- In the Summer of 2016, in the city of Bellaire, Texas, a stone’s throw from Houston, Dawn and Antonio Armstrong were attacked by an unknown shooter, both shot while sleeping, in the dead of the night.
The couple’s son heard the gunfire from elsewhere in the house, and made an emergency call, sending responders rushing out to the house. These officers arrived to find that the home security system had not been breached. No one had entered or left the house - for hours.
The killer must have already been inside.

AJ Armstrong found guilty of murdering his parents at his third trial August 16, 2023. Sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 40 years. New DNA evidence helped sway this jury after the first two were hung.

Devastating how the older brother was dragged into this and his mental health put at the forefront. It’s honestly quite shameful that this was even a tactic.

That wasn't his family. That was the father's family, so they were going to do and say anything to save their blood. Even AJ said that they (he and his sister looked up to him), but when the little sister took the stand, it didn't sound like that was the case.
I saw a case yesterday where this young man discovered his mother body and he become the main subject until the found the killers DNA. Image the trauma of finding ur mother who u love all stabbed up and I become the main subject! The justice system sucks

His mother was absolutely on point when she described him as a "bold faced liar". It's pretty terrifying that he can brutally murder his own parents, not shed a single tear then completely fools his grandparents, girlfriend and friends into thinking he's an innocent victim in all this.

We don't know... we don't actually know how they were in the personal level. We can make our own opinions based on how others perceived them. But how many people have not turned out to be way different than what family knew them as in the criminal history, a whole lot of people.

In the end, it turns out that the same golden, favorite child and most loved among other siblings is one who murdered his parents.
No remorse to what he has done to his devoted parents, instead he continued to be beating around the bush.
I am so glad that his lies did nothing to safe him and he is going to spend the rest of his life in jail. I know it won't bring his parents back but let him pay for this brutal crime he committed.

That's weird seeing as though the prosecutors mentioned that the text convos between Antonio and Josh showed he wasn't the problem child. I'm going to get the court transcripts so I can get all the details. I wish the judge would have let cameras in but I understand.

I completely agree !! As someone who has had three murders, within one year, in my immediate family, I can tell you firsthand, after the murders in my own family, I was also, for lack of a more descriptive word, "crazy". But "crazy" with fear, with guilt, with every feeling known to Man. I also told the doctor I went to see "I can see my brother lying there, shot in the head". Because in my mind's eye, I imagined what my brother went though. It did NOT mean I literally was there. Yet, that is more or less what poor Josh meant & they tried to say Josh was the killer. I am STILL so angry how Josh was being blamed & then, treated, even by Dawn's own mother & family.

Him 7 min later: "I shot the gun in my pillows 2-3 weeks ago."
The way his family defended him shows how his entitlement and consequently his murderous actions is a product of them.

Because they look well off and put together does not mean everything was wonderful in their household. No excuses for the young man actions but we have no idea what he possibly could have been put through in that house. I was surprised neither Kevin nor the prosecution focused on that. It probably came up in court, but we just didn't get to see that part. That's a key piece of evidence.
@@acason4 That's not true AT ALL. Strangely enough, kids can love their parents so the fact that he could conceivably feel guilt over not doing more to protect them is entirely consistent. We shouldn't put much meaning into a few words out of context. Most of the case against him is like that.

The defense was really grasping at straws
Novice killer made numerous errors and thankfully the defense was not believed. Defense lawyer was aversive

She seems completely clear and as far as parenting woes, they were on the same page - texts as examples. If you remove the alleged prostitution ring, father's academic and sports achievements were nothing to scoff at. His son AJ, whom I still presume accountable for the parents' slaughter (with the ludicrous 'practice pillow' and running balaclava-masked man explanations as last nails in his 'guilt coffin') were NOT connected to his father's activities. That, at least, is pretty clear to most viewers.
And even worse is their own son killed them.

