I bought the lot beside my house and beside the house behind me. So 2 lots front to back of each other. I’ve been just clearing. It’s just 2 undeveloped lots. And I’ve gotten A Lot done by myself starting in fall last year. And it’s because of watching your channel and a few others. You are a light! You’re an inspiration and a natural born teacher and motivator.

Hi Matthew, I love seeing your plans. Tbey all look great. I am in the UK and have a tiny garden only 45 feet square. I moved in about 6 months ago, but it is a property that comes will my job, ßo I will only be here for 5 years. The people before me didn't do any gardening. The whole garden had stone mulch. It has taken me a lot of hard work to move and get rid of all the stones. I have made the flower bed larger and hope to add some evergreen plants as well as a few hydrangeas. Be light!

Your closing reminder to "Be a light" is succinct yet motivational. Visiting your channel allows us a place to NOT be reminded of the world full of hate and provides respite and peace. This was a great, informative video and allows us to orient ourselves on your property and understand your future goals.
I only have a small lot; but over the last thirty years, I've enjoyed watching things sleep, creep, and leap. I plan to try a Gertrude Jekyll Climbing Rose this season so will be paying close attention to your techniques with your new James Galways. Thank you for sharing.

We live on a farm in southern MN although we have “retired” from full time farming..3 years ado we had to have windbreaks taken down as all of the spruce trees were dead or dying..we had planted them about 45 years ago. While it was sad it offered the space to enlarge our veggie garden and a mark out a large hydrangea and rose garden for me. This year I want to add some decorative fencing around this garden that will coordinate with my rose trellis and of course a few more roses!

Thank you Matthew for always being so inspirational!! Feeling so lucky to have someone like you to follow on garden in the same area, it gives me some confidence. We have a west facing slope which is dapple shaded by the trees, and it is such a prefect spot for shade plants. Love love love all colors of heuchera, astilbe, can create my own mophead hydrangea land!! Eeeeek.... so excited!! I know you had rising sun eastern redbud tree in your previous property, have you looked into the Flame Thrower redbud? Oh my.... it has all colors on one tree! I got my groom Springhill Nursery, bare roots, not too expensive.
When it comes to crabapple trees, I thought I was the only one who had so much trouble with the trees, they did like 3 years after planting, poorly performed.
I'll have to install the drip irrigation system first, which I saved your 2 videos taking about it, so i can watch and learn as I go.

Yep, I’m in kind of the same boat…an acreage that didn’t have much planted at all just full of wild bush and trees, lots of which had to be taken down.
We too need to get irrigation to the different planting areas but are running water lines only to the areas with then place posts for the taps and hose reel. Because we have a well and the property is so large we do not want to fight with the hard water clogging up sprinkler heads every couple of years and only knowing about a clog when the area is dead.
It’s ok in our case as we are both retired so have lots of time to go out and water or put down a sprinkler.
I miss your full ending comment… In a world full of hate…it was beautiful!

I'm excited to follow along as your gardens develop! We moved in September and the only plants on the property were 3 sad Arbs they stuck in the yard. I have the entire front all drawn and planned out, and plants ordered. I'm at a loss for the backyard. I'm in Cincinnati, hope to get lots of inspiration from you!

I’m really looking forward to watching how you do the water/irrigation. I have purchased a property and I built a few garden beds last spring, one shade and one sun both perennial beds. I do add some all season color with a few annuals tucked her and there. This will be my second season in this new house & I really want to build a couple of veggie beds and grow some vegetables. However, I have one hose spigot in my back yard and I’m really interested so see how you get water where you need it to go. I know I’m in for a ton of work. Also, I’m needing to put the CZcams down and get some of these seeds I purchased started! lol. Thank you for the update. And I just finished the video you put out about you, your education and your background. I appreciated that very much.
Looking forward to the growing season this year and seeing what you accomplish. I hope the folks that bought your house call you often about getting stuff!! lol 😊♥️

Grew up in a house with manyature trees. It was beautiful with Hostas and lily of the valley. But in spring there had been tons of tulips that were huge and beautiful for spring beauty. Other wise just a few colorful plants. Bit I do live a shade garden.
Not many plans this year have an upcoming surgery and will take some time to recover.
However ladt fall I planted a Royal Star magnolia and a snowball bush and many tulips. Looking forward to that.

Hi Matthew, how exciting! This is Annie starting on blank 5 acres in Central Ohio. What do you think about adding a flower shed like Garden Answer? Or will the pole barn be sufficient for you? I need to build an enjoyable space to do gardening chores. Do you plan to clear out the native shrubbery in your woodlands and put decorative shrubs or area or just tidy them up? I love big root hardy geraniums for shade. I got berries from Indiana Berry, their raspberries are thriving and blackberries and hardy figs are still establishing, but the blueberries perish. Love your videos!

Are you going to plant some dahlais in your cut flower area? You had beautiful ones at your last place.

Looking forward to seeing your progress! I believe I saw crops on the drive side of your property. Have you considered the potential of overspray of weed control from the farmland onto your property? I’m especially concerned with the roses being planted beside the barn. I live in north Alabama in the middle of cotton and soybean fields.

I luv your channel and your thoughtfulness. I am leaning more toward permaculture and native plantings. Do you have any thoughts on this?

Do what makes you happy! I’m not super experienced with or have studied permaculture, but part of my locating the cut flower garden where it is located is because it is downhill and water should flow to that area when it rains. It’s something I’d like to get more into after I build out my ornamental gardens more.

Yeah I have 30 gardens at memorial Park in New Kensington Pennsylvania and it's at the park and I've been doing it 1820 years out there and 30 gardens and I just love it and Ethiopians or one thing I put quite a few in of they're beautiful cost a little bit more than the regular but they stand up straighter and they don't get the have the trouble that that most regular panties do so I recommend that's a good okay talk to you later then thank you

I purchased all new metal raised garden beds and hopefully installing some sort of drip irrigation. If you have any suggestions I’m definitely open. I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease last year which made gardening in July and August extremely difficult. I’m not giving up though just trying to figure out how to make it easier on myself.

I just found your channel yesterday and I've really enjoyed watching and learning. I lived in central Virginia for over 30 years and have recently moved back to NE Ohio where I grew up. One of the trees I miss the most from Virginia is the magnolia.
I've planted 3 different magnolia bushes since I've been back but I would love to have a southern magnolia. I'm in zone 6A. Do you think that planting one or two here would be okay and would I have to do anything in the few really cold windy winter days we can have up here? I'm about an hour south or Lake Erie and we do not get a lot of lake effect, just occasionally.

I don’t know. I would recommend you look around locally. If your garden centers are not carrying them, then they may not thrive. I’m about as far up as I’ve seen them recommended.

I planted a Brackens Brown magnolia last summer . It’s a very small one but it did produce a few flowers for me. Hopefully I’ll get a few more this year. ❄️🫠💚🙃
