Wife of a 35 year UPS employee. They train their drivers to back into parking spaces or pull through because backing into a fixed space is preferable to backing out into traffic. It's all about reducing risk.
^^THIS^^ I have an older car, without a backup camera. So many people walk behind my car despite my hitting the horn twice to get people's attention, (they used to teach it in driver's ed) and they don't even hesitate to see what's going on, this includes folks with small kids in tow. IDK if they are distracted or think it's all my responsibility (peds and drivers share responsibility) but people are just checked out.
@sandra37cooks Oh thx !! That makes sense. I always wondered about that.
omg, i worked for UPS for 2 weeks and i dunno how people can accept slave labor ....and do it for 35 years!
@@michaelayala5394 - Everyone's priorities are different. UPS Benefits (retirement pension and medical) are some of the best in the country. I'm guessing, that probably makes it worth it because those benefits are what his family needs?
Same with firefighters. They tend to transfer that mindset to personal vehicle parking.
Female here. A cop told me years ago that it is much safer to back in to a parking spot because it's easier to drive away if you need to get away fast. Good tip!
I always back in parking spots even at home. â€
I agree that more ppl are backing into parking spaces and I think most cars/trucks have backup cameras these days making it easier backing into spots.
Yeah the camera is quite useful when you're not that good at parking!
It's frustrating when the person backing into a space doesn't know how and after 20 minutes traffic in either direction is well salty toasty and just plain fed up.đ
Came to say this. Backup cameras became mandatory for all new cars in 2018.
Iâm the worst backer-upper on the planet đ I canât back up straight to save my life. Iâm a parking menace đ
Thatâs me too!!!
Iâm with you! I go in straight and back out very carefully.
The melodramatic backing into a space đ
Melodramatic parking lol I think the one being melodramatic was Dr Dray.
Dr Dray is awesome with her word choices
Had me laughing
You are totally right about this! From Colorado, and the "truck people" have that ritual, Including my partner. I hate it, even when I am inside the truck.
â@mogui6438 Do you realize how hard it is to actually park evenly between lines When pulling in with a long wheelchase vehicle?
22:59 đđ Dr. Dray is in a MOOD todayđ She gave me the giggles.
đđâ€â€â€â€ sheâs our online bestie â€â€â€
Itâs generally easier to back a truck in! The rear wheels are a fixed pivot point and they can âcut the cornerâ more sharply than the front end, so you donât have to worry as much about swinging around. Itâs also a lot safer for other people the parking lot; where we sit in relation to the length of the vehicle means that, no matter how slowly and carefully you back out of a spot, there are blind spots and the likelihood of backing into something is increased. Improved visibility protects me and other drivers. â€
Then why does it take them 2 to 3 times longer to get in straight!!!
Well said!!
Nothing is ideal if you are parked next to an oversized truck.
Yes! I have only owned cars and recently traded in for a RAM truck. It is 100% easier to maneuver if you back-in to a parking spot rather than pull-in. Iâm still getting used to this beast of a unit, so I usually get frustrated and just park further away from other vehicles đ
perfect reply
I love hearing Dr. Dray being kinda negative in her car đ itâs so funny for some reason
I think itâs the heat!đ„”đ
Yes, she was cracking me up! I love a little Dr Dray tirade. It sounds like me, when Iâm talking to myself half the time. đ
Her tirades are always kinda sweet Lol
I love clinique take the day off! As a paper planner girl, I prefer a calendar year Jan-Dec. Have a great weekend Dr Dray!
Driving forward out of a space is much safer than backing out. A lot less accidents that way.
Backing into a space is actually safer than backing out of a space. Some companies even required it at their workplaces for this reason.
The new development areas have back in stall parking only! It really is easier to back in than back out.
My company required it for field employees at their places of work so for some it is probably their habit; Iâm a terrible parker so donât attempt it.
Youâre a woman mansplaining. Oh my!
most cars nowadays have backup camera, so it's a lot easier to gauge the distance while backing up rather than driving forward while looking over the hood of the car
Most accidents happen when backing out. And with all the oilfield companies in the Houston area that have required their employees to reverse in to park for years seems like at some point you'd hit a critical mass of people who practice it đ€·
Situation: a lady backing out of her space willy-nilly. Not looking at all, just backing up. I couldn't get out of her way because of the line of cars behind me. After she backed into my car, she actually jumped out of her car and said, "Didn't you see me backing up?!" Of course she was charged with the accident.