(They don't need the world to deal with the murders because they are going to pen these murders on someone in the family!) What ever the family's punishment given to him will have more of a lasting effect on AJ and he will never forget the punishment or the murders (if he did murder his parents.)!
This case taking 6 years is AJ’s karma for committing this horrendous crime against his parents. There was a fracture of hope when he kept getting retrials and I’m sure he thought he would get away with this.

I don't think that he fooled anyone; part of the job of the defense is to poke holes in the prosecution's case their argument is to show that there is reasonable doubt and that the evidence at best is circumstantial, and that he must be acquitted, some Juror's seem to enjoy the ride and just play along, regardless of what seems obvious, even a blind man can see that he is guilty; however there are laws and strict rules when it comes to finding one's innocent or guilty..
So AJ was trying to say,

They showed where someone tried to set fire to the home for what? AJ said it happened Tuesday before his parents murder. I recently saw a case VERY similar to this. An African-American teenage boy being raised with all manner of opportunity and luxury. His mother was a judge. His father drove trucks so he was hardly home. He was doing very badly in school, an elite private school his mother had pulled strings to get him into. He was also dealing marijuana. (This was the 1990s so imagine the scandal then if he had been caught, the son of a judge). The mother chastised him in very much the same manner as AJ's parents so he planned her murder. He beat her to death and left her to die. It was horrific. The evidence showed she had tried to escape and he dragged her back and finished the job. Then he went to school and pretended everything was fine before returning home to "discover" her body. She had previously told friends she was growing increasingly afraid of him and that he was capable of doing something bad. Just like this case the family aggressively rallied around him. However, they did it because they didn't want to stain the family name with such a horrific murder. At one point the DA offered him a super sweet deal in exchange for a guilty plea but his family convinced him not to take it and instead risk a trial. He was found guilty and given a lengthy sentence. I forgot the name of the judge or the bastards name but it's really, really similar to this. The family is defending him because of their reputations. Nothing else. The night before the murder his mother had given him and ultimatum: fix your grades, stop selling weed or I'm reporting you. She apparently no longer cared about her job and had recently lost an election. He son was deteriorating and she didn't know what else to do. At her funeral a few folks noticed how he wasn't grief stricken at all.
Raynard Cook is the name of that murderer. He committed the crime in 1996.

In the practice, he didn't have to talk on the phone or to anyone. Obviously he didn't think of the ringing noise would interfere with his hearing on the phone.

yes I very much appreciate the factual bent of this program vs overly the emotional ones. I find I can think much more objectively, when watching these documentaries. It must be difficult not to inject your emotional response when presenting facts about cases like this. However I think that is very important. Kevin is always respectful of the families tho.

I been watching these crime stories back to back lately and one thing I noticed is 9/10 times your killer is someone you know. Just scary to think someone you birthed could do this smh.
This is exactly what I said! I watch crime stories all the time & it’s frightening to think that someone you think loves you could do something like this. I don’t even have children and have always said I want them someday, but I couldn’t imagine giving birth to, nurturing, loving, and raising my own killer. This is heartbreaking & I’m from and live in Houston. I can’t believe this, but Stevie Wonder can see this boy is guilty and he will get exactly what he deserves!
Yes! I notice that too. Random strangers aren’t out here killing people (it’s very rare). Somebody you KNOW is who wants you dead and will make the effort. It’s very telling of human behavior. Guess there is something to the first murder being Cain killing his own brother. We’re out here being fearful of strangers but should be focused on these fractured relationships with the people with whom we are well acquainted!

Not sure. I'm a detailed oriented person and I can typically give you a detailed account of anything and anyone. I'm also an overthinker and overanalyzer so I go over events multiple times and some details come out later. I'm constantly told that I don't have to explain something, I give more information than needed, etc. I get on my own nerves with it sometimes but it doesn't always mean guilt. It really can be that is just how someone is.

Well sounds like it malfunctioned alot. But does look like he did it. Although no blood spatter on him at all, no cleaning supplies used to cover blood in the shower.. No evidence he got rid of clothes. Pretty weird. Robbery of their gym after.. But also him using light on his phone during the time he would be walking to his parents room in a dark hallway says alot.

