The Grey Havens, also known as Mithlond, is an Elvish port city on the Gulf of Lune in the realm of Lindon. It was founded at the beginning of the Second Age by the surviving Elves of the realm of Beleriand, who chose to remain on Middle-earth after the wars against Morgoth.

My wife passed away 6 years ago after giving birth to our daughter. Every night, I read to her while she stares deeply into my eyes and listens intensely. I know that it probably isn't common to relate this song to a father-daughter relationship, but this song makes me miss my wife so much more. It also makes me love and cherish my daughter so, so much. Seeing Frodo sail off to the Undying Lands, I think, has to be the saddest scene in the movies. He sacrificed his soul to save his homeland. And in the end, he could no longer find inner peace in his homeland. As a veteran, this hits me hard. I think Tolkien knew how to invoke his experience as WW1 veteran into writing this wonderful fantasy. In a sense, we’re seeing his experience through a different lens.

My oldest daughter just turned 16 today and I played LOTR music all day. Today, before leaving to go to her dad's, she played guitar, my other daughter played violin, and I played flute to this soundtrack. Now I'm in heavy tears at the music and now the memory made.
To the sea, to the sea! The white gulls are crying, The wind is blowing, and the white foam is flying. West, west away, the round sun is falling, Grey ship, grey ship, do you hear them calling, The voices of my people that have gone before me? I will leave, I will leave the woods that bore me; For our days are ending and our years failing. I will pass the wide waters lonely sailing. Long are the waves on the Last Shore falling, Sweet are the voices in the Lost Isle calling, In Eressea, in Elvenhome that no man can discover, Where the leaves fall not: land of my people forever!
"that no man can discover.." This gave me the chiils. For indeed, no mortal can sail the straight path without the permission of the Valar. An Elven kingdom of beauty and light.
“Frodo: I can't recall the taste of food, nor the sound of water, nor the touch of grass. I'm naked in the dark. There's nothing--no veil between me and the wheel of fire. I can see him with my waking eyes. Sam: Then let us be rid of it, once and for all. I can't carry the ring for you, but I can carry you! COMEON MR.Frodo!” ― J.R.R. Tolkien
Whenever I read the book, I have tears in my eyes at this point where we see this scene. It's not only the end of the story but it's the end of an Age. The end of an epic piece of literature that has spanned about 10,000 years. “And the ship went out into the High Sea and passed on into the West, until at last on a night of rain Frodo smelled a sweet fragrance on the air and heard the sound of singing that came over the water. And then it seemed to him that as in his dream in the house of Bombadil, the grey rain-curtain turned all to silver glass and was rolled back, and he beheld white shores and beyond them a far green country under a swift sunrise.” There is also the sadness that Merry & Pippin will never see Frodo again. Sam longs to go with his friend but knows in his heart it's not time yet. As Frodo told him, he can't be split in two. There was so much for Sam to do yet in and for the Shire. “But to Sam the evening deepened to darkness as he stood at the Haven; and as he looked at the grey sea he saw only a shadow on the waters that was soon lost in the West. There still he stood far into the night, hearing only the sigh and murmur of the waves on the shores of Middle-earth, and the sound of them sank deep into his heart.” Sam would become Mayor for seven consecutive seven year terms. He, and all mayors afterwards would be counselors to the King in the Northern Realm as would the Thaine of the Shire and the Master of Buckland and their successive heirs. After Rosie dies and Sam leaves Middle-Earth, I imagine their friendship was renewed in Valinor. Did Frodo find peace in his heart from his burdens in Middle-Earth? I imagine they sat together recounting their lives since they parted while smoking a pipe. Frodo would sit and listen to every detail of the Shire, of Sam's trip to Minas Tirith with Rosie, of the gardens, children and all things Hobbits. I believe this would bring the most healing to Frodo in his final years.
Sam's tales of his journey in middle earth with Rosie and his family, being the thing that truly heals Frodo's darkened wounds down to his soul, is absolutely perfect. To hear form his one greatest friend, that the world he left, is in such good hearts, that a man and his wife and children could walk from the Shire to Minas Tirith without a single worry. That would heal any wound in my heart and soul.
Then, after Aragorn chose to depart this life, Legolas built his own white ship and sailed the long Anduin river to the Havens, and finally across the Sea to the Sacred West. Gimli also made the journey alongside his friend, making him the first and only Dwarf to step foot in Valinor.
It is crazy how beautifully written stories and music can make your heart yearn for people and places that never existed. The emotion that a place and a scene like this conjures is deep and spiritual.
It’s like Tolkien’s great friend C.S. Lewis said, “If we find ourselves with a desire that nothing in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that we were made for another world.” God’s Kingdom.
I yearn more for the time when fellowship movie came out. When I was a teenager, 10th grade, and my life was simple, days felt long, and I was still able to speak with people who meant the most to me. Now 80% of my family have all passed away, I spent Christmas alone such is life.
My ex wife and I were in a small theater in Louisville going to see a Star Trek film. Then a preview started and when the guy with the pointy hat and the 4 hobbits Legolas and Gimli walked over that hill everyone in the movie theater knew exactly what it was. And you would have thought Jimi Hendrix and Janice Joplin and the Doors came out in stage at the same time because the theater erupted with cheers and applause and people were losing there minds including myself.
There are many moments during my life when I "escape" mentally from all of the things that are happening and I "engage" into the world of the Elves, the Dwarves, and the Hobbits through this music! This fantasy would be awesome to really experience! Maybe even a trip to Middle-Earth would please the soul!

