what camera and mount did you use. We bought the x max 3 and have had some very concerning issues. So far bl touch dropped the pin and hit the print bending it and failing, they replaced it. then the hardened nozzle/hot end failed. Moved the nozzle to the original hot end and today during a 6 hour CF print it clogged up and was fully jammed. had to replace it with the replacement nozzle. I need a camera to watch the prints as I worry now. So far i have just stuck a camera on the rim of the container pointing into the chamber and it "works" but not ideal at all for full coverage feed.

As a consumer, one of the trickiest things to do when comparing different products is correct for the enthusiasims and styles of different reviewers. It's extremely natural for a person to find one reviewer more appealing than another simply because of the way the reviewers structure their videos and present their information, with the result that often a consumer ends up picking one product over another not because the product is a better match for their needs but because the presenter is more appealing to their tastes.
Which means I, personally, appreciate it when reviewers are able to compare several similar products, because while I still have to account for the differences between your preferences and mine, it's the same "correction factor" on every product. So I hope this video does well enough that you end up doing more in this vein in the future!

I have the QIDI PLUS3 and the heated chamber is very useful. pc PA CF or GF filament prints without warping, whereas other enclosed printers can have problems with warping when printing some large objects. You can recover the Klipper via SSH but it may not be easy so they send you a new emmc.

This was another great video, thank you. I, for one, would love the large format video you teased. I am still enjoying my Creality CR-10 that I have owned since 2017. It has been heavily modified and prints reliably and with good quality. I bought a Prusa MK3s kit and enjoyed building it but the print quality leap I thought it would provide was not much at all. I guess I’ve got my CR-10 dialed in to well! I since sold the Prusa and need to see what you recommend for my 310mm x 310 mm build surface.

Ive had my ankermake M5 since kickstarter days so of course i had to get the M5C, and i gotta say the stuff ankermake has learned from the M5 to the M5C is insane. The M5C is seriously in consideration for replacing my small print farm currently, it just works so well i think it goes beyond even just beginner stuff. For the price that it is its wild i havent seen it take off even more. Bambu P1S is REALLY nice but its a significant bit more expensive then the M5C and IMO not worth unless you need it specifically for AMS or the enclosure

I’ve built a Siboor V0.2 CNC kit and a Voron V0.1 (V0.2 S1 in progress) and I agree with your reviews of them. There are better toolhead options besides the stealthburner, I think that would improve them a lot. Considering I print ABS/ASA mainly it doesn’t need much part cooling. The LDO kit also doesn’t come with the lcd controller which is another $30. The LDO kit comes with a hiwin X rail which is better quality.
I agree with you though that the voron v0.2 build isn’t for the feint of heart. But once it’s tuned it’s like beast of a printer.

2 Ratrig VCORE 3 500X500X500 fully enclosed, an Ender 5Plus heavy modified and klipperized and since 2 weeks ago a Qidi X-MAX 3. The purpous of the X-MAX 3 will be to print GF and CF material only becaus I'm lazy and don't want to change nozzels and filaments on my Ratrigs all the time.

Huge fan of the comparison videos. Only drawback is that you have to have a good system in place for getting rid of the old (actually new) printers that the manufacturers send over. LTT has a whole department around liquidating what they don't store. A lot of other 3d printing youtubers seem to accumulate a lot in no time. Great content as always!

Thanks for another good video. :)

given they have hardened steel nozzle hotends and hardened steel extruder gears available from bambu, does the p1s still have issues with abrasive filaments if you upgrade those. i know that is not something for the novice necessarily but i've built my own voron without issue before this seems a reasonable and cheap upgrade if it lets me get better experience with abrasives

One comment to the Voron 0.2. There is the FANTASTIC Dragonburner Toolhead. It uses 4010 Blowers instead of 3010 Blowers and has MASSIVE Amounts of Cooling compared to the stock one. All you need are two 4010 Fans. For the extruder I would use the Mini Sherpa, as It works with the stock internals and is lighter.

awesome review, ive had my ankermake M5C since it released, and while i agree its extremely user friendly more so than any ender prusa or bambu printer ive been hands on with, i believe you can actually grow with this printer! you may not be able to swap firmware, but with its all metal hotend you can move to advanced materials, even engineering grade which no beginner should touch IMO. But when they learn what the slicer settings do and all the ins and outs of 3d printing the absolutely can grow with the printer. The most recent updates also added in precision modes which so far with what ive printer works fairly well. It allows you to do 0.05mm layer heights and actually seems to work pretty well for miniatures as well as a FDM printer can anyways. Plus, ankermake is very intune with their community and seem to be interested in making upgrades and accessories for the printer, so who knows whats to come later! theyve already discussed making a screen for the M5C and have mentioned possibly doing a camera. also to your point about locked down slicers, the ankermake printer does not require you to use the ankermake slicer, it only requires that if you want to send wirelessly but since you can load gcode into the slicer you dont even have to slice there you can slice in any slicer you want then load the gcode to send it wirelessly.

