    Andrew Stump, Violin
    Aaron Patterson, Piano
This Pastorale is one of three beautiful pieces for violin and piano written by Herbert Howells in 1917 and published in 1923. My amazing best friend Aaron is featured on the piano; I hope you enjoy!

    Andrew: Congratulations!
An idea to compliment the Vienna horn: NATURAL HORN!
YES! With all the stopped notes included.
    And don't forget:
The C basso horn was a very special instrument! Ask Beethoven, Scubert and Brahms, etc etc.
So the F horn is not a "low horn"
at all. In fact it was Giovanni Punto's favorite horn, along with E and Eb crooks. (Made out of sterling silver by Raoux in Paris.)
There are no classical concertos for Bb alto horn. Franz Strauss discovered that he could get excellent results with a 3 valved Bb horn and Wagner apparently agreed!
In 1865 Wagner asked for valved horns in Tristan und Isolde....(Franz Strauss on 1st horn) ...the same year, Franz Strauss played his Concerto in C minor successfully around Germany....and .....incredibly, a composer just over 30 years old wrote a great trio op. 40 for horn in E flat, violin and piano....and (!) insisted it should be played exclusively on the NATURAL HORN!
(Johannes Brahms....) His mentor, Schumann, had already written the Adagio und Allegro and Konzertstuck for the VALVED HORN!
    Just some thoughts for you!
You are (multi) talented. I see you love the old hymns. You are in good company with Johann Sebastian!
    SINCERLY,
    EDWARD BROWN
    (Horn player and teacher)
