As a German I feel compelled to correct the fact about German Santa: he is called Weihnachtsmann, just a regular Santa. The Christkind (-kind pronounced like in Kindergarden, both meaning child, not like kind as in nice) developed from the image of baby Jesus. It came from the Protestant rejection of the veneration of saints, including Saint Nicholas. So it’s the exact opposite of him not in his tradition! The more you know!
Thank you for that. Really interesting. We are definitely going to have to update this episode next Christmas. There are so many interesting aspects to Germany's celebration of Christmas perhaps we should do a full episode including a visit to Rothenberg that celebrates Christmas year round.
Interesting, thanks for the information.
Santa the only person who can get away with home invasion 🤣
Good one! 😂🎄
The only person who can get away with home invasion and people actively encourage him to do it + help him stay well fed and hydrated 🤣
Along with also helping maintain his reindeer
It's very nice to know these kind of knowledge or history of Santa, and also what a wholesome making of the video. Thank you and Happy Holiday to y'all.
I liked the grim Santa - St. Nicolas story, that he was a high positioned Priest of a Church, and he did go around giving litle Girls and Boys gifts in form of money and some trinkets, because the poor children were notoriously pushed out for prostitution,
so Nick, felt that giving them money would lessen their burden and help their situation, the Church didn’t like him going around the prostitution venues and giving away money but didn’t stop him,
and the Rich Parents Hated when Nick would give a present to their child, grabing their child away proclaiming “My child is Not a Harlet!”
to the chagrin of Nick, bc he knew many of the Rich men - were the customers of the child prostitutes,
I don’t know how much of that story is kept or changed, I heard it twice, in America and in UK
Good lord that’s depressing, wouldn’t surprise me if that was the real story though:(……
The Polish telling of Saint Nicholas reportedly saved three impoverished girls from being sold into marriage by giving three bags of money into the home of the girls. I dont know if other cultures share this story.
wait is that Tom Hardy
Truly the hottest Santa Claus I've ever met - woof!
Has Santa become that advanced he can move his beard to allow him to eat and drink more easily? Such a wise man.
Also Rudolph shedding his antlers right before Christmas??? 😱
Saint Nicholas of Myra also punched the heretic Arius for saying that Jesus was created and not part of the Godhead.
Fun fact! In the former Soviet Union, Santa drops off gifts on New Year's Eve. There is no reindeer. Also, there is no Mrs. He has a 'niece'
Gracias. Feliz navidad para ustedes tambien
Absolutely love this channel! 🎄
When did Tom Hardy start presenting for GBS? 🤔🤩
Did anyone see A Boy Called Christmas? The kid Henry Lawfull is amazing. He’s like a British Oakes Fegley
Why am I getting covid lockdown give-no-shit vibes in this. I love it.
You merely adopted the holiday spirit. I was born in it, molded by it.
Father Christmas is not Saint Nicholas. It is its own personification of Christmas that came about completely seperately from Santa Claus and St Nicholas. Nowadays Father Christmas is another name for Santa Claus, after the American tradition began to become more popular and replace the British one.
This is true! en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Father_Christmas
The German example was also falsely quoted as being derived from Saint Nicholas - not as well researched this one 🤔
I love Santa and it’s my birthday!
Merry Christmas!!!
That the story about the red version of him being from Coca-Cola isn’t true?
I didn't know Santa wore Blundstone boots. 😂

Your most chaotic video yet, great job😂
Fun fact
A St. Nicolas legend has him losing his bishop position in 325 at the council of Nicaea after he punched Arius a bishop from Egypt who argued for Arianism
In the Orthodox tradition, we celebrate St. Basil the Great, on the 1st of January.
His boots 👢 are black 😂

Not real 😮
Ahh...Santa Claus. This icon teaches so much:
1. He glorifies gluttony
2. Invades people's private spaces
3. Teaches that good behavior is not intrinsically valuable, and must be accompanied by a reward.
In other words, he is the perfect symbol of our decadent age.
A fake character for a fake religion 🎉
Spreading lies
This guy's acting was annoying
Well this is a video about the Santa from the English speaking world... Not for the rest of us (like for example here in Norway)...
