's birthday ! It was excellent & delicious . I used butter milk & lots of raisins as that's his favorite thing to add to his cakes . Definitely a keeper....😋😋😋

Made it today, added fruits to one, sultanas and golden raisins chopped up and the other I made like yours girl but I dont drink or eat alcohol so I ommited the bitters, The orange and added half a nutmeg in it and it was really good. Thank u.

I made it again but used blue band and it did not come out as good. You are correct a good quality butter is a must. So I purchased Kerry gold butter to make this weekend for my brother’s birthday. I baked this cake twice and I reduced the heat by 25 degrees the second time because of the texture of the pan. Yet the side was very dark. Do you have an idea why this happened? Otherwise I enjoyed it. Thanks.
Yes, keep the 2 cups of flour but add 3/4 cup of cocoa powder. I like Richmond Valley Cocoa but if it's not available, any brand will work. Also add 1 teaspoon of baking soda. If you want a really soft, airy chocolate cake, swap the butter for 1/3 cup of oil.

Sorry to hear, I get mine reasonably priced at Costco. Maybe Pricesmart will have. If not, you can use any butter or even the blue band margarine.

If you want to make chocolate cake what cocoa powder to use and do i use this same method for the chocolate cake
