The Captain Cook portrait which appears at 01:12 was painted in 1775 by Nathaniel Dance-Holland and is public domain owing to its age.
Tempe is a station I seem to visit quite a lot. And why not? It's quite interesting historically with its 1884 buildings still present, it's got quite a story to tell and offers a fair amount of trains to shoot at the right times of day.
This film was planned to be the most extensive Tempe film I've made to date, covering the history much more deeply than in any of the four or so previous films which have featured the station and a wide variety of trains.
In this film, I look extensively at the station's story, from its opening in 1884 and the buildings it retains through to it becoming a junction in 1931 and subsequently losing this role in 2000. Essentially, I go full ‪@JagoHazzard‬ in the history segment to explore the unique story of this station.
When the action moves to the trains, there are eight, ranging from Tangaras and OSCARs to an Endeavour, an XPT and an XPLorer, although various trains appear throughout the history segment too from Millenniums to C sets and even F1.
The star of the show is of course 42103 "Chumster" passing through at the head of SRS' "Australia Day Picnic Train" to Kiama, though I may have been expecting it to pass Platform 2 rather than Platform 4...
All in all, this is a nice film about a station I genuinely like a fair bit, both for the trains to be seen and the historical story it has. It's a fine addition then to the "Location Focus" series, alongside Rhodes, Lapstone and Exeter, and being an Illawarra Line station, it means we've got one from each mainline!
