It was supposed to be doms, yeah. However, it’s kinda implied that he just let Brian keep it. Even at the end, when Brian is trying to give him the keys, there’s a hesitation/uncertainty that conveys “are you sure? It’s your car.”

It's definitely the '70 Charger. When I think of Fast and Furious iconic cars, I think of that car and the story behind it and why he didn't drive it. Aside from the impossible burnout wheelie, that was probably the most iconic drag race in all of the movies when they raced to beat the train.

I remember as a kid seeing that charger in the garage and it was just so exciting, the build up and how they reveal the car adds so much to its coolness.
Dom's dad's words about 70s chargers being so well designed that they could last for decades if taken care of is so funny.

The producers of the Fast franchise should watch this and realize that most of us like Doms cars and the series as a whole to be more grounded in reality. Top 3 cars are all from the first movie while the more ridiculous ones all went at the bottom. Maybe just give us nice fast cars? Maybe we don’t need a 1968 charger that is actually an autobot capable of time travel to prevent 9/11 and also get Marty and his hover board.
This is just a small cross section of car nerd fans, producers realized they make way more money appealing to general mass audience instead of car culture people so the series is now heist/action movie with stupid stunts. People know James bond's 60's Aston Martin too, but they're more wowed by the newer models with crazy guns and gadgets even tho they can't name the car and usually destroyed in 5 minutes

Technically the supra was also doms car. Brian bet his eclipse and lost to dom making it doms eclipse, but after it was destroyed he said the iconic line "you owe me a 10 second car" So Brian went ahead and helped them build the supra, he may have been driving it throughout the movie but dom still owned the car
I'm glad that the most unrealistic cars with magic magnets and EMP station got the last places.

At the time of box cars the grandnational was one of the sleakest sexiest ones out there. And one of the fastest. They put a lot of time and effort and really made it to last.
I love that era of American cars. Regals, Grand Nationals, Monte Carlos, Grand Marquis, even the itty bitty Shadow. 80s boxy cars speak to me.
The GNX was best of the bunch. A swan song for that age of cars.

i reckon i was about 7 when i first saw fast and furious. i was at a 10yo’s sleep over and pulled my first all nighter and the black civics with all that underglow is easily the most iconic and memorable scene
FUN FACT - In the original script, Dom's Dad's car was a FWD Buick Regal. After discussion with the car consultants they changed it (for the better IMO) to a Charger. So later in the series when Dom drives the GNX, it's a reference to the OG script Regal.

Yes my favorite is the 70 charger and what’s funny is it has a 69 tail light so more than likely it’s a 69 with a 70 front grill or and bumper, which back in my day before Mopars got so expensive I had a 69 Charger RT with a 383 BB and B5 blue paint

9:30 I am going to have to disagree on that FD RX-7. I am mostly a classic American car guy, but the FD is awesome, however with those mods... Lets just say I'd put replacing pop-up up and down headlights as a bigger travesty then putting a Prius motor in a '69 Charger!
