I actually end up mixing my polishes when the bottle gets down so low that the brush doesn't get fully covered ^_^ end up with awesome new colors.
Oh! Keli I have a question...any reason why you don't use gel polish? I have both and have NO intention of ever getting rid of either of them lol I have such pretty colors in both

Yep gel is great for those of us using our hands a lot or is hard on them. Downside is def the removal, annoying lol

When my addiction to nail polish began, and couldn't afford to buy every polish I wanted, I started mixing polishes to expand my collection. Not all polishes look as good on my nails as they do in the bottle so nixing with others is a way I found to not waste money and polish. I still mix colors to match clothes and mood. You should try mixing the OPI Pineapple color you hate so much and see what new discoveries are born.
I think that’s actually an awesome way to save money! Another trick I did was use cheap acrylic paints for nail art details :)
Do you use nail polish thinner (non-acetone) to make sure you use all the paint in the polish?
rurusiddi I have only ran out of one nail polishes and it was OPI Big Apple Red, I added white to the OPI bottle to make a pink for gradients. I also added top coat to the almost empty bottle to make a really light/thin color to sandwich glitter polishes. I find thinner changes the formula too much and they tend to chip easier.

I mixed a dark blue and a """"silver chrome""""" polish and it made the most beautiful dark blue with silver shimmer, also I've worked in the paint department at home depot for 2 years now lol

That was very satisfying to watch. I once mixed nail polishes to do a very specific nail art and I didn't have the base colour that was required. So I mixed a bunch of nail polishes to make that colour.

You have such a soothing voice and an enchanting personality! I'll be mixing some of my polish as soon as I can get the beads. Another fun video might be (if you haven't already done this) is to apply drugstore makeup start to finish using only the applicators that come with it. LOL Those tiny blush brushes, tiny sponge eye shadow applicators, etc.

I did this last week! I had so many almost empty bottles of my favorite nail polishes and I didn’t want to throw the little I had let away (like the stuff you can’t reach easily anymore) so I started mixing them with random polishes that I don’t use a lot. I got so many fantastic new colors!

I have been Frankenpolishing for several years now and just like with acrylic paint, the more opaque a polish the more pigment. Also always start light and mix to dark - you can always darken but it's next to impossible to lighten while maintaining the integrity of the colors or wasting. For example; with your orange mixture, it probably would have gone better if you had started with yellow (a brighter and more sheer/thin polish) and added drips of pink (a darker and slightly more opaque color) a couple at a time mixing in between until you decided you liked it. It also allows you to find a color without wasting too much at once, mix a small batch then up the ratio if you liked what you cane up with. I actually have formulas for polishes I mix myself that I base on counting drops so i can continue to mix certain color creations if I run out of the original I created. You really should be careful mixing across brands though, I have never seen an explosion or anything extreme but some times the chemicals in the formulas don't like to play nice exactly. I hope you had fun!

There is actually a good way to make your own nail polishes by simply getting a pound clear nail polish, a pigmented eye shadow (or nail powder) and pouring the whole bottle of clear nail polish and the powder in a little bit at a time into a container (best to make sure that you are able to pour the nail polish back into the bottle) and keep stirring and testing it until you get the colour you want 🙂
You know I want to do this now but I don’t have empty bottles so...Off to go ruin my collection! Wheee! 🌪

I’m glad you like the eye makeup cause I totally filmed a makeup video for it :P And it’s not that I’m not into Disney persay, I just didn’t watch them growing up so I don’t have that personal attachment haha! I don’t think a nail polish shaker is necessary unless you’re making polishes to sell :P
Oh my god those two Zoyas! 😍😍😍 I mixed Zoya Shelby (light pink creme) and Tallulah (medium-ish blue shimmer) and expected to get a purple but it ended up being periwinkle. It was kinda nice.

Btw, I just got 2 of your polishes and the galaxy stamping plate in the mail the other day. I'm wearing galaxy gang and my daughter is wearing deep space and we love them!
Just be careful with loose glitter if it was not intended to be mixed with polish because Kelli has said before that some polishes cause arts and crafts glitter to break down and it could ruin your polish. Just an FYI if you still want to try go for it I just wanted to drop a little word of caution in case

That pink and yellow swirl on the bottle was everything! Like a tie dye swirl. I wish there was a polish that could look like that on the nail.

ur prolly safe as long as u leave room for expansion in the bottle. sometimes the chemicals react by expanding and that is what cause them to break.
also i dont think of it as 'wasting' ur polish if u make a color that u love and will use often. its like buying an outfit that is a top and bottom together and u 'like' the outfit but if u put the top with this other bottom u will wear it more and love it if that makes sense.
okay...maybe i should clarify 'explosion'. it doesnt go BOOM like a firework, it builds up pressure so much that it will pressure crack at the weakest point in the glass bottle. usually around the neck.

Haha, the Disney character references crack me up 🤣 I love mixing blues, there are so many different hues and it can go any way... also, adding black or white to polish I don’t like usually fixes any polish. But then I love colors that look black but are really blue, purple or green. Fun video!

That last one with the silver was GORGEOUS! Safiya actually just did a fun video that you could do a fun take on potentially. She went to Sephora and bought every lip stick they sold, mixed them all together, put the franken-lipstick in tubes and gave it away/ sold them...I'm not sure which one it was...either way...franken-things have been a really fun trend lately! Loving it!!!