Is there anyone else that just goes into complete serenity... and gets super emotional and nostalgic when they listen to this? Tolkien created a masterpiece for this world for people like you, and me... That live for the feelings that these tracks and the movies give us. The deep love, and gratitude for the beauty and magic that the L.O.T.R. and the hobbit possess. It is TRULY a gift to this world... Thank you so much Tolkien.

Every time I watch LOTR, read the books or listen to this beautiful music, I live this story more and more strongly... after twenty years... an incredible work...
I just started this new year with Frodo going away, and also Sam's ending where he said "Well, I'm back", and it's such a wonderful feeling. I hope this year will be a good year for me and for all of you.
I'm amazed and very happy that you're able to make a solid three hour mix with such a specific atmosphere to it. I always find myself trying to skip the 'wrong' parts of soundtracks to get to the parts that suit my mood, so a video like this is the perfect solution. Thank you again.
Trying to put together a puzzle while listening to this, wow! Half way thru my tears started coming out. LOTR has been with me since i was 5. I'm 32 years old now. Every other day i listen to these beautiful works. I read silmarillion while enjoying the music. Makes me tear up. 🖤 The road goes ever on
I read the books a few years before the movies were made, lets just say i wasn't disappointed. The music is incredible, instantly taking you to Middle Earth. Whenever i need to "escape" I come here. Masterpiece!!
I don't remember last time crying with sadness and joy at the same time, but here I am, full of emotions, tears in my eyes and smile on my lips. Beautiful work

My oldest daughter just turned 16 today and I played LOTR music all day. Today, before leaving to go to her dad's, she played guitar, my other daughter played violin, and I played flute to this soundtrack. Now I'm in heavy tears at the music and now the memory made.

