    How can you tell what a safe's fire rating is? What do all the Safe Fire Rating Numbers Mean? What is a 350 fire rating? What is a data safe's fire rating? How is that different from a standard safe's fire rating?
    In this video we explain what the fire ratings for safes mean. We cover the Safe UL Fire Rating, The ETL fire rating, and the KIS/JIS fire rating classifications.
    We also show data on whether or not a safes fire rating really makes it a fireproof safes.
    A safes fire rating means that the content of the safe will not exceed the stated temperature for the specified period of time when the safe is exposed to a fire.
    A safes fire rating is made of three components. The internal temperature that the safe will not exceed when in a fire, the length of time the safe will not exceed that temperature and the temperature that the fire rating test was performed at.
    The UL fire rating for safes R-5573 is the gold standard. It is conducted at significantly higher test temperatures than the ETL and other fire rating classifications. This means that in a standard house fire the safe may actually perform longer (resist the heat of the fire) for a longer period of time than the safe is fire rated for.
    The UL Fire rated safes also go under an explosion test. The must pass this test to get the UL certification. Optionally, the safes may also have a safe drop test done. This test is a 30' drop test to see if the safe opens and simulates the safe following through the floor of a three story building.
    If you are not protecting valuables, but are focused on protecting paperwork, an inexpensive safe, like a Sentry safe will do the job just fine for you.

    Thanks for the video. It was very informative. I have a question. I'm looking for a long gun safe that can also store documents and a flash drive. Instead of purchasing a data fire rated safe, is there a small fire rated container ( it doesn't have to lock) that I can place the flash drive into and place that container in the paper rated safe.

      Almost any small fireproof safe place in a larger safe, with a fire rating, should give you enough protection. The insides of your gun safe would maintain the temperature under 350 and the small fire rated safe in that safe would not be exposed to temperatures above 350.

    Just ordered a sentry safe ...I only looked at the fire ratings not realizing just because it's a "safe", doesn't mean it's secure..

      Those safes seem to be of similar build. Whether or not they are good safes for you depends on what you plan to put in them. Check out our other videos:

      @@bovlitawfik3225 I cannot speak about the Mesa safe because we do not sell them. But that Hollon safe is a KSG certified rating. It has been tested and certified for 2 hrs.
      These are not burglary rated safes, they're recommended primarily for fire protection.

      I know that you sell the Hollon safe but the lock itis good enough?
      Itis plastic Material ?

    • @LocksmithRecommended
      @LocksmithRecommended  Před 3 lety

      @@bovlitawfik3225 All electronic locks, even on the high-end safes, have plastic casings. The door thickness and material is what protects the safe. Underneath the lock is simply a small, approximately quarter inch, hole for the electronics to feed through.
      The door on this safe is wrapped in steel but it's not thick because it's not a burglary safe, but still better than a lot of safes at this price point that have plastic casings.

    Could you possibly correct the links to the Sentry safes in the description? The first two currently link to your burglar-rating video instead.

    Does a UL Listed device / equipment automatically means it is Fire-rated?

    • @LocksmithRecommended
      @LocksmithRecommended  Před rokem

      Safes are UL rated for fire and burglary. You just got to see what the UL rating is for.