Daily eventsâŠ. People hop in usually large vanâŠ.donât bother looking aroundâŠjust pop in reverse & gođĄđ€đĄ
Hahaha what a great response. People are wild these days!
I had to YANK my 3 year old out of the way of a small ford escape the other day because she didnât see me walking right behind her in the parking lot, and she definitely didnât see my toddler. I back in everywhere I can.
For salads, we mostly eat lettuce type salads. This spring I started making bean salads: open and drain different cans of whole beans and add a vinaigrette dressing so they marinate in the fridge. I've added canned beets, corn, olives, tuna, green beans, mushrooms, etc. Add a little dressing if preferred.
I prefer salads that are not all lettuce with a small amount of stuff on top!
@@jbridges9574 I agree. Since making the bean salad we haven't had a lettuce salad and haven't missed it.
I can completely relate to your description of how dramatically some people circle around, pull up and back inđ
You are correct about backing in đ€· I totally agree with getting acclimated to the hot weather! Thanks for another great video. Five Below has really nice rugs, like a canvas with print. Great for covering high traffic areas!
I agree with all the comments about backing in to a parking spot. When you can drive out of a spot it's so easy to see pedestrians and other vehicles. The only place I drive into a spot is Costco, because it's easier to load the trunk. The newer cars with cameras and sensors now make backing out less risky.
Yes, itâs easier to back into a space with any vehicle once youâre used to it, rather than going in forwards. Plus that also makes it easier when you have to get out later and reduces the risk of crashing into a moving vehicle you may not see
I don't know I had a friend who spent so much time trying to back into a space that I thought we were going to be late for the event. Obviously doesn't know how to back in well
OMG! This is such a problem in Seattle that some parking lots have signs that say no backing into spots! But the stadium makes everyone back in so it expedites the exiting quicker. Mixed messages everywhere đ
That's Seattle for you!đ (I live an hour north)
It's actually safer to pull out than to back out of a parking spot if there are other cars in the lot. Reduces risk of collisions and insurance payouts.
@@Kiterpuss Yes, we know which is why they require it. But for an entire parking lot to back in takes more time.
I have worked for courier companies for many years, safest to back into a parking spot! Trained to do it that way. Because you can see where you are backing before you do it rather than backing up into who knows what or someone when you are pulled into a spot :)
I went to the one in Moore ok. They did a tribute to Toby Keith with the fireworks it was great. They encouraged bringing outside food and drink. water bottles were sold for $2.00. None of the food was overpriced.
I had to chuckle on your parking space comment. I live in FL and I also have seen so many parking backwards into the parking space lately. I think it is because so many have relocated here from the North. I have been told that if they need a battery jump during a freeze it is easier to access.
I was taught early on by my dad to back into spaces whenever possible in the event of an emergency or overcrowding of the parking lot so I can get out ASAP.
Hey there Dr DrayâŠthanks for this video! Always fun.
I too grew up in the Midwest. I have not had the pleasure of trying the âsaladsâ you mentioned, but I loved a concoction my Gram would prepare. It was line jello, cream cheese, cottage cheese and crushed pineapple. So, so good especially in the summer. I donât eat that way any longer, but what a lovely memory of her, and our time around the table. đ©”
Doc is the best.đ love her energy. "Freedom over Texas" got me chuckling đ đ
Husbands a combat vet- â stay readyâ We all even back into our driveway.
I love how you look at everything in the store, even kids stuff. It's so much fun to browse around and review items âșïž
Yes! It is easier to enter a parking space with a long wheelbase by backing in.
In Europe, the "aisles" of parking lots are narrower, and the only efficient way to get into a parking space is to back in - even in the Honda Accord I drove when I lived there.
Dr. Dray, I find you deeply calming to my nervous system lol. I watch you everyday and your vlogs are my favorite. You just have a way of putting me at ease and making me laugh! Thank you for your videos!!!
đ thank you for making me smile, the get away car was funny.
