Great match by Mon! Thank you for posting. I really liked Brenda and if memory serves she got a win the following year on a cold, damp day at Eastbourne on the grass. Am hoping you'll have a good copy of the final coming up ;)
Schultz had so much stronger a backhand than forehand off the ground which is very unusual, especialy for a women player. Usually the forehand is always stronger. Her forehand she mostly only sliced.
It shows what a terrible tennis commentator Tracy Austin is that she actually said Brenda's forehand is her stronger side off the ground, and her backhand is super weak, LOL! Anyone who watches this match can see her backhand is WAY stronger than her forehand.
Watching this match, while Brenda has an amazing serve and by far the most powerful in womens tennis at the time, it doesnt seem even close as hard to return as a Williams serve. I think it is mostly her placement, disguise, and variety doesnt even compare to especialy Serena. I would even say Graf still arguably had the best female serve at the time as her placement and variety was so much better than Brenda's serve.
Just finished watching this tonight...thanks so much! I miss Monica she's my favorite player of all time :)

What a strange grip on Brenda's forehand!
Schultz’s forehand was pure shit and her movement was tragic. Other than being freakishly tall and having that serve she was barely top 100 level.
