    I’m in the same boat as you-new property with pretty much a blank slate. I have to keep reminding myself small progress is still progress. We’re moving the needle forward-one plant, one new garden bed, and one pulled weed at a time. 😅You’ve accomplished much in just the time you’ve been at your new home. Thanks for sharing the journey! I love following along!

    You are making great progress. Yes, indeed, the season is upon us! I don't mind digging up concrete, in fact, I enjoy most garden chores, except maybe weeding, which can be satisfying as well. I have stacked stone borders around my planting beds, and they look very nice. Remember Matthew that you are now on a larger property, and you have to pace yourself, and enjoy the moment! It would be nice if your garden plans are perfectly timed, but if they are not, look at it as an opportunity. Maybe you need to have a planting party! 😊😊Can't wait to see more!

    I've actually mowed about four to five times! Zone 7B, east TN. Having not been home for five months in the fall has put me behind this spring. Too many weeds and not enough time or energy to get it done In a timely manner. But I keep plugging along!

    Hey Matthew, my situation is sort of the opposite of yours. I spent my entire life (70 years ) in NJ. Last year we moved to the gulf coast of Alabama to be with family and our grandkids. We down sized to 1/4 acre. The previous homeowner did absolutely nothing to the landscape. No flowers, trees ,bushes nothing! So i spent last spring and summer planting non-stop. Its looking pretty good but I'm still planting. My heirloom roses (which i ordered with your code) shipped and should be here any day. It's a big adjustment to learn to garden in a totally different climate. Thanks for your great videos .

    We have catmint but also mountain mint which is a native plant. Like catmint mountain mint needs room but consider mountain mint as it is more beneficial to our native insects.

    • @TheSouthernersNorthernGarden
      @TheSouthernersNorthernGarden  Před 5 měsíci +3

      Those are two completely different genus with different behaviors. Catmint doesn't spread like mountain mint will and I would be hesitant to plant mountain mint directly in the ground based on my own ideas of what I'm comfortable planting for spreading plants. I'm growing mountain mint (pycnanthemum muticum) in raised beds in the cut flower garden to control its spread.

I need to do irrigation as well, but we had to buy a new lawnmoer tractor because ou 25 year old that my husband fixed every year for the past 4 years or so...this time the engine kicked the bucket and he could not remove the screws. It was too much to fix it. Maybe I will do the longer runs and do the shorter ones later....ugh, will see! Blessings!

    • @TheSouthernersNorthernGarden
      @TheSouthernersNorthernGarden  Před 5 měsíci +4

      You are early! I'll probably order some things from ColorBlends as soon as they open for orders mid Summer and it will largely depend on how many bed spaces I'm able to create this Spring. So I have NO IDEA right now! For bulbs, like many other things, I try to focus on those that are going to return reliably for me - so there will be few (if any) tulips.