Yes the backing in situation drives me crazy! We have to wait for these people to try and back into a space⊠itâs so annoying!
You obviously donât drive a truck, so you donât understand. But I can see how it could be annoying when you have to wait for others to do something you donât think is necessary.
@@misty4483 lol I grew up on a farm so Iâve driven many trucks including the big trucks we used to haul barley and sugar beets. đ

May I say, Dr. DrayâŠyou are hilarious!!! Of course excellent information and content, too.
Skincare and stationary, my two faves! Thankyou â€ïž
This whole video just cracked me up. It would be so fun to go through a store with you and just listen to you getting so excited like a kid. About erasers! Made my day.
I always back in to a spot because I have a very small convertible, live in the South with the monster trucks and it is safer when pulling out to be able to see what is coming around the
the truck.
In the military my husband was trained to back in a parking spacecs so he could leave quickly.
Happy Saturday Dr Dray so excited to be here i live for thisâ€ïž
Me too!
Morning!

The car verbiage Dray is one of the best shades of Dray! Vlog entertainment great stuff!
I live in S FL. I do whatever is likely to provide more shade (if there Is any to be had) depending on the time of day/direction of sun.
I love planners too! I always buy the Jan-Dec layout. My favorite pens are the Pentel Clena in the .05 tipđ
I usually pull in & go into the parking place in front of me whenever possible! Iâm retired so I have everyday off except for doctor appointmentsâŠUGH! We stayed in & stayed cool on Independence Day, it was way too hot & humid! I use that makeup balm too & like it really well. I agree with the Moroccan bottle, I use that too & sometimes if Iâm not paying attention it will squirt everywhere, what a mess! Iâve heard of frog eye salad but Iâve never had any. Great video. Have a great weekend! â€ïž
đ We back up our cars! Sometimes it's easier đ I worked in the morning. Off by noon!đ Salads where I'm from include lettuce and other greens, Southern California we have a fair amount of vegetarians and vegans so plant based foods are popular as well as gluten free. We have a large middle Eastern population so veggies are a must here!
Omg the shout out to strawberry pretzel salad!!! Absolutely DELICIOUS â€ïžđâ€ïž
Looking good Dr Dray!
My dad (landscaper) drove trucks his whole life and would always back in to a parking space. Even with a whole trailer attached to the back. It was easier for him that way and for others.
I drive a Honda Odyssey, and I always back in. It didnât come with a front camera, but it did come with an amazing back camera, which makes it much easier to back in over pulling in. As for the truck in an empty parking lot⊠Your guess is as good as mine.
Same! Between my great mirrors and camera visibility, backing in/driving out just makes more sense and is easier /more convenient
You are so right about massive trucks always backing in next to you. I had one park so close to my car that I could not open the door on the driverside and get into my car about a week ago.
Yep! Grew up in Minnesota and have both snicker salad and frog eye salad. Also the strawberry salad†Snickers salad also has Granny Smith apples in it along with mini marshmallows and vanilla pudding in it though, not chocolate syrup
I rarely comment, but you hit a nerve! As someone who drives a full-size pick up truck, I can assure you it is absolutely safer for us to back in. When you arrive at a parking lot, you can visually see who is around you and safely back into a spot. When you leave a spot, it is far safer to be able to pull out than it is to back out as there are large blind spots in the extended cabs and the height alone makes it challenging to see a child who may run behind you. Also, I do live in a cold climate, and it's far more difficult to get a jump on your battery if you are pulled into a spot. It's also easier to push through a snowbank that may have been plowed in front of you when exiting a spot. Please believe me when I say, it's not about being "cool", it's safe & smart!
Next year try the city of Stafford 4th of July events. Thereâs an orchestra concert (indoors), then you stay for the fireworks. Since itâs a smaller city, getting out of the parking lot is OK. The downtown events are nuts. Katy Mills gets really crowded too. Also, I was eating strawberry pretzel salad while watching your video - so good.
I see all the pros of backing a truck in, for me, I cannot back in between 2 cars. Easier to pull in and back out, where I don't feel at risk of hitting anyone. And in smaller parking lots you can really cause delays if you are backing in and don't nail it first try. I've seen some parking lots ban the practice, usually smaller ones.
