This guy was SO down to earth, and easy to talk to, he even remembered my name, the second time I seen him. This is the closest I have ever been to something like this and though I didn't know the family, I feel angry and lied to. I can only imagine how THEY feel, living in the same building with this monster all this time. They need to go over his life with a fine tooth comb, I find it hard to believe this is an isolated incident.🤬

They should have put child protective services charges on them as well if they were making her roam dangerous streets at night alone.

      I grew up in those times. I had felt some of my friends had too much responsibility in those days but families were bigger and it was very common to do a lot of chores and believe me the parents were not sitting around doing nothing. Dinner was often made from scratch and for a large family, few convenience foods and take out People often had to care for their elderly parents or neighbors too. I had little brothers and my grandmother came about once a month to help my mother just get caught up. She'd clean and mend clothing and give my mother a break so she could go shopping. At age nine I helped with the care of my infant brother such as diapering etc. and even babysat while he was sleeping while my mother made a quick dash to the supermarket. Rare was a parent that ever washed dinner dishes or mowed the lawns in my neighborhood. The kids did all of that but we still had plenty of time for play and to be kids. Although Miraliz probably had too many responsibilities as the eldest, kids today are given far too few responsibility and as a consequence they are too self focused and unprepared for adult life. Kids that do chores feel part of the family unit and feel a sense of accomplishment when given some responsibility.

    • @rmsg7504

    • @lorimav
      @lorimav Před rokem +25

      @@rmsg7504 Now in days it is really rare to see a child that has been given too much responsibility but in the 60's and 70's I witnessed that. Children given no responsibility is what I see currently which leads to the inability to take on responsibility when they become adults and a very self centered and entitled attitude. A happy medium should be struck instead. I I once asked advice of a woman who was a specialist in childhood trauma and ran a system of group homes and summer camps for fostercare children when besides having my biological children I was about to adopt 3 older children ages 7,9, and 11. Her biggest piece of advice was a little unexpected. I was expecting her to say to have a thick skin and don't take attacks personally, etc.. but she kept on emphasizing the importance of giving age appropriate responsibilities, animal care, food preparation, etc. for building a feeling of belonging and for building self esteem. Where as sending a child to a sweat shop to sew clothes or being put in charge of younger siblings 24/7 might cause them to flee, having them care for pets, help clean common areas, and participate in meal preparation are important for character development and bonding. People have gone from one extreme to another, when the middle is the most beneficial.
      I am glad my parents let me pick my chores. I generally hated cleaning the house and doing dishes. I chose mowing the lawn, occasionally keeping an eye on the younger children, and the shortest cleaning chore, once a week cleaning the bathroom that only took about 30 minutes. I got out of all of those dishes just because my mother hated cleaning the bathroom so much. My father also appreciated me answering his business phone when he stepped out of his office which also rang into our house. He was very proud of the way I handled those calls and wrote up the messages and I was too. In the end it wasn't much work but it did teach some responsibility and appreciation for what a household needed to function. Also, when I became an adult my parents very much helped me financially and they helped set my brothers up in business. My father is gone but my brothers and I have the privilege of helping my mother out and paying back some of the tremendous help and care our parents gave to us.

It just made it seem to easy for her to fall victim to a predator. Her mother and stepfather obviously knew it wasn't safe but still made her do all that on her own. Thank you for sharing this case with us. I'm so sorry for their loss. I lost my daughter around the same time as she was killed. My daughter was 10 and she died on 7/25/1999. I locked the casket on my daughter but forgot to put a flashlight in there for her. It broke my heart even more because my daughter was afraid of the dark. I couldn't function after her death. I was a mess. I don't know how I could have functioned had I not gone to her funeral. I'm glad her best friend was able to share some of the memories she shared with you.

As for the mom it wouldn't surprise me if you said she was abused by her husband and he demanded she not go. I am a teacher that works in a public school in Brazil, and have to deal a lot with abusive parents and things like that. When the parents are distant from the the child and show almost no interest on how they are going and how they are mentally, we already treat as a huge red flag. So, yeah, a mother that don't go to the funeral plus what the father said is pretty strange and suspicious, imo.
    I feel like she didn't really cared for Minerliz, or simply was indiferent for everything that happened. It's impossible to be sure, but, to me, it's a very big red flag.

      Sounds like she only used her daughter and allowed her in her house for selfish reasons. Probably welfare benefits, housework, babysitting and to run outside chores and errands. The other sad thing is her mother mentally went on with her life with a new man and another kid so Minnie was no longer relevant to her emotionally, if she ever was at all. I'm sure her dad wanted the best for her but ended up sending her straight into the lions den. I'm sure he's living with a different kind of pain after it was his decision to send her to NY. Her mother is one disgusting and soulless chick who never deserved her.

    It’s crazy because my mom went to school with Joseph and said that he was one of the sweetest kids. I wonder what makes people snap like that.. it’s so disturbing. Thank you for covering these stories! I am so impressed by the way you cover things, I truly wish all media would follow suit for victims/survivors. Thank you for not humanizing these monsters! RIP Minnie!! 🙏🥀

IT SEEMS THAT HE WAS PLOTTING AND PLANNING THIS FOR A *VERY LONG TIME*!! 😒IN OTHER WORDS...*PREMEDITATION*-- IF NOT HER IT WOULD HAVE BEEN SOMEONE ELSE!!😑 I'M SURE YOU HEARD OF *WOLVES* DRESSED IN *SHEEP'S CLOTHING*??🤨 HE WAS A *DEVIL 👹 IN DISGUISE* FROM "BIRTH*!!

      These "monsters" need to be humanized because they're humans. And if you look at them as more than monsters you can see that, more often than not, they were failed as children and perhaps, if they received better care as kids, they wouldn't have gone on to do the horrible things they did.

    • @ijustneedmyself
      @ijustneedmyself Před rokem +14

      Not sure it needs to be said, but just in case... My point is not that I think we need to treat these people with kid gloves or glorify them. Rather, we need to look at how they got to where they are and how we as a society could have possibly helped to prevent such horror.

    I remember seeing this on TV awhile ago😢. I think guilt on the mother’s part kept her away. She had her “running errands” at night when she should’ve been home. The fact that neighbors noticed the girl doing a lot of chores is probably when her killer “noticed” she would be an easy target😢.
