I have the X max 3... 1st, you need to tighten and adjust your belt tension because it's probably lose, and you are getting artifacts. 2nd, you may need to tweek a few of the settings and those artifacts will go away. No printer prints perfect right out of the box... so a few tweeks and the Qidi will print just as good as you bambu lab.

I can only agree to this statement as a x-plus 3 user myself! Belt tension, especially equal between upper and lower belt needs to be maintained and maybe adjusted to prevent any slack! Then don‘t forget to restart the vibration compensation after adjusting those belts.

Some features which you forget to tell is, that the Qidi has a heated chamber (65°C) and a high max nozzle temperature of 350°C. With this you are able to print some special filaments.

I have an X max 3 and absolutely love it... the bed temp also goes to 120°c, whereas most printers only reach 100°c. Qidi listens to their customers feed back, and instantly got to work and released a ai camera for the gen 3 printers ( x max 3, x plus 3, x smart 3 )the camera I also have, is completely 100% a plug and play and only takes a few minutes to install it. I purchased the camera on pre-sale and got 30% off... it is now on Amazon and costs around 50$. Qidi's customer service can't be beat in the entire industry... I am a qidi customer for LIFE, my 1st printer, and 2nd are qidi x plus 2 and X max 2. Even after a few years of owning them, if anything breaks, goes bad, wears out, or stops working for any reason at all... they overnight replacement parts that day... with no questions asked at all. All they ask for is pics of the parts that need to be replaced for 100% certainty that you and qidi are on the same page, and that they don't send the wrong parts, just incase there is a miscommunication. Any questions, no matter how goofy or serious, their customer service is there for it all. They solve and make right any issues whatsoever, hands-down no matter what!! I am a qidi customer 4 life and only buy qidi printers... That's how good Qidi's customer service is!

Can you print wood filaments with it?

    • @riscdesign

It is great on paper. In practice, it is a terrible machine. Doesn't hold Z, constantly needs adjusting, and constantly clogs the hot end. Heated chamber is no good when the printer itself is unreliable and won't consistently print without problems. I have 3 successful prints on mine. Trying to return it.
My Ender 3 S1 on the other hand works every time, except slowly.
I'd rather pay $1200 for a Bambu X1C and modify a heating element into the chamber on my own than deal with this mess of a printer.

@@riscdesign My X-Plus 3 is working great without issues. I printed already a lot. I think you unfortunately got a bad version of it. This is not the normal case. But if you are unhappy with it and dont give it a new try, then buy the Bambu X1C, it is a very good printer.
You cant reflect your impression with it on all the other qidi printers. Like I say, that is not the normal case, you got a worse machine.

@riscdesign respectfully I have to point out that EVERY printer on the higher end market has issues and needs some kind of tuning, tweaking, and adjustments with settings for the box. I have none of the issues that you are explaining with my X-Max 3. I did have an extremely light VFA pattern on my prints, so light, tho. it can only be seen in super bright light, but yet the layer lines look PERFECT. it almost looks like a lighting trick. that's how light the VFA is with my X max 3. but on my K1 max and X1 carbon... THE VFA IS EXTREMELY BAD on the K1 max, and pretty bad on my x1! I own 3 Qidi tech printers, and I literally just bought my 4th yesterday. My X smart 3 will get delivered next week. BUT my X plus 2 and my X max 2 are years old and are still printing and running perfectly... because anything that has broken, even years later... Qidi overnighted the parts that same day, to fix anything that wears, breaks, or stops working correctly. I am also working with Qidi customer service and their engineers for instructions on the easiest way to swap those smooth idler pulleys out ( every brand puts those smooth idler pulleys on the x axis for some reason! ) to greatly reduce/eliminate that extremely light VFA pattern. Creality has flat ignored me completely, and Bambu labs didn't answer me back until I kept pestering them to answer. Their response was basically "that's is the price to pay for a fast printer, what do you want us to do about it?!." QIDI has been the only company that answered within hours of my 1st email, has overnighted an entirely new hotend, induction probe, new extruder and extruder/hotend base, new cermaic hotend, and hotends upgrades to see if that would help my concerns. They also sent with all those parts, a bunch of other extra parts and upgrades that they have released after I bought my printer, and 2 new bed plates just to make my troubles right. I didn't even ask them for any of this, and they took it upon themselves to make my concerns right instantly and without ZERO fuss, problems, or doubts. You can't beat Qidi's customer service in the 3d printer game. I've never lost Z and have only adjusted it 1 time, and 1 time only... when I 1st bought the printer. But I also have it sitting on a PERFECTLY leveled, AND Braced, metal counter/table, and a perfectly flat marble slab as well. All of my printers are also sitting on the same setup as well. I've never had any issues with my X-max 3 except the VFA that is so light... it can barely be seen in super bright light. They layer lines are are perfect, I've never had a single failed print on my X max 3, and I don't print in ABS... so I have zero use for the chamber heater. But it's an added help if needed. I primarily print in carbon fiber, fiberglass, and kevlar infused filaments... nothing else, and my qidi X max has been a beast with them all. It's better than my X1 hands down at handling those filaments. You can't even use anything much in the X1 filament system except pla and rapid pla. You can't use carbon fiber filaments in it. You can't use fiberglass OR kevlar in it either! The x1 and k1 Max's beds don't heat up perfectly even across the entire bed plate like my Qidi X max 3 can. Both have spotty AF bed Temps across the beds, causing failures with warping if you don't watch it like a hawk and try to rush and start switching settings to try and save the prints. The VFA on the k1 is borderline atrocious. The LIEdar is a joke and a gimmick, and the X1 I have had issues with ghosting.vfa and miss or hit layer line issues. Again, you can't run any industrial filaments through the X1 AMS system. The X1 has the smallest bed out of the 3, and you are forced to print very large prints like "helmets" in pieces and you must do a ton of post processing to get the results QIDI x max 3 prints in one full piece. The K1 max has a smaller bed than the x max, but at least you don't have to print large prints into multiple pieces like the x1. Every printer has its strengths and weaknesses, and that's why I have multiple systems to use them best suited for the job. But out of all 3 printers, I've had the least amount of fuss, tuning, hassle, or problems with my X max 3. The other 2 I let my kids use for stupid little toys.small parts that don't need to look perfect or need a ton of industrial structure or strengths from the prints. You also could have gotten a total lemon with the printer you received for Qidi. It happens with EVERY brand on the market, literally EVERY brand. The difference is that Qidi will work with you to make it right... I put my name on that cause they have been doing for me, for YEARS. You and one other person are the only 2 people I've heard that have such bad complaints about the X max 3. Every video basically complains about the spool holder being in the back, or they must move the printer to get to something, and THEN they must reset the z distance after moving the printer... or how you need to update firmware. There is nothing really about any problems you have described at all. Qidi listens to every customers concerns, complaints, fixes, advice, and suggestions with lightning speed action. Hope you have a great day, and I am sorry to hear you have had such a bad experience with the very printer in my shop that has given me the least out of the 3. But they all can't be winners, and everyone has an opinion. I am not trying to discredit you, but i have had NONE of those issues with mine... and i wanted to explain how much more Qidi's customer service is the best in the industry and can't be beat... period, full stop. Every printer must be tuned for "absolutely perfect print quality" that comes ready to print directly after unpacking it. Have a good one, my man.