I make the strawberry jello pretzel salad- but PLOT TWIST- with raspberry! LOLOLOL. They make the Vacation sunscreen scents as perfumes too, lol, I got one in my fab fit fun box, it smells great! Love your videos!
Completely agree on the backer-innersâŠ.đ âmelodramaticâ heeheehee
Thanks Dr. Dray . I just love shopping with you.
I love when you go shopping!!!đ
Happy Saturday dr dray love your vlogs have a great weekend â€đđđ xx
Morning!
The battery jumpstarts are awesome. Bought one for my son last Christmas - sat in his trunk for 6 months. Had a friend's car die in our driveway - that thing started it up immediately - so much easier than using another car. It's really annoying if someone wants to back in and is making a bunch of people wait on them to do their special maneuver.
I love this about the backing in craze in the last few years. I wondered the same thing ha ha. The things we notice! Btw I loved your recommendation of Demon Copperhead. Great book. Would love more recommendations!
Happy Saturday, Dr. Drayâ€
I hate backing into a space But I do find a spot where I can pull through to the space ahead and park so I can pull out head first. Do not care if itâs far from the store, I donât mind walking.
I grew up with a garage that required backing in. Itâs still easy for me.
Not only is it easier to see pedestrians and get out of the spot, it can save one from a ticket in the case of an accident. (In IL the person going in reverse is always at fault.)
I always back in. Easier to get out of the parking lot in most crowded places in Houston. BUT more importantly, the rear view camera allows more precision parking when there is no front camera.
not me being violently hungover and thinking omg dr dray too?! and then realizing she meant the fire alarm đđđ
My husband ALWAYS backed in to spaces lol! With our Corolla or sienna van. He hates backing out of spaces đ Iâm like you just wanna show off đ heâs like NO, I like my life easy when I leave somewhere and I can leave as soon as possible đ
Super thumbs up talking about dessert salads omg strawberry đ pretzels yes please â€â€â€â€â€
My friend from Wyoming introduced me to Strawberry Pretzel Salad. She said it was a staple at Thanksgiving dinner. Itâs really good; very sweet. Iâm from west Texas and had never heard of it before. Growing up, my family holiday salad was Green Jello Salad made with cottage cheese, green onions, and a dollop of mayo.
I live in Fargo ND and I love the strawberry jello pretzel salad. It is amazing!!!
Backing up gal here with large truc, love itâŠdoing for yrs. And yes Clinique take the day off is bomb and âŠ.the Clinique moisture surge overnight mask rocks!, dewy, unscented, non greasy!!đ©”đ«°đŒđ„°
I'm not opposed to backing into a parking space at all. It's much easier to pull forward to get out. What irks me is people that back in crooked and are over the line of the next parking space. It also irks me when people have to make several attempts to back in basically stopping traffic. I had the day off for July 4th. I was invited to a cookout but opted to relax at home. Happy Saturday, Dr Dray! Fun vlog. Hope you have a blessed evening. đ
I pull up in a parking spot so all I have to do is pull out. People do NOT pay attention when they back out. When you have a truck next to you when you have to back out it's hard to SEE who's coming. Works out perfect the way I do it. Love your videos!!
SoâŠ. You back your car up in the Space.
Exactly Denise.
?? "pull up,and pull out?" That's a lot of pullin' !
I always pull in. I have noticed more people backing in.â€
I live in the outskirts of Chicago and I learned about Frog Eye salad about eight years ago. It is made with a pasta called Ancini de Pepe. I love the strawberry pretzel salad! What a yummy combination of flavors. Something about the sweet and salty combination with the cream cheese filling-yum! Great video today, Dr. Dray!
You shop like me! đitâs distressing, itâs like a museum but also dangerous if you spend too much. Yesterday, I went to Ulta, Dollar tree, Loweâs, a se was planning on going to more stores but I had to make it short. My new fun thing is furniture stores and taking measurements and pictures to vote and decide what can fit in my room đ
I don't back in any where, I do try to find spots where I can pull through. If not I just pull in, but I also park far out in parking lots where no one wants to park. Now my hubby backs in just about every where we go.