How beautiful
To the sea, to the sea! The white gulls are crying,
The wind is blowing, and the white foam is flying.
West, west away, the round sun is falling,
Grey ship, grey ship, do you hear them calling,
The voices of my people that have gone before me?
I will leave, I will leave the woods that bore me;
For our days are ending and our years failing.
I will pass the wide waters lonely sailing.
Long are the waves on the Last Shore falling,
Sweet are the voices in the Lost Isle calling,
In Eressea, in Elvenhome that no man can discover,
Where the leaves fall not: land of my people forever!
❤❤
Thank you
Nice poem!
"that no man can discover.." This gave me the chiils. For indeed, no mortal can sail the straight path without the permission of the Valar. An Elven kingdom of beauty and light.
may the valar take us all home, from this pitiful and sad world
i wish i could live there :(
I live there, in my inner world 🥰this is the only thing we can do.. and in real life be always with right and light side
COMEON MR.Frodo!”
― J.R.R. Tolkien
The Valar are watching!
@@LordTelperion good name as well!
Samsagaz Gamyi, el PUTO AMO.
And then it seemed to him that as in his dream in the house of Bombadil, the grey rain-curtain turned all to silver glass and was rolled back, and he beheld white shores and beyond them a far green country under a swift sunrise.”
There is also the sadness that Merry & Pippin will never see Frodo again.
There still he stood far into the night, hearing only the sigh and murmur of the waves on the shores of Middle-earth, and the sound of them sank deep into his heart.”
Sam would become Mayor for seven consecutive seven year terms.
I tought I was a fan of LOTR but you are on another level. Nice
The most beautiful and peaceful port you'll likely ever see.
It is crazy how beautifully written stories and music can make your heart yearn for people and places that never existed. The emotion that a place and a scene like this conjures is deep and spiritual.
It’s like Tolkien’s great friend C.S. Lewis said,
“If we find ourselves with a desire that nothing in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that we were made for another world.” God’s Kingdom.
@@Concetta20 100%!
I couldn't agree more.
In that same frame of mind, there were elves who were born in Middle Earth, yet their hearts yearned for Valar, a home which they had not yet seen.
Ah yes lets cry some more tonight 🎶♥️
I was posting a memorial to my mother today on the anniversary of her passing. This music is heavenly and comforting.
I'm sorry bud...
Thank you Howard Shore
One of the unsung heroes of the trilogy...
I AM BRAZILIAN IN MY COUNTRY THIS TRILOGY DID BIG SUCESS, LOVELY MUSIC FABULOUS MOVIE CONGRATULATIONS
There are many moments during my life when I "escape" mentally from all of the things that are happening and I "engage" into the world of the Elves, the Dwarves, and the Hobbits through this music! This fantasy would be awesome to really experience! Maybe even a trip to Middle-Earth would please the soul!

Reading all the comments while listening to this wonderful healing music makes me think of how heaven will be...Endless peace and joy unspeakable!
I just watched Return of the King in the IMAX yesterday. And now, I listen to this. So many emotions ;____;
I recommend you to read Tolkien's Trilogy also.

Ah jesus... Ah sweet jesus.. What a masterpiece
This music and the movies make me yearn deeply for an existence that doesn't exist in this life! Such serenity and a calming peace envelops the soul!
Again I feel find myself tearing up reading the comments and listening to beautiful music.
I feel this a proper song to lay someone down to rest.
This hit me hard. 😞
A sad heart, i am okay. Been through a lot.
When i leave this world; i think it was god trying to show me lessons i needed to know.
Stubborn you are.
Every time I watch LOTR, read the books or listen to this beautiful music, I live this story more and more strongly... after twenty years... an incredible work...
I cry when I hear this.
I didn't believe movies like LOTR and Hobbit was possible!
Masterpieces ❤
i was going to listen to this while i go to sleep but it makes me too sad so i’m just gonna go to the Rivendell one instead
have a great day :)
Trying to work and listen to this is too hard. Too many emotions being stirred to be productive haha.
This entire song fits the mood

Try watching this on large flat screen with lights out. Stupendous!
Beautiful work
10:43 it's my favorite melody in this trilogy...it's just....wow
This quenches the dryness of the soul and evokes a comfortable feeling and a peace of mind and full of happiness and pleasure
Sure does!

I'm never tired to watch this trilogy over and over, it's a real Masterpiece !
'concerning hobbits' melody will always have a special place in my heart
You got me! I decided to watch this, thinking it could make it easier to control myself to see this seen and hear music without watching the series. Then the song hits hard at the start and I had to fight to have any control. Howard Shore is a genius.
I've read all LOTR five times. Each one is a different experience. This music totally matches the depth and mystique. So does the movie. Thank you for this !!!!
These LOTRs instrumental music videos have gotten me through 6 years of college homework and reading. Thank you so much for making this available.
Very emotional for me. I think there won't be any trilogy as epic as LOTR for a long long time.

It's so sad that all the elves are leaving Middle Earth to dwell forever in Valinor until the end of Arda. They should have visited now and then to see how the world of men are doing. Such sadness to think of all the great Elven cities becoming dust and legend though the ages of the world, until they are nothing but a distant shadow of what was once a place of light and magic.
Heaven is going to be such a wonderful place🙏 This brings me so much peace and I wonder why I was so scared!

Thank you for this magnificent simple bedtime-story piece of closure♥
What an experience that must’ve been! I’m very thankful to you and all the people who worked on these movies. I can say with certainty that I wouldn’t be the person I am today without them.