I was going to purchase a QIDI X-Plus3 based on your review, but then I remembered that you mentioned there was a QIDI X-Max3 with a bigger build plate; looked it up; saw that it was a couple hundred dollars more; and bought that one instead.

Those spaceships are huge! and look awesome! What is 2nd Dynasty? Are they 3d printable ships and terrain that's TTRPG agnostic? Or what games are they meant to be paired with?

    • @johngames2583
      @johngames2583 Před 6 měsíci +3

Hey, I am a contractor with 2nd Dynasty. They do 3d printable spaceships with both agnostic designs at 28mm scale as well as officially licensed Traveller ships. This video was shared with us and we are so pleased to see the ships being used as a "can it run doom" test for ships.
Lately we also have been adding minis at 1:270 scale that can be use in other sci-fi games. Hope that helps answer. The Type J shown in the video is officially licensed, and the other is a Chimera Cerberus with some modified parts mixed in.

Thanks for the reply and info@@johngames2583 . I haven't heard of Traveller before, but looks like it's been around for decades! I'm just in the dark. :)
Do the ships have an alternate way to fasten the roofs, such as magnets, instead of the clips?
They all look amazing! Definitely going to look into everything more.

Hi I am looking for a bit of advice. Have you or do you know anyone who has printed any of the project Mobius terrain. I am disabled and very new to 3d printing (I have a basic flashforge resin printer)
. My son came across this on my mini factory and fell in love. So it looks like I'm getting a cheap FDM printer. But as I said any info on these terrain sets would be very helpful. Thank you for taking the time to read this. Nigel

I've never printed those STLs but it looks legit. You should message the creator and ask about print settings and supports. I looked at their FB page and saw some small ships that were printed but none of the actual terrain.

Just got mine, and started printing my first part, a simple rectangular tray (using the PLA they shipped with the system). I am NOT impressed. My two year old X Plus was a lot slower, but IMO is a much better printer. After laying down the bottom layer of material, the right rear corner peeled up before it even started laying down the outer walls of the tray. I'm guessing the nozzle must have then hit the material, because the X/Y gantry started beating itself to death, making max speed diagonal moves. I had to shut it all down. If this thing can exhibit this type of catastrophic failure from just making a simple rectangular tray with their PLA, then I have zero trust this thing. I am seriously considering demanding a refund from QIDI.

@@gaminggeek241I've been troubleshooting with QIDI almost non-stop. The X-Plus 3 is a huge FAIL for me. So far, I have produced ONE good part from this machine, the rest are garbage - all from the same roll of PLA that my X-Plus used to produce consistently good parts. My older X-Plus would make very good parts from ABS with ease (as well as PLA). In addition to poor quality results, at the end of every part, the machine runs the extruder nozzle into the part, knocking it off the build plate. Even their g-code file for flow rate calibration is a fail. When it has finished making the test parts, their code rams the nozzle tip into the last part and drags the tip through the material. QIDI doesn't have an answer other than repeating the line that I should install the latest firmware - which was done at the start of all this. I gave my X-Plus away so I am now stuck with this POS. Not a happy customer.
