    Junior's actor Dominic Chianese during the cast reunion a few years back brought up the scene with James/Tony at the end of "Where's Johnny" as one of his favorites because it made him cry then and even more now for obvious reasons.
    On a lighter note he brings up the golf course scene with him and Tony from season one where he makes fun of him for going down on his lady and he found that so hysterical and it was hard not to laugh.

    The good thing about THE SOPRANOS is - they want to focus on the story arc and the arc of the characters- You don't really need a whole episode taken up by seeing Bobby and Janice getting married. It would have needed to be a one off story line episode like "Pine Barrens" but they did not want to do that this late in the game. I like the fact they were married in between seasons

    It's a shame but Robert Loggia was supposed to be around for the whole season; sadly, he struggled to remember his lines exactly as they were in the script and David Chase was really strict on actors not changing a single word of dialogue, hence his swift exit.

      He made a hella impression though! Damn, such a fun character. Not to meet, in real life (ugh!) But on TV...! :D And another foil like Richie Aprile or Ralph Cifaretto for Tony, hanging around an entire season, would be a little too much history repeating itself IMO. A guy like Feech, they're like salt in a stew. You want it savory, but too much and it spoils the whole pot.

    To clear up some confusion about relationships:
    - Tony Blundetto's mother is Livia's sister Quintinia, making him Tony S.'s 1st cousin. You have previously heard Tony talk about "Aunt Quintinia" or "Aunt Quin". His father, Al Blundetto (Uncle Al) is brother of Christopher's mother Joanne, making him also Christopher's 1st cousin.
    - Christopher's paternal grandmother was sister to Hugh D'Angelis (Carmela's father), making Christopher's father, Dickie Moltisanti, Carmela's 1st cousin.
    - Dickie Moltisanti was best friend's with Tony's father, Johnny Soprano, and was a lieutenant under Johnny when Johnny was a Captain, and treated Tony like a nephew when Tony was a teenager more than Junior Soprano did. This is why Tony sometimes refers to Christopher as his "nephew".
    - Johnny Soprano died of lung cancer as a lifetime cigarette smoker.

    "...really the main focus is generational trauma" - Bang on. The Sopranos is, at its heart, an exploration of generational trauma. I've watched most of your Sopranos videos and honestly, at first I was like - Damn, The Sopranos is a strange choice for Mother and son to watch together. But it's actually an interesting dynamic. It's interesting watching a parent and child who are so comfortable with each other and address each other with simple respect and affection watching this show about parents destroying their children.

    With each season, Tony evolves a little more into his role as Boss of the Family Season 5 is when he really proves he has what it takes to be the Boss. (Of course some people would say NJ is nothing more than a glorified crew)

    • @gregsgoogle2947
      @gregsgoogle2947 Před měsícem +1

      Actually I see the opposite. Tony was never a good boss & he’s getting worse as time goes. Makes more rash decisions that makes problems worse. He sees his family members (both personal & mob) more as pawns to move around & less like humans. What little humanity Tony had is slowly dying too.
      Point being... he keeps getting more & more self centered & losing the ability to think what’s best for the group instead of just thinking what’s best for him.

      @@gregsgoogle2947Tony came into power by default (Jackie's death and Junior incompetence). In each season following he was challenged internally by members of NJ family. At end of S5 he has whole NJ completely behind him.

      @@YakacrakamambA Any examples of Tony making a good mob boss decision ??

    • @YakacrakamambA
      @YakacrakamambA Před měsícem

      Oh Tony is a Narcissist no doubt about that. I'm not even debating if Tony is a good or bad boss. Let me try to explain my point without giving anything away:
      At the end of S5 Tony makes a bigtime boss decision (you might even say its "General - like") Its at this point where Tony definitively proves he is "The Boss" After this, no more Junior, Richie, Ralphie, Feeches, backstabbing by Paulie (or even teasing by the one we cannot name). All of that stops, and everyone falls into line. Tony proves he has what it takes - for good or bad
      Let me put it like this, if Tony were to go down who could even fill in temporarily?
      *Anyway, there is a lot of good TV ahead of us to discuss. I am interested to hear your opinion on where NJ ends up after 6-21. I have my thoughts but I can say no more until then.

    Think you may have misplaced sympathy for Carmela. She chose to bring 2 kids into a mob family for money. Meadow is carving a legit life for herself & her motivation to do so is to NOT be like her mom. AJ doesn’t have any respect for his mom either. Why would he?? Isn’t it the primary job of being a mother to protect & provide safety for their children?? How does marrying into a crime family provide her kid’s safety?? Carmela is a horrible mother & maybe the ending shot is warning to her she might be left all alone in the end. Just like Tony’s mob mother was.

    • @Tusc9969
      @Tusc9969 Před měsícem +2

      I can't disagree here. She's definitely not a victim.
      Carmela's Jewish Psychiatrist was the most moral character on the show and she showed her colors when she decided to ignore his free advice.

    • @gregsgoogle2947
      @gregsgoogle2947 Před měsícem

      @@Tusc9969 Carmela’s character challenges the morality of materialism. So many easily forget Carmela is as bad a mother as any poor crack head mother who constantly put their children’s safety at risk. But since Carmela’s addiction is material things to feed her fake social status... she gets more sympathy than a crack mother would.

    • @LaCheeserie
      @LaCheeserie Před měsícem

      Sympathy isn’t earned, it’s a feeling. Deserve has nothing to do with it. Defending AJ takes all your credibility away. Kid is an ass plain and simple. What are they in danger of? Those kids are well taken care of, spoiled. And safer than most.