Couple of ideas for videos (sorry if you've done them, I haven't searched yet). A polish you bought just because of the name, polishes you'd recommend to a newbie who has no idea where to start, polishes that are nice but you don't think live up to the hype (original formula Pacific Blue and OPI's Teenage Dream for me - they are nice but not hype worthy) and also your "nail polish story" - when/why did you start, when did it become a focus, what would you like to see or accomplish nail polish wise etc. Whew, that's a lot. The end!

Be careful Kelli! Mixing your polishes to make new colors can be seriously addicting! Can’t say how many times I’ve done it but I’ve loved every single one of them. I took a red jelly polish and added a born pretty chrome powder to it (over black it reflects blue and pink I think) ............let’s just say that I have a very pretty red polish with a strong pink shimmer in it now! It’s so so beautiful! I loved the colors you made especially the green. ❤️❤️❤️

I watched your video and I got inspired and mixed 10 colours together. I made two beautiful purples one light dusty purple with a beautiful shimmer and a deep purple with a shimmer. This was so fun. Also Kelli i would totally watch more "random" videos like this. Anyone else ?

Hey Kelli, I tend to mix nail colors that I buy because I love the colors when I first see them. However, when I go to put them on, they do not turn out to be as pretty as I first thought.
I like mixing color shifting pearl whites or off whites to these and they end up looking amazing. Keep on mixing girl. They almost all turn out to be a serendipity!!

YEA!! I love making my own polish color creations. So much fun. Also because I have this whole obsession with my polish matching (and I mean matching in every way) whatever outfit I wearing, making my own polish colors is practically a necessity. The problem I come across, which you solved so easily by purchasing empty bottles to mix the colors in, is that if I forget to mark the bottle in some way to show that it is not the color that the bottle label says it is. And, let me tell you... It is maddening to go to the store with the brand, color name and color number expecting to find a certain color that I adore. Only to find out that, it is in fact not that color at all. Also, I feel like with the new empty bottles you can devise some way of labeling them to give the amounts/ratios of each color used and even come up with your own creative name for that color that you created. SO FUN! One thing I have come across on a few rare occasions is for some strange reason the two/three+ polishes do not combine at all and just makes a sludge snot like glob in the bottle. I don't know if it is due to some different chemical reaction where two different brands use different ingredients that do not mix with each other or what it is, other than a huge gloopy mess that is useless. For this reason I try to mix polishes of the same brand or manufacturer. Even if it is a different product line, as long as it is made by the same parent company, I have yet to have an problems with creating brightly colored snot. LoL I love how excited you get by color and how expressive you are about that color, How it makes you feel or what it reminds you of. It is infectious.(Sorry, I guess that may be a poor choice of wording given the events in the world today). As always thanks for all the effort (even with this video where you said you were just winging it. Because even winging it takes effort) that you put into the videos on your channel. Hope you have a exciting and colorful day.

And also for 9:26, you could totally do that with the dry marble technique. You could mix the nail polish on a nail art mat and create that marble effect, let it dry for several hours, then cut it out to fit your nails and glue it to the nails using wet nail polish underneath.

Great video! I love doing this! I pulled about 100 bottles of colors that I didn't really like or ones that were old and never used and just started playing with making new colors. I made a super glitter , it was so thick with glitter that I didn't think I could use it, so I filled the bottle up with black. Shook it up and, *shocker* , I had a galaxy in a bottle. I wear it all the time. Play days are just so fun! I like to do it with eye shadows sometimes, too, crushing them down and mixing new shadows. Sometimes some of the pigment even ends up in a clear polish base. Good, bad, whatever you come up with, it's all fun!

Yes! I've been mixing my reject nail polishes together, also! My favorite has been a mix of sparkly yellow, regular yellow, red, and a smidge of blue... it's now my favorite polish... I love it so much. I still have so many nail polishes in my "experiment pile," though. I do mini experiments before I permanently mix them. lol! You can still mix your coral one with other colors!

All these turned out so beautiful! I really love the Zoya mix of the red and the purple! Absolutely gorgeous! I have tried this before with all my nail polishes and it turned out to be a gorgeous dark purple. And now I want to mix some polishes again!

I had to stop at the beginning of this video because I was so focused on your eye makeup. Since I've learned a lot about gradient/ombre nails from your tutorials, I was like..., "that's probably how she did her eyeshadow" OVERLAPPING and putting the lighter part on first and then start blending. DUUUUUHHHH. LOL. Very pretty, plus you have on one of my favorite colors. Orange. I would love to see a gradient vid of yellow and orange. Back to the video I go. I stopped at 1:30

Such a fun video. During the current lockdown, I dived more into nail polish. I was before but got rid of everything. Now I am back in! Anyway, I didn’t realize how easy it is to find empty nail polish bottles. So I got some and started to mix my polishes. I like them all in the pre-mix phase. Reminds me of water marble, so... I pour some polishes out on "mixing mat" (is that what they're called?) and swirl them together with a toothpick or a small nail art brush, then apply to my nails. Voilà! Mixed polishes in the "pre-mix" phase. I like to experiment, too. Great video, Kelli! Thanks for the cool ideas.

I use to do this all the time! Especially when I had a few polishes that were almost used up 😁 As you saw, it works really great when you have a few polishes that you don't really like but don't want to toss or get rid of em.