Haha yes when you said that about trucks being so dramatic! It made me laugh! Unless itâs a delivery truck I donât see the reason for it. I have started using a daily planner for work. I use the Jan through December .â€â€. Clinique take the day off is my favorite ! The one product next to my cerve oil cleanser that I will finish up!

Hi Uncle Charlie! Happy Saturday!! I hope you're having a nice weekend. Peace, joy and many blessings, my friend. đđâ
I drive a big 4 door truck and LOVE to back into parking spots! My truck has 10 cameras on it, sensors on the front and back and a big screen on the dash. I love honing my backing skills! I have a trailer that I pull my Polaris Ranger on and this has made hitching the trailer to the back of the truck easier as well! I'm a farmer and have been driving a truck for years! Not trying to be dramatic, just keeping my skills sharp!
As a professional Truck Driver, my husband will sometimes back in to spots because itâs actually safer for when you go to exit your parking spot. Looking forward rather than having to look back, which is unnatural especially in a high traffic area. A lot of professional drivers are TRAINED to back into a parking place first. Itâs a SAFETY aspect they teach.
As a larger vehicle driver, I can confirm it is easier to back in to a space IMO.
I agree that July seems too early to put out school supplies (what a bummer reminder for kids trying to enjoy their summer LOL), but in some places classes start back up in August (mid-August in my city). For families with several children and especially if they're on a tight budget, it gives the parents time to buy all the needed supplies a little at a time, I think, so the sooner they begin, the better.
I've lived in a part of the country that gets triple-digit temperatures from late spring to around early fall all my life, and while you have to learn to live with it, there's really no getting acclimated--meaning, you're going to want and need the AC 24/7. And once you get to my age and are dealing with hot flashes--forget it! đđ Walking from my car to inside stores or buildings, taking out the trash and bringing the bin back in after it's been picked up--those are examples of times I'll be outdoors in the heat. Otherwise, no. đ
The backing up into parking spaces--I think everyone's done a good job of explaining why some choose to do so (although, in the situation you explained, with the parking lot being empty, I'll agree it didn't make much sense). Also, some lots are small and the parking spots are just very tight; I can think of several doctors' offices around town, for example, where pulling out in the "normal" way (in reverse) makes it very difficult.
Have had all three of the salads you mentioned! The pasta in the Frog Eye Salad is Asini De Pepe (hope I spelled that right!). It has gotten hard for me to find! The Snicker Salad I've made has apples in it too! Strawberry Pretzel Salad is the bomb!! I'm from Iowa--all are popular here!
I back into spots about 50% of the time, depending on the parking situation. I have been hit by a car who didn't see me in a parking lot and now I don't take chances. I think it's definitely safer, especially when you're in a big truck that has limited visibility . I even back into the spots in my parking garage because I think it's easier to pull out.
Also, I have a couple of sports cars with very low front bumpers. And so sometimes backing into a spot is better because then I don't scrape the front of my car on those concrete parking bumpers that are in the front of some spots.
LOL! Your rant about backing into a parking spot is hilarious! I have wondered the same thing myself though. There does seem to be a following for the procedure. I just don't know what I am missing though.
Vlog Day! Woohoo! đđđ
Morning!
Dr DrayâŠ. Love your videos!!
Iâm seeing waterless skincare around alot lately, can you do a follow up???
"rob the joint" sent me lol
Yes, I still use paper agendas and also a paper journal! I have used Quo Vadis school agendas for years, but I just changed over to a small, independent diary-maker called Papier Tigre. I really love the January to December agenda I got from them! I use it for my freelancing business.
I also have a Leuchhtturm book I use for logging things like meetings and other stuff. I do all of that in a bullet journal way, though without tasks or all of the fancy drawings and such. I like this diary as well.
When I was still working, ALL of my coworkers (almost all men) backed into their parking spots in the garage. They all drove company cars that were almost all SUV's. I figured it was just a guy thing. I agree with you about bath bombs. I am pretty much a shower person. The only time I really took a bath rather than shower was after some surgery where I had to soak in some epsom salt water. I love my planner. I started using one when I was working and I put everything on it. Mine has monthly along with a weekly planner and places for notes. I love office/school supplies. Don't need as much anymore but I love shopping for them.
You crack me up. I've noticed the backing into parking spots too. Thought it was a macho thing.
