I met him at a convention a couple of years ago. My Mother had just passed away from Liver Cancer and her biggest wish was to have had met Mr. Phillips. I was able to bring my Dad instead. I discussed with Mr. Phillips about my Mother's passing and how my Father was heartbroken after being married for 54 years. My mother always said Mr. Phillips reminded her of my Father when they first met. The movie La Bamba and the way Mr. Phillips dressed in that movie always reminded her of my Dad. Even I when I was about 22 and young guns 2 had come out many thought I was Mr. Phillips and I introduced Mr. Phillips to my dad and my dad got teary and so Did my Mr. Phillips and they hugged each other. I took a picture of that hug and I honestly felt like my Mother was there, "smiling at them and feeling the love" i then took a picture with them and Mr. Phillips said some kind words to my dad. I will forever be grateful for that day and what a kind, humble, and excellent human being Mr. Lou Diamond Phillips is. "Thank you and I know my mother was happy and Thankful as well by your generosity and for just giving me some of your time for explaining why we were there"
It is so nice when your hero lives up to your expectations and then some. Really sorry about your Mom. You will be together again one day….she is right there with you.
I’m 42 and La Bamba is one of the movies I remember as practically a little older than a toddler. Lou Diamond Phillips could have been the guy from that movie, but he’s had a ridiculous career doing everything. Huge respect for him

Always loved this actor, so good in so many movies. Even the less well known movies, he always, always made them better. And he's still got it as a singer too! Way to go! 🙂
This made me tear up. I mean i believe he’s 100% Philippine American yet played the role of a Mexican American rock and roll legend. La Bamba first came out in theaters when I was about 8 years old in it was one of my favorite movies to watch when I was a kid. And I had never heard him sing this song live and here he sang it like a true Latino with so much passion and attitude. We Mexican Americans love this guy and always will.
