    Fantastic beneficial insect program. A powerful response to overuse of pesticides. Good to know we share a love of apricot roses. So pretty!

      It is an exciting program for sure! Previously, when I was in the garden center I always try to nab the plants that have the sachets on them if the garden center hasn't removed them so I can bring them back to the garden. :)

    Great information! I LOVE good bugs! Thanks for the heads up on this program! A great example of the tiny wasp is the tomato hornworm you might find that looks like it has rice growing out of it! Those are the baby wasps consuming the caterpillars from the inside out! If you see one let it stay where you find it, the caterpillar will not eat anymore, and leaving it there will allow the newly hatched wasps to find more to dine on and incubate more wasps!

    Hi Mathew,
    Lacewings are amazing!! So small and delicate.
    We have a few varieties here in NZ, with stripes on their legs.
    Great to know that American horticultural businesses are promoting natural ways to cope with pests.
    In New Zealand orchardists and smaller growers have been doing this in a large way for at least 10 years.
    We pride gardening under the Permaculture principles.
    Jo😊 Enjoy gardening eau naturale.
    If you see any Ladybird beetles, they gobble up aphids, quick smart.

    Hi Matthew! This was a very interesting video, and as always, you explain everything so well. It also helps that you have a very nice voice to listen to. I was going to ask about the holes in your rose leaves, but someone beat me to it. ;-) I hope you can figure out what is snacking on them. Thank you so much for sharing!

      No idea 🤷🏻‍♂️. I’ve never had a whole lot of pest issues in the garden, so I’m not super great at damage identification other than spider mites.

      @@TheSouthernersNorthernGardenHi Matthew, this looks like Sawfly Larvae. They are tiny green worms on the underside of the rose leaves. Jenny from Creekside suggested Beyer 3 in one spray and a product called Fertaloam which is a concentrate that is mixed with water and watered in the soil. The rose takes it up as defence. I’ve found Safers 3in 1 here in Manitoba but haven’t found Fertaloam. I know this isn’t a beneficial inscect, but that’s the only thing I’m able to use. 🇨🇦👏🇨🇦

      @TheSouthernersNorthernGarden  Před 3 měsíci +1

      That’s inorganic and would negate my use of beneficial.

      If there are no beneficial insects against Japanese Beetles, that tells me that bugs don't even like those boogers!!

  • @Redbudwoods
    @Redbudwoods Před 3 měsíci +1

    Thank you for this info…
    I would very much like to purchase a few roses but hesitant. I have battled June bugs in my Ohio garden. ( I pulled a porcelain vine because they would draw to it, and decimate the leaves.)
    I have also, been plagued with spider mites.

    I have often wondered how one finds beneficial insects. Your information was very clear and not too technical which is perfect for the home gardener. Would you happen to know if the program is available in Canada?

    • @TheSouthernersNorthernGarden
      @TheSouthernersNorthernGarden  Před 3 měsíci

      It's not yet available in Canada. Shipping bugs is complicated, and this is a brand new program this year that just started last month. Heirloom just started shipping roses to Canada, so I know they would probably love to include this program in Canada too.

  • @GummyVision
    @GummyVision Před 3 měsíci

    Thank you so much for the in depth description of this program!! I signed up & received my first shipment last month - 2nd one coming next week. The tags were self explanatory, but I was confused by the bag/sachet bc I didn’t realize there was a hole at the top where the bugs escaped. I looked for info everywhere and even Heirloom Roses beneficial bug video didn’t explain that part. Anyway…thanks again for the video!

    • @TheSouthernersNorthernGarden
      @TheSouthernersNorthernGarden  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Hmm, I'm not sure. I'm not familiar with the sawfly, but they appear to have several natural predators.

  • @dianngaysunas2936

    They are a big that eats rose leaves and make them look like lace but don't bother the blooms
    I use neem oil to combat
