The poor dude died a young guy of only 17 years old. Amazing that he reached such success at such a young age.
And with pure talent. Not like most "Singers" these days.
Pure talent is right!
As the movie poster stated, "Talent made him a star. Fate made him a legend."
He will forever be a legend
Man hate to think Richie died a virgin i mean Donna wasnt giving it up ..he wasnt a womenizer like Bob ..so who khows ?!!
At 0:12 I feel really sad for Ritchie's mom. By this point her son had been dead for 28 years. Imagine how heartbreaking it must have been for her, to sit on a couch literally a couple of feet from this young actor so much like Ritchie, portraying her baby who she lost when he was just 17.
I never knew that thanks for that!!! The family were very close to Lou from every thing I saw I guess they lost it when they saw him get on the plane!!
In fact, Ritchie's sister faced to Lou Diamond Phillips in the scene of the last concert asking him why did he take the plane
A mother living longer than a son. Is not good. Wow. Her mother was proud of Richie
I saw her gravestone and she died I believe the same month the movie came out, but, don't know if it was before or after it came out, so, always wondered if she saw it. If I read anything about if she saw it or not, its been so long ago, I don't remember.
Ritchie's sister said in an interview that Lou diamond Phillips became Ritchie to her during the shoot. She said it helped her reach closure a bit
That is Richie Valens real mom, Connie at 0:12 secs. She played the grandmother in the 1987 movie
Me ontenz She died 3 months after the movie released
May she rest in Heaven with Richie ❤❤
Wow, I never knew that
wow
And Ritchie's nieces play his little sisters in the movie as well.
Ritchie seemed like such a nice kid, why do all of the good ones go so soon. :(
They say that, God takes the good ones early, before they rot(sin). Just a saying from my family
He was a nice kid. But in many ways older then his age.
What makes you think that he was good? You never know what's in a person's heart!!!
@Deanominator3326 oh fuk right off with that BULLSHYT
In thousands of documentaries and books of read and watched he is always portayed as a sweet, young man. I'd love to meet someone like that
It’s just too bad that we never got to see him live on film but there’s only rare footage of him. I wish that he had lived long enough to see his music become a phenomenon. R.I.P. Ritchie Valens.
The artists they got to cover the music in this film were spectacularly good!
La bamba is one of my favorite movies, I wanted to be Ritchie when I was a Kid!
Same here. He’s the reason I started playing guitar.
Great movie indeed.
I wanted to be Bob
@@mj45532 Also I heard the real life Bob died a while back.
I became bob
Lonely tear drops still gives me goosebumps.
Porque?
At 0:12 Ritchie’s mom was playing as the grandmother in the movie, and you can just see how hurt she is 💔
La Bamba is Now on Netflix 🎸
Lou diamond Phillips was extraordinary in this role he introduced me to a singer i never heard of..RIP Ritchie😢
unfortunately, there's no live footage of Ritchie playing that can match any scene in the movie :/
dimitreze it's alright man I still love the video man keep up the good work man
thanks Joey :)
dimitreze no problem man could u do scene comparison to the movie the rat pack please
dimitreze there is Google "Ooh My Head"
There is a video of him playing for two teenage girls at a table in a old movie.
Jackie Wilson's voice was amazing, holy shit
Howard Huntberry was actually using his real voice skills in La Bamba. Many think his is better than Jackie's.
And to think, the song that would become a cornerstone of Chicano Rock ‘n’ roll was born in the backseat of a Thunderbird on a trip to San Francisco.
Bob Keane knew it would make one hell of a record!
Great video, I love it. What an underrated artist, Ritchie Valens. He experienced fame for one year and then he was gone
thanks ☺
So sad. Did you know he was a left handed man but he played a right handed guitar? Good factoid.
Hew Grebe yes, and that made it hard(er) for him to platy
It's 2021 yet I still love and watch this movie 😁😎

