Hey everybody, 2021 is here and we are going to be starting another new series very shortly. This video has recently picked up in views again so I figured I would leave this here. The new series will start with map making, then moving into building up a city in the region. If you are interested, be sure to subscribe to the channel :D

@Total Timewaster
What mods do you use for this playthrough, is there a mod you use that lets you build so precisely or what are those green and yellow farm fields? Are there any building mods you use? Thank you
I can't even connect to the first highway without causing a traffic jam.
Are yo uh my city planner
Lucky. I can't even start the game without immediately going into debt
FishingHobo I think it’s normal to go into debt early on as you have only services and no economy
FishingHobo I use the unlimited money tool (it’s already in the game and it appears when you are choosing how you want your city to be (map, temperature etc.) So it’s not a mod or anything
Please change your profile picture
That feeling when you realize that your city has like 8k and it looks terrible
i bought the game 2 weeks ago and im already getting 69k population with the 1st six hours i starting a new map
@@BangEmBeatZ cool
@@BangEmBeatZ which map, I sorta need tips, cuz I restarted both of my 20k+ cities in a row
Exohache Oxygeone any map is fine but I’d suggest a flat map with just a river because building around mountains and rivers can be challenging at first
Eden valley is a really good map if you have the green city DLC
This is the city every player dreams of building 👍
💯
But then you remember there’s natural disasters and just have to throw a meteor onto your city cause why not

Not only 250k population.
The city itself is amazing.
I know really. So creative and the city is beautiful. I wish that the city is was real, because I want to live there.
Rorttyra Meas me too
Chara I just started a city today and I look at how screwed up my train lines and highways are and then I look at this and I am just dumbfounded 😂
Chara best city ever ! 😀
and if the city was real . i will live there forever
I wish I had a mind like this.
Every time I play cities my brain says "GRIDS. GRIDS. MUST MAKE GRIDS."
Toxic Timewaster (Ryan123220) That is good advice. Next time I'm able to play I'll put that into consideration because I always say "This game I'll do it different", but it always looks the same. I'll try to make rigatoni instead of disgusting saltines. Thanks for responding, I didn't expect it.
I think MANY of us are in that same boat. I definitely like to keep a grid form for my "inner cities". As most cities are built like that. But while I do try to make my suburbs not so grid like, I most certainly start off that way and have a solid 85-90% grid suburb.
I'm the same way. I have a slight touch of OCD so every time i build a city i want everything to be 100% perfect and i have a hard time making them seem random.
@@donaldleyton4977 - same! -_-
@@donaldleyton4977 LMAO same here😂
Once I deleted a whole city after I already finished making the main roads and some industrial buildings cuz I found out that it's not perfectly lined with the city boundaries
Who else found it strangely satisfying to watch those scaffoldings go up and down?
Yup. That's the only reason I kept watching.
Same here. I even paused 4 minute in so i can watch later, when i'm relaxing.

Oh you mean like with all the clouds. I can totally see how you could have thought that
7:40 Ah yes, Lake Poo, the city's premier tourist destination.
can you place water intake & water treatment drain in the same body? it wouldnt contaminate it?
Jason Kentjana you would need a mod that has a drain with 0% pollution and even then it would likely run out of water and would require to pump water from a river or something
It's a real shitty situation
Alpha woof poop hahaha
I got tired of having to make poop holes... and editing poop holes into my maps. So I finally got some mods that don't cause sewer treatments to produce poop water.
i think in real life this city would be at over a few million. cities skylines isnt the best at its population counter...
Just multiply it by 10 for a more accurate count.
Your PC would catch fire if they didn't scale it down a bit.
No, that high-rise wouldn't hold just 24 people.
It would hold 240, IRL.
I would just like to point out it says 24 HOUSEHOLDS in the high rise, not 24 people.
Still, though. Look at the Tower Block that burned in London recently. Something like 600 people.
Not totally accurate, but that’s an exaggeration a city of 250k would in real life be more like 300k, it’s not that far off, the scale of the map is just so small, even a 25 tile city is pretty small
Finlay Noble it wouldn’t be a few million considering most states are just a few million with states like Texas having multiple large cities with tons of land and having roughly 25-30 million people in the entire state
Bro i have a city with 19,000 population...skyscrapers everywhere...on sim city i had to get at least 50k to get one tall building lol
city is so big, hard to believe it's only 250k
Cities Skylines doesn't have huge residential towers ingame.
u can mod though
its actually population in simcity thats weird. compared to before, simcity puts a multiplier on population after a certain point
Cities Skylines is on a scale where say 1k people is actually 10k, 10 is 100, 100 is 1 mil, and so on. So really the city has 2.5 mil.
That's because every citizen is actually simulated in this game. Having a realistic population number would kill the simulation pretty quickly.
Drinking game: take a shot everytime he builds docks.