They had a list of 71 errors but hey, why would that matter 🙄 The brother was diagnosed schizophrenic and made a statement he was there. But let’s toss that out too. Probably because there was no man running from the house. AJ had failing grades in school, test fires a gun he took from his father's room, sending a bullet through his ceiling. So sad that both A. J. Armstrong's parents had to be slaughtered by their own flesh and blood son. He was pure evil at that moment. He was conscious during the violent act. A J attempted to cover his tracks, and he employed defense attorneys to prove his innocence. The guilty verdict he received this week must have reverberated in his ears. Hopefully, A J will one day ask the Lord to forgive him for this evil act.

A.J. was sentenced in 2023 to a life sentence in prison with the possiblity of parole after 40 years. Such a sad situation for all involved. His baby will be 40 plus yrs old if A.J. gets out of jail.

I disagree with the statement almost never. Maybe more often than not. I've just seen quite a few crimes where the victim is unknown to the perpetrator and they cover them anyway.
I believe it's definitely a way to distance themselves from the crime even in those who don't know their victims prior to the crime.

The door being alarmed doesn't prove he killed his parents. There's no time discrepancy between the death of the parents and the call to the police. There wasn't any evidence linking him to the murder of them. Nothing. And you said yourself he was in the house so Where's the proof he did it? You have nothing at all. Exactly! My brother was given everything on a silver platter because he was the 'boy', and I had to work for everything I had. When it came time and my parents were deteriorating quickly, I cared for them, completely by myself. My golden boy brother had abandoned them years before. It killed them inside, but at least my mother handled it better than my father. They were immigrants from the 'old' country, who could not fathom that a son could do this to his own family.
I remember this case from a few years ago. Shortly after the murders people who went to school with AJ and knew him, took to social media and stated how ARROGANT and DETACHED he was after the murders of his parents.. They said he was not a likeable person at all. Many repeatedly described how cold and un bothered he seemed. They said he was spoiled and angry at his parents for taking his car and scolding him about his behaviors. I believe he may have been restricted or grounded a few times prior to the murders. They said then, that he was more angry at his mother for the consistent disciplinary actions she took which seemed to be only basic redirection, constantly talking to him and calling him out when he did something wrong which was often. AJ felt entitled because his parents had money. The word No did not apply to him in his mind. He did not want to work hard for anything. He wanted it given to him.

The defense ignored it. That is how hard it was to explain it away. AJ should actually get the job of the prosecutor. I was expecting to hear more about the bullet hole in the floor caused by a gun he had not touched since he was 8 years old, and yet the bullet hole is only about a week ago. The fact that the residue from the sheetrock was still on the floor. Or a deep dive into how he managed to clean powder residue off of himself without leaving a trace, yet no cleaners or blood is found on his body or clothing. You cannot convict a person with lousy prosecution.
Not only that, if he gets away with this, he will do it again. That's why now I feel it's important that people should not be able to get life insurance on anyone without there consent and it should be mandatory that it's done in person and sworn in by higher authorities. I also feel that the insurance companies should pay out any policy until 18 months after death to may sure there is no foul play involved. People's love for money can be the root of all evil.

I think he wanted to be free of his parents rules and get an inheritance so he and his girlfriend could do what they want. Parents look like good parents and held him accountable. Maybe they added a bit too much pressure on him but I can see why. They were trying to turn out ultra responsible and safe kids. They believe in discipline but this kid just wasn't having it. I think his status in the community and at school went to his head and he didn't want them telling him what to do anymore.

He practiced on pillows before that and the gas and burning area at stairs. What person comes into a house and sneaks in the parents' room, steals a gun out of the drawer & would have to know where gun is kept and kills them. Why wouldn't they kill AJ & his sister. A burgular would bring their own gun. Nothing was taken. AJ is guilty IMO from this video.
