  • In this video, we put fire proof bags to the test in a blacksmithing forge. Watch as we subject the bags to extreme temperatures of around 2000 F and see if they can withstand the heat. Can these bags protect your valuable items from the heat of a forge? Find out in this exciting video!

Having been a Firefighter, I can tell you that a house fire can reach forging temps, so using the forge was a good comparison! If the bags were still wet, when subjected to the heat, they could have lesser resistability to the high temperature. I also noticed a change in flame color a couple of times, which usually means that chemicals were present, and would definitely create more heat from the gasses created. All in all, great experiment James! I absolutely enjoy all of your videos! Thanks for sharing, and please keep them coming! 😎👍🏻🔨🔥🔪

What would you use to protect items such as an external hardrive or documents? Is there such a thing?

Hi James, looked like a fair test to me based on my own expectations for something that says waterproof and fireproof, the proof is in the pudding as my mum used to say😀
Speaking of which, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and your loved ones.

Cheers Bob! Merry Christmas! Yeah, I guess you can't expect much out of $7.00 bags... I think an "oven type" heat would be more appropriate than forge

could you do another test this time using a smaller bag and put it in a bigger bag to see if it make a big difference to have a small one inside a bigger one? (like with the Roloway brand that seem the best one)

Good video. I would like to have heard their "rated" spec before you tested 😁

Perhaps soaking them in water may have compromised the fire resistance! I think some have a chemical that foams up in the heat in the cavity of the bag (the walls of the bag) fo keep the interior of the bag cooler.

That's an interesting thought. Wonder if it made a difference or not. It was interesting that the stitching on most of the bags were all burned away. Quickly. Good points my friend. Cheers!

If you don't have a fire resistant safe, the Honeywell concrete fire cases are the best.

I guess they could add to protection of documents if already inside of a fireproof safe
