Russian 'Tsar' tank with huge electronic warfare setup on its roof captured by Ukraine

- Ukraine has captured a Russian tank with a huge amount of electronic warfare equipment strapped to its roof in the hope it will make their drones even deadlier. The tank, a modified T-72 dubbed ’Tsar’ REB, took part in a failed attack on the Ukrainian-held town of Terny, located near the Serebryansky Forest, on April 5. Ukraine said the tank took down four of their FPV drones before they identified a weak spot and managed to disable it, then destroyed the rest of the armoured column. The Azov Brigade were then dispatched to try and capture the tank intact so the Ukrainians can study the Russian EW equipment and work out how to evade it. Azov troops somehow managed to sneak out to the tank under cover of darkness, repair it without the Russians noticing, restart the engine and then drive it back to their lines. The operation was carried out despite Russian lines being located just a few hundred yards away and with observation drones circling overhead. Azov troops were seen posing with the tank after getting it back intact. #russia #ukraine #war

At 1:25 in the video you can see the driver of the Russian tank deliberately crashed it into the stalled tank so as to end the mission and save himself. I suspect this is happening with Russian tanks all along the front line.

Its a simple signal jammer, Ukr technician dont need to study anything that its already of public knowledge. You can make your own jammer in home buying parts from China.

However, a T-72 … is a design that is over 50 years old, or, _half a century._ No wonder those are helpless on a modern battlefield.

It still has a valuable role, but cannot in this day and age just be sent out without proper combined arms support from ground and air. Russia has failed to learned this lesson, hence their enormous loss of tanks (they never adapted the combined arms warfare tactic developed by the US and NATO allies).

Russia uses helicopter, plane, artillery, infantry and armored vehicles in a single position, even in a trench. That was mercenaries fighting alongside Ukrainians, but it seems you are aware of this war.

these captured items confused drones from attacking the tank and sent confusing signals but it can't confuse a mine when it steps on one, hopefully, Ukraine will find who sold it to them or reverse engineer it fast to be used on their equipment and tanks
Those are just jammers, and Ukr no need to reverse anything since its a simple technology of public knowledge, besides it has no effect on ATMs.

No. The 3rd Separate Assault Brigade split off from Azov and became an independent entity. Azov has continued to exist independently and was never rebranded. Basically there was a merger off all the Azov SSO brigades into the 3rd OSHBr but the regular Azov continued to operate as it always had and still exists independently to 3rd OSHBr. This video was not taken by the 3rd OSHBr.

false, they didnt capture an T-80 tank with electronic warfare equipment on it, rather they captured a T-72B3 which couldve had electronic equipment on its cope cage, a photo where they posed by the tank after the ukrainian soldiers posted by the tank after they had captured it. in that photo you can see that its an T-72B3 not an T-80
