I think deep down he is trying to navigate life without his dad with him passing earlier this year and deep down could still be in pain and its affecting his productivity. recovering from something like that surely isn't easy so we just gotta be patient.

I am definitely a fan of OVI. I really expected he would hit the wall. It just took a year or two longer than I expected - which was crazy.
He has already greatly exceeded points production for anyone in his age bracket the last couple years. He set records for that which I expect will NEVER be broken. But this has to be the last year. No shame in that at all.
He's always been a slow starter. He heats up, and then stays hot for long stretches. The goal record is falling, and it's falling soon.

Perhaps, but this is the fewest goals he's had 26 games into a season ever. His previous low was 8 in the season where he ended up with 38 goals. His second lowest through 26 games was 10 in the season he scored 32. Every other season was between 12 and 21 at this point in the season.

I think he might be done for. It's unfortunate because without the NHL lockouts he would have been passed Gretzky.
There's no point in "coulda, shoulda, woulda" discussions. It works the other way too. If Gretzky was never traded or never injured his back he would have scored 1000+ goals, and there wouldn't be any discussion, but that's not the reality we live in.
Age and steroids take their toll.