@@thenextlayer yea, its a poor argument to say you can just buy an enclosure to put over it since the other ones come with a built in one, but its the one ill make haha, For the price it is and how cheap you can get enclosures i think its perfectly fine to grow with. Despite that, they seem like a better alternative to Bambu Lab for people worried about Bambu's explicitly bad ToS and data security.

Nice roundup. The only thing I'd add is that any printer that lets you control it over USB (like the Kobra 2) can have networking added for about $20 with an SBC and OctoPrint. I use a bunch of Orange Pi Zero boards currently since the Raspberry Pis are still harder to come by currently. The new Orange Pi Zero 3 is really nice for as little as $15. Now there's some standouts and firsts here and there which should be given more airtime - some of Sovol's recent products & Bambu Labs spring to mind here but these are few and far between. Yet another bedslinger from Prusa is yawn time, but the XL toolhead is very interesting from an engineering standpoint.
They definitely all need to be rated on the "can my mum print with them?" scale.

Thanks for the vid. Good info but you should have also given prices for them. I'm in the market for a new machine currently and am thinking the Bambu Carbon X1 with AMS. It's a bit expensive and not perfect but certainly seems more capable than most others. I've been using an Ender 5 for the past 3 years and I learned a lot about the process with that printer (still works well today). But I'm looking for an enclosed printer that can use more specialized engineering grade filaments and definitely want to up the speed. What have your experiences been with the X1 w/AMS? You seem to like the P1S but that display is miserable and I'd rather have a full temp build plate, the higher end camera and the hardened steel hot end & gearing. Do you have any reservations about the X1? Thanks for any info you can share.

I've been waiting on the SV07 Plus. I'm still waiting on the Elegoo Neptune 4 Pro Plus. The extra speed of the core XY machines does me no good because most of my parts are TPU that can't be printed quickly anyway. I wanted Klipper for improved print quality and the new high speed printers have much better cooling which will help with overhangs.

I was interested in comparing the new(er) higher speed printers which I certainly think would include the K1's. I look forward to your K1 Max review. In your K1 review it's not clear if you had the "fixed" extruder or not. Great to see a mini review of the SV07 Plus even though it's not officially launched yet. 🤫 I am a bit disappointed that it is only a bigger SV07 with not many improvements like what Creality did with the K1 Max. They fixed problems on the K1 on it. Actually in terms of upgrades, I was hoping the look of the SV07 Plus would be like a bigger Ender 3 V3 SE - linear rails (like the SV06 Plus) on the bed especially with a bigger build plate. As for me, I've mentioned I'm still deciding between a P1S Combo or K1 Max for my 1st and only printer. I want a bigger volume for costumes, but I also want an AMS for printing toys and fun stuff for family and friends. I can't spend more than $1000 for a printer.

    • @thenextlayer
      @thenextlayer  Před 9 měsíci +1

If you want an AMS, you’ll need a Bambu printer - or to build a Voron and ERCF which is NOT for beginners. Sounds like P1S is the option for you. You’ll do fine without a huge printer probably. People overestimate their needs. Also Bambu doesn’t have a big printer coming out any time soon - at least not for many months. If you end up buying Bambu, jle.vi/bambu would help me out, and jle.vi/creality if you buy creality

@@thenextlayer Thanks for the reply! For sure I'm keeping away from the Vorons. 😅As I mentioned, one reason I want a bigger volume is to print helmets but I can always cut them up. I really appreciate when I get replies from makers. Makes me think about my options. One CZcamsr suggested to get the K1 Max so at least I have the volume, as there may be an AMS-like machine in the future that will be compatible to the K1 printers. Still have months away to buy my 1st printer as it will be my 50th bday gift to myself. 🥳👨‍🦳 Gives me time to save up too!
