  • Three trains at Wingello and four at Exeter in the NSW Southern Highlands on the evening of Saturday 30th December 2023, including PN and QUBE-operated intermodals, two Endeavours, an XPLorer and the main highlight of SSR's 3242 loaded grain.
I also take a look at the history of Exeter Station, including the buildings, the origin of its name and the rather tragic accident on 13/03/1914.
    Starring Duck Wilson as himself.
CONTENT WARNING: I discuss the 1914 Exeter Railway Accident in this film from 06:15 to 06:55. Some people don't like this sort of thing so viewer discretion is advised.

    • 158F: Wingello For Hog... which this film carries on from.
This video can be viewed as "Wingello For Hogmanay Part Two" as it carries on from where that film left off. Beginning at Wingello, there are three trains to be seen (clips excised from W4H) before we head north to Exeter. There, the history is spread across those four trains as the evening presses on, eventually culminating in the passing of SSR's 3242 loaded grain, the highlight of this film.
3242's slow progress is in fact why this film exists: I had decided not to wait longer at Wingello for it owing to the dying light so headed north to Exeter, which I deemed better-lit, to capture SN65 Endeavour. Whilst there, I was informed of 3242's departure from Goulburn so decided to wait there. The train's slow progress did mean its video suffers much less from the night-time motion blur that plagues the other freighters.
Like Wingello, Exeter is one of my favourite stations in NSW and it's been a while since I last made a video here, so I decided why not do one on 30/12/23? As well as the trains, I look at Exeter's history a bit more deeply than in my last three videos here: • SOV250: The Highland H... (2017), • Exeter On A Winter Mor... (2018) and then • Bundanoon And Exeter (... (filmed 2017, released 2018), which allows me to correct a couple of things from those previous uploads, mainly about the dates of the buildings. I'm still not sure if Platform 2 and its building date from 1891 or are products of duplication in 1915 so I leave this ambiguous here. Answers on a postcard please.
As above, I do discuss the 1914 accident in this film in a bit more detail than in previous Exeter productions from 06:15 to 06:55. Some viewers don't like that sort of thing so discretion is advised. Nothing untoward appears on screen except for one photo of some carriages after the accident.
This film is also the first in the "Location Focus" series (which "Location Shorts" has become) of 2024 - these are intended to be films where the history dominates the film rather than the trains as is sort of the case here; it certainly is at Exeter!
And yes, that is me at 04:27.

I failed to capture C505, 4908 & CLP9 the last time I was on the SHL

The Maldon grainie’s a difficult one to get I find. Out of the five or so trips to the Main South I’ve done since the start of December, I’ve only captured it twice, one of those was pure chance and the other (second) one’s the one in this film.