I feel like crying. His story still haunts me.
0:12 Ritchie Valens Real Mom
They "Say you wills" part sounded the same!
*RIP Richie and Eddie* 😢😢
You are a legend for making this. What a gem!
Thank you so much! I’ve always wanted to see some of the scenes compared like Lonely Teardrops. I’ve always tried to do it myself.
What hit me hard in the movie is when Ritchie said to Donna "when I'm 26 I will marry you and love you"
LOL, the stuff one says when we are teenagers in love. So sweet, though.
MAY OUR HEAVENLY FATHER TRULY BLESS THEM ALL !!! THE LATE GREAT JACKIE WILSON WAS SO SMOOTH , THE TOTAL PACKAGE !!! WHAT A TRAGEDY !!! THE LOSS OF SO MANY YOUNG TALENTED PEOPLE , WHO HAD A GREAT FUTURE AHEAD OF THEM !!!
La bamba marcou minha adolescência, que saudades desse tempo.
This movie was done so well. Great they got real preforming in it, too.
probably my favorite movie , grew up on it ! Well done Dimitreze!
So cool! Thanks for putting all this footage together. Couldn't of been easy
you welcome!
this kind of music is becoming my fav ☝🏾
Hey look, Brian Setzer portraying Eddie Cochran, but with Brian Setzer's hair, Brian Setzer's suit, & Brian Setzer's guitar licks at the end. Good work, Brian.
Ever felt you were born In wrong era ??
I always feels that way. I was supposed to be born in the 20s. I love 20s era(Charleston dance and flapper dresses etc.)
Sometimes, but, I like the eras I grew up in.
Yes
Yes i have i always wante to be born in the 50 to 60 era
Brian Setzer was just being himself. Great casting though
When I got older I thought Brian playing Eddie Cochran was pretty cool considering he idolized him. The orange Gretsch says it all
Thank you for the great video from this kid from Paoima,
I can’t wait for the Freddie Mercury and Rami comparisons later on when the movie is released
me too!
Somebody already made one..
Brightest candles burn twice as fast

Nicely done!
If I’m not mistaken, Eddie Cochran dies a year after Valens....Sad
Yup, he died in a motorcycle accident
Anthony Rodriguez Motor vehicle accident, not motorcycle
He died in the UK after a taxi carrying himself his girlfriend and Gene Vincent crashed. I believe he got ejected from the car
Didnt he die just a few short months after ritchie?
It's 2023 and I still listen to the soundtrack to this movie. Thw music is amazing
Best thing to come out of my city , 818 misses you richie ❤️

Here are some trivia facts about Ritchie Valens:
He was attending Pacoima Junior High School in Pacoima, California, on January 31, 1957, when a mid-air collision occurred between an Air Force fighter plane and a civilian passenger plane high above the school. Debris from the crash fell on the school, killing three students--one of whom was Valens' best friend. He developed an intense fear of flying after that and would fly only when necessary. Ironically, he died in an airplane crash two years after the incident.
Despite having his most popular hit with "La Bamba", an adaptation of a Mexican folk song with a rock rhythm and beat, Valens did not speak Spanish.
Early in his career, Bruce Johnston, later of The Beach Boys, was a fellow band member. The Beach Boys have credited Ritchie as one of their influences.
He was inspired to write his hit song "Come On, Let's Go" by a comment that was often made by his mother: "Come on let's go--we're gonna be late."
His hit song "Donna" was named after his high school sweetheart Donna Ludwig.
Was one of the performers featured on a set of stamps of rock and blues legends issued by the United States Postal Service in June 1993.
Parents were Steven Valenzuela and Connie Valenzuela.
He was posthumously awarded a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for Recording at 6733 Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood, California on May 11, 1990 (two days before what would have been his 49th birthday).
In the trailer for Go, Johnny, Go! (1959), he is seen briefly performing on stage, with no sound. In the actual film, he is performing "Ooh My Head" in a coffee shop. This may suggest that another song was left on "the cutting room floor".
Following his untimely death, he was interred at San Fernando Mission Cemetery in Mission Hills, Los Angeles, California. His mother Concepcion Valenzuela passed away on October 18, 1987, at age 72, and was interred alongside him.
In June 1988, a 4-foot tall granite memorial bearing the names of pilot Roger Peterson, Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and The Big Bopper (J.P. Richardson) was dedicated outside the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa. The event marked the first time that the families of Holly, Valens, Richardson, and Peterson had gathered together.
He inspired many musicians of Mexican heritage, including Jimi Hendrix, Chan Romero, Robert Quine, Carlos Santana, Chris Montez, and Keith O'Connor Murphy, among others. Had long been acknowledged as a pioneer of Chicano rock and Latin rock.
Along with Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens was one of the first guitarists to play on a Fender Stratocaster. He was raised hearing traditional Mexican mariachi music, as well as flamenco guitar, rhythm and blues, and jump blues.
In 2019, his version of "La Bamba" was selected for the National Recording Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically or aesthetically significant".
According to friends, Ritchie Valens wanted to become a success in rock 'n' roll so he could buy his mother a nice home. He achieved this, not long before his untimely passing.
Me encanta esa pelicula
His song lives on!
Back when 17 year Olds looked like men

The guitar player in 36 seconds is that the same guitar player from the movie the country bears when he is having the battle with the violin bear at the bar?
Reminds me of Joey Moss
R.I.P Joey Moss
The guy singing Summertime Blues is the guy from the Stray Cats. Brian Setzer.
Always the same chords back then but so good
Eddie Cochran (Summertime Blues) died the same year as Ritchie in a London taxi accident. Bad year for Rock.
1:08
My favorite.
that dudes performance is underrated
Can anyone please tell me the name of the first song that was played in this video? Thank you.
What makes him dying worse was that he had a fear of flying sO not only did he die at a young age he died by the thing that scared him the most which makes that much more scary