Yep that's me!
10,000 Population: Eh, Traffic all good
25,000 Population: I have to rework my road systems
50,000 Population: Fuck, trucks can't get to the industrial area because of bad traffic
100,000 Population: Doubling the motorways so traffic wouldn't slow down and congest as much
200,000 Population: Imma fucked
250,000 Population: Welp, this city is screwed.
NickDaEpic One It helps to have a fleshed out public transit system, apartments close to where people work and very little street parking and limited suburban housing. I try to model NYC as the basis for how I want my city to feel. Cater to public transit (make it free) and keep accommodations for cars on the road at a minimum.
Thank you for the advice but still, Cities: Skylines traffic is terrible, I had a city once that had just over 50,000 residents The industry was literally just opposite the housing (Separated by Motorway, there's a medium sized road that goes over it, there's about 5 of these bridges that go over the Motorway that join the Urban to the Industry) and I had over 20 bus routes going from the housings to the industry, I made all 9 district had free transport, I up the Bus' Budget on the economy panel and yet still traffic was terrible let alone just the industrial area.
Traffic lights are crap. I don't play with mods, btw. Just look at an intersection for a few seconds. Cars turn right when they should have waited, resulting in the cars going straight having to wait. And the lights change too quickly.
Therefore, I try to take my highway system right through the city (to try and eliminate the use of intersections).
I agree with you there. Cities Skylines has to fix the traffic situation, Once pass 50,000 residents, The cities can stop functioning properly because traffic is bad, Usually I build 4 Highways close to each other and use ramps to help get people to the outer lanes and make the intersections over the outer highways, So the outer lanes get clogged, and the inner ones can help traffic get to other places without congestion. Yes, the it dosen't really work, but if you want the inner one to verge off in a different Direction it can do that. And keep the outer lanes going straight, For me it works, but it may not for others. :/
That's weird, I have a city around 500,000 residents but my highways seem to feel abit empty. Albeit I do use infinite money to play around with mass transit. Your idea sounds alot like highway 401 in Toronto, you should check it out if you haven't already (:
From this video, I now understand the quay to success.
bruh this is like 24 tutorials in one thank
Holy crap. I can't make a city without the economy collapsing from a freaking medical outbreak.

My land values, highways, tourist districts and industry are cooler than his, but yeah, other than that, he kicks my ass in the aesthetics department. I'm too much of a min-maxer to allocate so much land to fancy road shapes.
Also, my Industry, highways and tourism probably benefit from expansions that didn't exist when he made this city.
That city actually looks like a real city. The planning and districts and shiw looks like the cities in real life.

1. It's not destruction if it's legal to a certain extent (and in specific locations, hence my "having a law" statement).
2. I beg to differ:

But that's my opinion, I can understand if you just plain don't like graffiti of any type.
@@issabeganovic8822 Its destruction 9/10. Except when permission is given. And those walls would have looked great with a nice coat of snow white.
When I see cities built like this I start to think that Simcity saw it coming when they decided to force map limits...
CS has map limits too. And you start with much smaller space. On Xbox the 81 tiles mod isn’t available so you get a whopping total of 10 tiles.
That’s my biggest complaint with CS, that and you can’t do smooth highway joining/exiting ramps without mods.
@@stephenmartin5766 yes but simcity is city skylines but just with one grid
@@user-ejxomyq yes but some of the Sim City tiles are the equivalent of a lot of tiles in CS. But I know what you mean, and of course CS is better. I just wish they had it to where you could expand as far as you want lol
Is anybody else bothered by the fact that he didn't build an airport?
YES! I noticed it too. In fact I just commented on that fact!
He made a comment stating that he had planned to build an airport but accidentally built other stuff on the place he had designated for the airport, so he ended up skipping it.

LOL I watch videos like this just to get ideas of HOW these players do what they do. I learned something in the 13 mins of THIS video. Quay Anarchy is an amazing thing.
I was like, "HEY! They're using qua ... wait a minute. HOW are they doing that?!" XDD But it's an epic idea. Maybe the next DLC will give us a similar option without the need for a mod.

Hey i was just wondering what assets you used in this video because i would like to find all of them in particular the harbour with road and rail connections. If you had a list or a link to the asset that would be awesome.
All of the growable buildings are just random ones from the steam workshop, and the harbor with a rail and road connection is stock.

No matter how hard i try my cities always look like garbage.
Johan Carlberg if you don't use mods you gotta work hard so ai suggest mods if you don't use them
I agree with Eww It's Him.
I got the new Mass Transit DLC and there are some nice things but, I still found myself using quite a few MODs that I was hoping not to have to use. I did get rid of some that did hog up my RAM but sometimes you really need to have that extra UMPF to do what you would really like to do.
Johan Carlberg I recommend to cheat or mod it to make ur life easier

It looks so cool, I have some questions about it as well only 3 questions though.
1. what mod did you use to get the high walls?
2. How did you not get problems with the pollution spreading into the residential from the factory being so close?
3. How did you manage the waste disposal so you never had that annoying problem of rubbish piling up in buildings?

Great video!
Ill pin your comment and this reply because this comes up often.
This video was made by using a camera mod to save camera position (cant remember which mod). I would record 5-20 seconds at a time with the game running and do the building with the game paused. By the time I had the city complete I had a little over 600 video clips that were then pieced together, sped up and made into this video.
Yeah, I wanted the name of the mod, but thanks for a quick answer anyways!
Its called advanced camera tools or something like that. The mod itself does not provide the ability to build while having a camera to record it all, which is why its not as important as the technique I explained. The mod just makes it so you can go back to the exact same camera location.
It's called "CinematicCamera" if I'm not mistaken. There are no mods called "advanced camera" on the workshop.
you were right, it's called Cinematic Camera and there is an extended version of the mod available steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=785528371&searchtext=camera
